I had them winning 46 games pre-season (WITH Trae Young and expecting Risacher to improve). The season has *not* gone the way I predicted, but weirdly with this recent surge they're gonna wind up winning about the same amount of games as I predicted, for completely different reasons.

This whole year has been bizarre. I look at that Suns roster and I just don't understand how they won so many games (they definitely need Brooks there tho.) Same with Celts. And the Hornets rise has been wild.

Respect to the Hawks, I guess. I suppose we can't be *too* greedy after picking 1,4,2 in successive years. And yeah maybe we'll find a good player with a middlin' pick. Stranger things have happened.

I'm with you- earlier in the thread I was on the fence as to whether the pick would convey. I was putting Atlanta and the Spurs around 45-48 games. With Atlanta getting a bit of an edge in a weaker conference. It looks like the Spurs will end up picking around what I initially thought.
 
feels like months since the Hawks have played a legit top 10 team in the league. They finally do so against the Rockets next.

Yeah, me too. Obvious target in free agency, problem is Spurs targeted Kornet with most of their MLE and would have had to arrange for a S&T but they couldn't absorb him into a trade exception like Atlanta did, which might have been a deal breaker for Minnesota.

Wanted NAW for free agency, but as a replacement for Vassell, while having Sochan and Keldon man the PF spot. Obviously, Sochan didn't work out, and Vassell stepped up and filled the role admirably, so I am not mad.

The one I wanted to keep was Micah Potter though, was very happy when we signed him to our training camp, not sure why he was cut.

Darn, both of you guys had great thoughts on moves to make. Would have been good if all those things played out.

Cutting Potter was a real head scratcher when Bismack hadn't really earned anything over him. Potter looked good to me. He moved well and didn't seem soft at all. He was known as as decent shooter, so I don't see how you can hold it against him if he wasn't making shots in a small sample size. It doesn't mean he can't make shots under pressure. Maybe they thought if he can't make shots in the preseason, he can't make them in regular season games. I don't know.
The only thing I wasn't sure about was Devin, but I would have done that (replace him with NAW). I thought Jeremy was going to be a lot better, though. I did want to give Devin at least one more chance as well (one of the reasons was personal and not really Spurs related). My reasons were that I believe he shows up in big/bigger games and that he deserved a chance to be healthy, and if healthy, see if he can fit into a role.

The bad news is, some of those tough teams might start resting for the playoffs in those final regular season games (NY, Cleveland, etc). So we'll have to wait and see.
 
Also fuck the Heat for allowing Hawks to jump them up. @Robz4000 was right; they only have that fugazi 83-point record to play for this season . 3 straight Ls since that charade.
 
Not a hawks fan at all, but I do have to congratulate them on turning a mistake (Murray) into a positive. Most of us were thinking we could get a really good draft pick this year (maybe even a lottery pick) because they sucked at the time. But some smart guy in their organization saw the problem and did something about it. Now they're probably in the play-in /playoffs and our almost lottery pick will probably be just a top 20 pick.

That's Ok, I'll take a top 20 pick over our 28-30 pick any day. Swaps don't always work out but I guess we got lucky again, not to mention we have their pick next year as well - ha ha. The smart teams take advantage of the not so smart teams. Such is life in the NBA.
 
Atlanta so far getting rocked by a Houston team that's been struggling. In the third, in Houston.
 
If GS, Miami, and Filthy win today, Atlanta drops to 9.

Who is Filthy? Edit : Just looked at the standings and I assume you mean Philadelphia.
