Why is nobody talking about Amari Allen? He is definitely underrated and should rise to mid 1st round.
Posted about him a month ago (on page 12). Big fan of his game. Don't think he'll end up being the pick, but could be another potential Devin replacement if Mullins goes top-10 (I think he will).

Another guy who's shooting up draft boards right now is Amari Allen. 6'8 wing who oozes potential. NBA level athlete, great form on his jumper, already shoots the 3 at a good clip (37% on 4 3PTA per), and versatile defender who's averaging over 1 Blk & 1 Stl per game. No Ceilings has him going to the Spurs in their most recent Mock.

We could have taken Jaylon Williams or Jaylen Duren……. Rather than Sochan
The Spurs were never going to take Jaylen Williams.

First, he was too old -- the rebuilding Spurs over the past ten years or so only take very young players.

Second, the Spurs were going to build inside out with a bigger player and then start adding the smaller guys. (Fortunately, they got that generational big according to their philosophy the next year.)

Maybe in retrospect they should have taken Jaylen Williams, but it was never going to happen.

i'd say j-dub in particular is hindsight, but ST was very high on Duren before the draft
I would simply say that this was an easy draft to miss in. With Sochan re-homed, that makes 6 of the top 10 players no longer with their drafting teams. Six misses in the top ten, and they all happened after #4.

I was one of the posters who really wanted Duren in that 2022 draft but the was a pretty polarizing prospect at the time tbh. Most posters either badly wanted him or hated him.

ST was also very high on J-Dub and Tari Eason... but they were guys people were hoping we could draft at 20.
Not me! I was persistently wanting Jdub drafted high despite his age. Who was yelling about Kon last year? Me! When everyone was high on Zaccharie, who wasn’t? Me! But nobody feels comfortable with my draft takes because they go against consensus. It is what it is… vent over 🙂

Back on ST there was a lot of talk between Mark Williams and Jalen Duren. I agree that Jalen Williams wouldn't have been the pick. We were full of young guards already.

I have to switch out my Herb Jones comp for Swain to Andre Iguodala instead… he has more of a scoring/ offensive mindset than a defensive one. He probably has the best handles of anyone over 6’7” in this class…

I'm trying to think which players falling unexpectedly would cause a team to offer a nice trade-down package, since it seems like there are a lot of good value bets in the 20s. In recent years, it seems like teams trying to trade into the lottery are after guys with star initiator potential (Derik Queen, Rob Dillingham, Luka), rock solid two-way wings with elite tools and high level shooting (Mikal Bridges, Cedric Coward), or...Ousmane Dieng

With that in mind, unfortunately, it looks like the Spurs might be just out of reach to really take advantage of this

Boozer, Dybantsa, Peterson, Wilson would obviously get massive hauls if they were traded
Next, the freshman point guards are probably worth a haul to somebody because initiator star bets (even small initiators) can really drive the offensive success of a rebuilding team - Flemings, Wagler, Brown, Acuff
Nate Ament is like catnip to a lot of GMs with his size + skill intersection and would probably go for a lot of surplus value

And I think that's it - I don't think teams are going to be willing to give up a ton of excess capital to move up and draft guys like Steinbach, Mullins, Burries, JQ, or Haugh; a trade down from 11-14 if all of the above 9 are gone will probably get one ok first rounder at most. However, if one of the above 9 guys starts dropping into the Spurs range, Spurs might get some really nice trade offers to move down

I can't help but keep getting Rasheer Fleming vibes from Yaxel. Really good college player but bigger and older than who he's playing against.

Michigan looks pretty dominant right now. They were bigger and tougher than Purdue tonight.

We literally took two first round guards in that same draft

the NBA comparison for Amari Allen would be........Trey Murphy, wouldn't it?
TM was a better shooter in college and Allen the better allround player, but there are a lot of similarities, not just the physical profile.
what makes Allen so intriguing, is his position flexibility. can play 2,3 and 4. (maybe even point forward)

I will be curious to see Amari Allen measurements. He was measured during the 2024 summer and he was quite short (6'5.25" without shoes with a 6"'7.75" wingspan).

yes, that's interesting. eye test says he might be taller. not 6'8'' as listed, but closer to 6'7'' than to 6'5''. might have grown a bit in his last highschool year.
(no idea why college measurements are so often totally off)

Yep, but not a single perimeter shot in that video...
He did make one, it's just not in the video. Went 1/2 from 3 last night. He's been shooting it a lot better from 3 as of late though. 33% on the season but he's up to 38% from 3 in conference play now.
