Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Wemby has been finding a new gear in crunch time. His will is palpable on both ends of the floor. Love to see him raise his game. He's maturing at an elite rate right now. He's playing his ass off. Just want to make sure we are aware of the legendary greatness that we've been clamoring for is emerging right here, right now.

I said this is the game thread but it's no secret that the time when Wemby was taking control over the game and was most dominate was when he was playing like a big man, it even got green quickly into foul trouble during that brief stretch

That block on Jimmy was absolutely insane.

Yeah, that block really was incredible. I was amazed he got to it. It's too bad they didn't finish off on the offensive side of the ball. He should have gotten the ball too after that block as he usually makes a big play on offense after getting one of those soul crushing blocks.

I’m good with Fox taking it. He’s pretty clutch, even winning the nba award for it once.

No, that was an awful 2pt 20 footer fading away with a guy on his face. If you are gonna play the Enrique role, at least get to your spot and take a good shot.

Ideally, though, give the damn ball to the franchise player that was coming off making a huge play on the other side of the ball.

These are the details that separate winners from losers, tbh. Hopefully the team stays away from losing habits.

And let's not ignore the context that should matter in taking the decision of who gets the last shot, Fox just had a succession of dumb plays and kept showing it wasn't his day.

On the other end you have Wemby who not only was getting better as the game went on but could've at worst drawn a foul.

It's inexcusable to me and it's worrisome for the future bc it shows that Mitch doesn't have the balls to take the obvious decision. Every neutral fans and observers are just stunned by Mitch's dumb coaching.

How is Mitch going to manage Fox who has 10x more exp than him?

Wemby is low key bad at clock management in end of quarter situations. A couple times I have seen him take a shot with 4 or more seconds left on the clock, leaving time for the opponent to get a shot of their own. He needs to be shooting late enough that the buzzer goes off when or before the ball gets to the rim. It's not like anyone can truly bother his shot anyway.

I mean can we blame them? Just sucks that Steph is also injured. All of our 3 youngins smh
Yep, the nightmare sight of Lillard, Halliburton and Tatum clutching their Achilles in pain should be in everyone's mind.. I trust our medical staff; there is zero chance they clear Wemby to play on Tuesday or beyond unless he is fully past the tightness..I am sure teams are now exchanging info and tips regarding this particular case of calf injuries fastly aggravating into Achilles rupture. Even Adam Silver said they are concentrating medical research on this recurring issue.

Excellent analysis by Legs. He’s really become one of the better analysts out there
This is still the issue with Wemby. His decision-making is slow and still too deficient. While his height allows him to organize other defenders like a control tower on defense, on offense he is forced to lower his field of vision by tucking his head into his shoulders in anticipation of a bully game on penetration. He also has to lower his center of gravity to avoid having the ball stolen, and he cannot take advantage of his height in the same way in attack to see the game. His height is an advantage on offense… unless his head is looking at the ground, and he takes too long to pass or shoot.

This applies to his dribbling in transition as well as when he receives the ball while stationary in the middle zone. It then looks like he isn't “reading” the defense, but calculating for hours like in chess, when he should be “blitzing” by knowing exactly what to do before receiving the ball and playing immediately. He has reduced his turnovers by stopping bringing the ball up from the defensive zone if someone is on him, he should do the same in the offensive zone if he sees at least two players on the way to the basket. Like any guard, he can of course force a drive on a set play, but he will do so with less success. One time in ten, he'll pass, and it'll be a highlight, the rest of the time he'll lose the ball. Other players can break through the lines with their speed or power, but you never break through the lines better than after passing the ball…

He could try to play like Giannis against porous defenses. But until he has Giannis' power, he has to make do with his body and play like Durant when he's on the perimeter. All this isolation play for Wemby, I'm not sure that's Spurs basketball. Everyone has to play to their strengths in order to create situations with high success rates. If the path to the basket is clear, he can drive, otherwise the ball must keep moving; if Castle is in a three-point shooting position at the start of possession, he shouldn't shoot. They're no time to experiment anymore. They can win with their current strengths. They will have plenty of time to improve in other areas.

So, I wonder if, on a Spurs shot, and if Victor is far from the basket, whether it wouldn't be better for the team to let him come back first on defense while the other four players go for the offensive rebound. He's so scary on defense that he can protect the basket on the counterattack. Maybe that's part of what they're doing. But instead of just seeing Keldon grabbing offensive rebounds, it can't hurt to see other players present on the offensive rebound. Keldon grabs 2.4 offensive rebounds per game; Castle, 1.5. With Wemby, they are the only three Spurs players in the league's top 100.

It was nice while it lasted.
He'll never be able to stay healthy.

Biyombo - "It's My Time to Shine".

We still have Korndog and KO.

Not sure if Korndog is able to handle the extended min since his days at Boston is only average less than 20mins.

Hopefully the extended mins to the healthy players will not lead to more injuries and a domino effect
