Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

If you look closely, you'll see that Pop actually started load management as far back as the 2004-2005 season with Duncan & Ginobili. 33 minutes for an in-prime 28 year old superstar/top 5 all-timer was pretty low minutes, ESPECIALLY for 2004.

Many superstars in those days played 40 minutes. Same with Manu. In his prime averaging 29 minutes. That Manu could've averaged 30 today with BOTH the green-light AND 35+ minutes. It worked fine then, BUT, THIS team ISN'T the 2005 Spurs.
Manu was a rookie in 2003, a bench player and wasnt a superstar. so 29 minutes s just about right for him.

Manu wasn't a superstar in 2005 only in numbers because of the limited minutes and lack of green-light. In my opinion he could've easily averaged 25+ that season, but that wasn't going to happen in Pop's system, ever.

I still don’t love his offensive shot diet lately. I get that teams are putting a ton of attention on him but it’s just wild that we can’t get him some easier looks at times. Feel like we hardly even run PnRs with him.

On nights like tonight it doesn’t really matter but we have a long way to go in terms of maximizing his skillset. Obviously some of it falls on him as well.

Again, where the heck is that Wemby-Fox PnR?!

I’m convinced that master tactician and hoops genius Mitch is lurking in the shadows, scheming away, poised to unveil his magnum opus: Fox-Wemby Pick n Roll (or maybe a crafty Pick n Pop) right on the grand stage of the NBA Finals.

I sometimes get the feeling that Wemby lacks the patience for being a solid screener. It looks like he wants to roll and get the ball before the screen has even been properly set.

Wemby is averaging 28.7 MPG, less than his rookie season. Good luck bumping that to 35 MPG come playoffs time and not have him huff and wheeze for a breath late in games.

Pretty safe to say all that work done on stamina and conditioning the past summer has been extensively rolled back. He hasn't logged 30 minutes of intensive basketball for two full months now. Not even post-Achilles dudes would be subjected to this insanity.

Blame spurs organization tbh

The league really wants wemby to win MVP or atleast he’s belong in the conversation. 24pts/11reb/2.9blk is not an MVP level stats in today’s league. But somehow he climed from 5th spot to 4th. Lmao.

Timmy won MVP in '03 averaging 23/13/3. His defensive impact and the success of the team were the primary contributing factors. If we end up winning 52+ games with Wemby averaging 24/11/3 as the unanimous DPOY, I don't see why he shouldn't easily be 1st team All-NBA (i.e. top 5 in the NBA).

In 2002-2003 season the scoring average was 95.1 ppg. While this season the teams overall scoring average is 116.1ppg. Thats a big difference interms of scoring. And in todays league there are more players averaging 25ppg and up comapred in 2002-2003 season. It means wemby’s 24/11/3 is very low in todays league average.

In 02-03 season Timmy’s 23ppg ranked 7th in scoring. Wemby’s 23.9ppg ranks 19th this season.

They are ghost screens and flare screens. Victor is as thick as a little rat from the Paris Opera; if he sets a screen, you just go around a bamboo stick. Any opposing ninja can easily get around his butt.

He's also the player on the team with the most offensive possessions. His screens aren't used to set up a teammate, but to set himself up. Some teams even abandon the pick and roll play (Miami and Memphis, from what I understand).

You don't ask your franchise player to take out the trash. “Lois, I'm taking out the trash!” “Sure, Clark.” “(Transforms into Superman).”

I didn't watch much of the footage of the U19 FIBA game between Chet and Wemby.

But that 4:55 mins to 6:05 mins mark....I think is the first time I see such an upset and frustrated Wemby
