I'm fine as long as it's against potential West playoff teams tbh.

Clippers started slow last year as well so I'm not writing them off yet. But going from Norm Powell to Bradley Beal is a massive downgrade.

Atlanta is better without Trae. Winning percentage was better last year without him.

Atlata is deep enough and the east is bad enough that it'll take several players going down for them to miss the playoffs, it can happen but I wouldn't say it's likely. We should probably scout the 15-20 range the best.

I think their ceiling is #7 and the floor is #11...#9 is my official guess. Basically a similar pick as last year..

If you think the ceiling is #7 that means you think Atlanta can finish #7 pre-lottery, as they couldn't get to that slot otherwise. If that's the case, there's a real chance Spurs can pick top 4, as they did last year with an 8th seed pre-lottery. I'll happily take that range though, it's a lot better than I expect. My most optimistic projections involve Atlanta missing the playoffs through the play in, say with a 13th or 14th seed pre-lottery. But I hope I'm wrong and you're right.

Trae helps their offence at the surface only. Yes, he has a high AST% but it's because he has a high usage, his assist to usg ration is actually only 30th percentile in the league, which is pretty weak. The Hawks overall offensive rating is 113.4 (22nd in the league) and defensive rating is at 113.0 (8th in the league), with a net rating of +0.5 (rounding, 19th in the league).

With Trae, the orating jumps to 116.2 (would have ranked about 17th in the league) but the D rating spikes to 125.2 (29th in the league ahead of the Nets at 126.8, but trails #28 Pels at 122.8 by a pretty big margin), for a net rating of -9.0 (27th in the league).
Without Trae, while the O-rating drops slightly to 113.2 (stays at 22nd), the D Rating improved to 109.4 (2nd in the league) for a net rating of +3.8 (tied with 76ers at 10th in the league, so either 10th or 11th depends on rounding).

We all know Trae is bad on D, but there are many troubling factors with Trae.

With him on the court, the rebounding percentage of the hawks dropped to 41.5% vs. 49.5% with him off (should be at 50%), things like steals %, block % drop quite drastically as well (7.5 vs. 9.7 and 6.8 vs. 12.2). Even his bread and butter assists isn't really helping that much, because the assist rate only dropped from 69.3% with him on the floor vs. 68.4% with him off. He take care of the ball better (11.0 vs. 15.6) but a lot of the raw states is really just due to the increased pace (105.9 vs. 97.9). The team doesn't necessarily ran a better offence either as the overall eFG only improves to 53.9% vs. 53.5% with him off.

His defence absolutely kills the Hawks though, we already talked about the rebounds (just 100% - those numbers above), but the other team shot at an eFG% of 60% vs. 49.3% with him off the court. That is absolutely stunning. What I find amusing is that the other team's assist % decreased slightly to 60.7 from 63.7 with him on vs. off court, my hypothesis is that the other team is just isoing and attacking Trae but I have to really watch the film and dig deeper into the numbers.

The sample size is small, and he played against:
TOR, ORL, OKC (best in the league), CHI (on fire early on ), BRK (worst team).

He sat out against:
IND (horrible), ORL again, TOR again, LAL (Good team), LAC (bad so far).

so the competiion is comparable.

Good chance our pick gonna land in the 20s.Atl whooping sac rn..Terrible day today.

Hawks currently up 42 points on the Kings halfway through the 4th… They're so much better without Trae Young.

Trae should be on the trade block for ATL..All in all, I think they are marginally better without him..

Maybe the floor is higher because of the improved defense, but the ceiling is lower because they have no offensive engine and long term, that would rear its ugly head.

Atl looks like are figuring it out and putting it togther. Not good for us.

That pick swap might not convey after all. Fucking Quin Snyder tbh.

ATL might be especially scary if one of these scenarios where Trae goes out and some good talent heads to ATL. I have no clue what their needs really are though, I try to limit my viewing of the Hawks to two games per year

atlanta did an amazing job in the offseason, no two ways about it. we're cooked.

It's kinda crazy that 4 of the top 10 shot blockers in the NBA right now are French: Wemby, Sarr, Gobert, and Diabaté.

The great irony this year is that Trae getting hurt is bad for San Antonio fans looking at the pick swap.
