NBA 2025-26 NBA Thread

Preseason on right now. Knicks vs 76ers in Abu Dhabi.

Wow did not know that. Basketball is officially back!

Spurs need to make the playoffs this season. Otherwise wemby will be known as a loser superstar.

Failure this season would be attributed to Mitch’s coaching and the FO’s unwillingness to address gaping holes this summer. I have a hard time picturing Vic getting blamed for anything when he’s going to be the best defender in the league and put up surreal counting stats.

Except shooting and wing depth. Basically half of the roster.

Its on wemby. People always make the coacing saff as scapegoat. Wemby need to step up his game and carry this team into the playoffs like what 3rd year Lebron(31PPG)did to cavs.

French sensation Victor Wembanyama’s second season for the San Antonio Spurs ended in disaster as he was ruled out after suffering from deep vein thrombosis or DVT in February 2025. As a result, the Spurs, seen by many to finally be a playoff-contending team, finished 13th in the West with a 34-48 record.
San Antonio have failed to reach the postseason since the 2018-19 campaign as fans bid farewell to Gregg Popovich to kickstart a new era under Mitch Johnson. And yet, all signs point to positive developments, the fruits of which we expect the Spurs to enjoy from the upcoming campaign.
San Antonio moved quickly in the offseason. They notably re-signed De’Aaron Fox and Bismack Biyombo while adding Rutgers superstar Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant via the No. 2 and 14 picks in the 2025 NBA draft.

Center Luke Kornet was signed in free agency to provide their generational big man some cover, leading to one of the most talented young cores in the NBA. On paper, the Spurs look well on their way to compete for the title in the coming years.

Yet, much will once again depend on Victor Wembanyama and whether he can deliver a healthy season after a seemingly stellar offseason that has included high-intensity training sessions and visits to China and Japan, where he practiced Chan meditation and Shaolin Kung Fu.
Wembanyama returned with a statline of 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.8 blocks per game last season while shooting at over 55% overall and over 35% from the three-point zone. The stats only confirm what the eye test reveals: he is a generational star with a remarkable two-way ceiling, and the only apparent challenge remains his health.

Wemby showed plenty of progress in his sophomore year before his season was cut short, and fans will be eager to see how quickly he can return to those levels post-rehabilitation. And if progress during the offseason and the Spurs’ recent moves are anything to go by, they are well-positioned to maximize Wemby’s impact and build towards their first postseason in years.

If he can remain available for the majority of the season, the 21-year-old will become the runaway favorite for this award. After all, he finished second in what was his rookie year and was not considered last campaign as he only played 46 regular season games.

I think you're right that the media intensity will go up as Wemby ages, but comparing the Western Conference in 2025 to the East in 2006 is like comparing fine dining with cold Burger King. Everyone knows we're in a different world of basketball talent. It doesn't mean Wemby deserves zero blame or credit for what happens this year, but it IS different.

Lebron carried that cavs team to 50-32 record. So any record below 50 wins is a failure for a 3rd year Wemby. Also wemby has a better supporting cast now comapre to 2006 lebron.

The game has changed so much since the days of LeBron. Back in the day due to the illegal rules, a single dominant player can simply carry a team to win after win in the regular season. Scouting is also less advanced so teams can just ride a player to 45+ wins despite a weak cast. See LeBron, Robinson, Barkley etc…. The playoffs though is a bit different as preparation is much better. So these teams inevitably crumble because those weaknesses are being exploited.

Nowadays the offense and defense if much different and a team has to be well constructed where all players have to be able to do a bit of everything, with one or two superstars leading that group. The spurs most definitely do not have a roster where every player can do a bit of everything, we are still a team of specialists who aren’t that special in what they specialize in yet.

Yeah you’re right but the nba today has inflated stats compared before just look at jokic averaging triple double and carrying nuggets into the playoffs by himself. If jokic can do it the wemby can do it too. Wemby definitely can do everything if the coaching staff let him.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Jokic is arguably the greatest offensive engine since Magic. He makes every type of teammates better.
In 21-22 Nuggets won 48 games with just Jokic and Gordon.
The rest of the supporting cast was Barton, Monte Morris, Jeff Green, Austin Rivers, Bones Hyland, PJ Dozier, Campazzo, Bryn Forbes and Nnaji.
All of them out of any serious rotation within 2 years and it's not like they were old except Green.
Arguably the greatest regular season carry job ever, that's a 10 win team without Jokic.

Thats what im saying. If jokic can carry a team wemby too. One man team can still make the playoffs in today’s NBA.

LeBron played the majority of his career in the weakass Eastern Conference and not in a Western Conference bloodbath. Which is why all those finals appearances are a total fluke.

Im talking about 05-06 season when a 3rd year lebron (31PPG) carried the cavs to a palyoff birth despite having a worst supporting cast comapred to a 3rd year wemby. Ther is no excuses for wemby not to make the playoffs this season.

Let’s just clam down a bit. Jokic is otherworldly in his offensive game set. If wemby can be as good a facilitator as jokic on offense and maintain his defense he’d be the goat no questions asked.

A big reason why Gordon shook the bust, or at least disappointment, label was because of jokic. Bruce brown, Braun, and porter Jr all owe their careers to jokic. He makes life easy for all his teammates.

Saying wemby should be able to do in year 3 what an all time great 7’ Larry bird can do after 3 MVPs is a bit insane.
