Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

2 things:
1) I think many of you assuming the Spurs will win this series w/o Wemby are in for a rude awakening.
2) Those wishing Sochan was on the team still...really? The Blazers barely broke 100 pts last night. He would have made the offense even worse to watch!
Spurs are still favorites to win without Wemby at this point. It’s not an assumption or foregone conclusion (nothing is) but it’s a fair bet. We should be able to split the games in Portland at least and/or take the home game. Us losing 4 in a row without Wemby would be extremely unlikely and he should be at least back for game 6 and 7 god willing

does anybody here realize that the same thing happened to Wemby in game 1? He didn't get a concussion, but hurt his rib instead. He has to be smarter in these situations.

I mean what do people expect? For Wemby not to attempt spin moves. Pulling the chair isn't some new thing. He's faced this all year and its a freak injury. You have to have to lose your legs, and fall in a way that your arms can't break your fall. Wemby falls with a purpose to avoid injury, so the last thing I want him doing is being in his head about how he spins and how some rare bullshit might happen.

There's so much irrational reactionary responding going on in this thread. Yes, Wemby is just going to be more injury prone in some situations because of his body. But he's ALREADY taken steps to avoid that. He doesn't need some special scouting report on Holiday now and no we don't need to make pulling the chair illegal. This kid figures everything out. I just want him to get healthy and come back and be the same dominant player he's been all season.

The Spurs lost last night because they went scoreless for the final ~4 minutes of the game until they got some free throws. They don't need a strategy overhaul, they need playoff experience and the mental fortitude to hit some late game shots. There is one way to get that and that is simply to play the damn games. And at the end of those games, maybe some of these players fail. We'll see, but there's no strategy that is going to make up for playoff experience and having what it takes to be a reliable player in tough playoff situations.

I think the motivation is there now to win until Wemby comes back and the team is talented enough to do it. Fox needs to step up and the young guys need to adjust to the realities of playoff officiating. Because let's face it, that's one of the biggest differences between regular season and playoffs. Calls you get before you aren't getting now and calls that didn't go against you before now will. Especially if you're a young player without playoff clout with the officials yet. I had forgotten just how lopsided and wonky NBA playoffs officiating is.

They definitely should be able to get one game out in Portland. But it’s a scary situation. Momentum in these playoff series is a hell of a thing. When you lose it, it can be a hell of a thing getting it back. I really want them to get Friday’s game because Sunday is going to be a lot of pressure on them to avoid getting jammed into a huge hole.

Knowing Wemby he is campaigning hard just to be on that flight. Game 3 is almost assuredly not even a consideration for him but game 4 might be.

Whether he plays or not, Friday feels like a must win. Goddamn the playoffs are so stressful.
As weird as it sounds I'm not stressed out by the situation. I was very angry at the loss because I was frustrated about how unfair the injury was to Victor. I have made peace with what can happen in this series.

During the Duncan era I would get stressed out about these games because I felt it was the Spurs best chance to win a title and they wouldn't get any opportunities once Duncan retired. Now that they got 5 I guess I don't feel the stress anymore since I got to see them win 5 granted I would love to see number 6 and few more added but if it doesn't happen it's not the end of the world for me.
