Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

wemby has problems with conditioning but also overeffort. He needs to understand that he may not be needed to win the game but will always need to do the basics. giving him off the bench 20m spurts might part of a training to have him learn to react to the game better, learn how his teammates play, how the game is being called, etc.

hero ball for guards is a bad habit. hero ball for wemby leads to him being injured , fouls, turnovers, and screwing with the teams chemistry.

On the fuller side of the cup - Wemby played 26 minutes last night on the first night of a B2B, more than he's been playing, and despite being tired at points, he still had enough legs under him to hit 2 clutch shots and ice the game. So not too bad.

Still half a season between today and the playoffs for him to play 30-35mpg. Hopefully no more injuries, he's way too valuable to be kept from the court.

I hope that he is getting all the cardio he needs during practice to improve his stamina and not relying on games to build it.
1. It’s not the same.
2. It’s the middle of the season. There’s no time to do adequate conditioning work outside of game time.

It’s just absurd to think that Wemby can improve his conditioning under these circumstances without playing him more.

You can't compare the two. It doesn't matter how much cardio you do off games, you can't replicate the stress you feel during games. That's why you need to work on it during games.

I don't know if Tim Grover pushed his players too hard (Jordan, D-Wade etc. as they ended up with knee injuries), but I agree with his school of thought. He said you can't push through fatigue if you don't learn to push through it in games. You have to get fatigued and learn to play through it.

There also needs to be a distinction between being actually tired and just having a shortage of breath during a specific moment of the game. I feel like Wemby suffers more from the later than the former because of how much he tries to do in some spurts of the game. As a former semi-pro soccer player, I used to get out of breath many times during a game after a big effort but would always recover.

It is not that hard to understand. The only way to build stamina and not be gassed is to play a certain amount of minutes consistently. If you are used to play 20 minutes, you are going to be gassed if you play 25; if you are used to play 30, you are going to be gassed at 35; and so on.

The minutes restriction thing is really getting old. At some point they gotta start playing Wemby big minutes. You can't get him used to playing 28 minutes during the regular season and suddenly expect him to play 35 in the playoffs. That's not how bodies work.
LaMarcus Aldridge actually said that that's why we lost the OKC series in 2016. Cause we were cruising through the regular season resting everybody, so that nobody was used to playing heavy minutes when they had to play a hard fought playoff series.

shooting the ball while your legs are tired is a whole nother workout. Like you literally gotta shoot different cause you don't get as much lift and your shots are short.

Was Wemby added to the injury report today so they can sit him on Tuesday (nationally televised) without a fine if they choose? I wonder if the Spurs punt on Tuesday so OKC can't have a legit get back game.

+17 in 1 point loss..Seriously fuck minutes restriction and those pedantic clowns upstairs still mandating it a month into his return..

Wemby was nearly Zaza-ed and none of that minutes regimen bullshit would have mattered because luck is bigger factor in all of this..
When someone argues in favor of these so-called voodoo doctors and their edicts, they clearly lack a basic understanding of actuarial concepts that anyone who's bought car insurance should grasp. You can't gamify risk or control real-world catastrophe, AKA Shit happens, no matter what. Minutes restrictions? Please! You can’t guarantee playoff health just by skipping a set number of regular season games. These are the same kinds of people who tell others in discussions to “quit it.”

Aaron Gordon wasn't supposed to play 31 min.
David Adelman: "Giannis has been on a minutes restriction too. They obviously went away from that. So I followed suit. Doc is gonna be in the Hall of Fame someday, so I figured, if he can break the minute restriction rules, I can too.”

Hah, I always suspected that you are actually Messi!

Zaza kinda of stuff can always happen but less min less probable. As for min restrictions, I think we passed the point of just being for the minor injury stuff recovery this season. It is a possibility Spurs are going full below 30 mn kinda of treatment for Victor for years to come and will push that min for real special occasions like POs decisive game. Spurs are showing clearly that they are playing the long game here... they want Victor to be the franchise player for the next 15 years, they are committed to do everything to preserve him for that long run. If it is the case I get it but this may cost us short term a PO serie or 2 and hopefully not a ring, more importantly they will have to manage Victor ego on that side and don't risk to frustrate him.

Thats BS. You dont play your franchise player below 30mimutes per game in his younger and prime years. Lets not act as if victor is 35 years old.

It may be BS but I believe it is possible that Victor will be in restricted min and games for the long term. As it seems other franchises are starting to do the same with their star players, Giannis for instance is playing 29 mpg vs. 35 mpg in average previous years.

The league has implemented measures to "force" franchises play their stars (65 games rules), the answer to that is apparently coming with ok we will play the guys and reduce the rest games but they will play less minutes.

To sit a player on a nat tv game, he must have been on the previous games injury report. That being said, any attempt to balk his continued BTA on Chet would not go well, especially since he has only four more ‘misses’ allowed to get post season awards.

It's almost too obvious to say, but Wemby went up against the 4x DPOY yesterday, and looked like he was handily a level above Gobert - on both ends.

Pretty fucking crazy.
Gobert is like old school Camby, pretty much a one trick pony. He blocks shots, very effectively mind you, but that’s pretty much it.

Gobert went from dominating USA in the international competitions to unplayable during their Paris Olympics 2024 tournament run
