Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Another, older protocol developed at UMichigan for quick, in-game assessments of players: "the hockey stick drop test".

Somewhere, it or a Gemini summary makes the point that concussed athletes' reflex responses are about 15% slower than their baseline. That delayed response time, along with balance problems, and cognitive processing slowdowns are where the dangers lie for an athlete in returning to play.

I don't really understand how a multi-billion dollar company like the NBA doesn't have easily well established practices for being able to determine neurological baselines and quickly determine if someone is okay.

I don’t know if we have any objective proof their protocols didn’t work in this instance. We have Wembys pov but he’s far from an impartial observer tbh.

That turnaround two-handed block on Williams was something else. It's practically 6 on 5 on every defensive possession when Victor is locked in like he was in the second half last night.

absolutely hilarious play by wemby. i did not catch this live
Amazing. I guess this is legal? If Castle wasn't expecting that he was likely very confused at why it was happening. This looks like the kind of thing Victor thought up on the fly, though maybe they really did talk about it or even practiced it.

My thought as well, Spurs FO doing the old "Hold me back" routine.

I'm not a deep thinker on the topic of concussions, but if you are visibly knocked out on the court, an automatic call to sit at least one game seems reasonable. Literally dealing with a guy who respresents $biliionS to several involved parties, so erring on side of caution to is the correct call tbh.
I guess I'm now glad that did it, but it seems Victor had the same thoughts as me to play game 3 (I would have tried to play if I was a player in a similar situation - that is, as long as I wasn't dizzy, had balance issues or feeling other ill effects). Great to see he's that type of competitor. It's great that he's got people looking out for him instead of pushing him to play - this is huge thing as other organizations/teams might try and encourage their star player to push through things and play.

I believe Victor is fine with whatever decision if it makes sense. Between the lines I understand that Victor trusts Spurs medical staff but not NBA representant who must have been incompetent. He does not like being told to do something without an explanation, with Victor there is no yes sir. You convince him to do this or that explaining the reasons behind. It is btw very French, if you are a boss and tell your staff to change a process you better be ready to have compelling arguments to do so or they won't do it and if you use authority to enforce it they will find a way to fuck you up.
I kind of like that, especially the last part. I also like/want explanations too. Don't like being told something and no reasons given or explanation given to why it's better, or why to do it. If I have a better suggestion, I throw that in there too before doing it the other way.

Mitch took a small Jab towards the end of presser towards Wemby.

Play like 2nd half and thats the expectation and dont freelance like 1st half.
Post game interview? I haven't watched it yet. I'll have to watch it if so.

Oh no! Wemby’s injury wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been and he’s gonna be fine!

F haberstrough for trying to clickbait this story
Not to mention Wemby's hit was mostly absorbed by his jaw and not the part of the human head where the various brain lobes exist. Although there is multi-steps CTE protocols, i think doctors can instantly determine the exact severity of any concussion right from the get-go. there is surely going to be different recovery timelines for someone who gets up 10-15 secs later and runs back to locker room like Wemby and someone who gets carted off the court 5-10 mins later.
