His long term health is more important. The team should be able to steal one in Portland and tie the series giving Wemby more time to rest (6 more days). If not, then they just don't deserve to continue any further
 
Vic needs some simple, repeatable go to moves. He has incredible shooting touch and stroke, he needs to utilize it to play a safer brand of basketball. The way this is going with him ending up sprawled out on the floor 1 out of every 5 plays just isn't sustainable. SGA and Joker for example play such a controlled brand of basketball that minimizes their risk of injury but is still incredibly effective. I realize Victor goes all out on D in a way those guys don't, but it really seems like Victor's scariest moments are happening when he is on offense.

Less could end up being more with him, pacing himself better and understanding that taking less risks will let him play more minutes and have more availability. This really needs to be his next evolution.

This kind of concussion is very rare in the nba tbh... a lot of rugby players are using protection nowadays but the contacts head to head are permanent, same for NFL... in football Peter Cezch was one of the few or maybe the only one using it. I believe he had a bad experience hitting his head on the pole of the goal

most of it happens when he tries to get cute with his dribble. It's 2 dribbles max for him. He only needs 1 dribble to get from the 3-point line to the rim anyway. I wish I could find the video of the guy breaking down the Pistons game. Wemby had a total of 6 or 7 dribbles while scoring 38 points.

Just look at this highlight tape. Every basket is 0 to 2 dribbles.

The thing is, they did as well as could realistically be expected dealing with Clingan/Williams on the offensive glass/lobs and Avdija on drives/free throws and still lost.

It's going to be a colossal struggle to win a single game with 20ish minutes (more, if Kornet's in foul trouble) of non NBA caliber C play (have to dust off the corpse of Plumlee and maybe Olynyk for spot minutes) vs Clingan/Williams on the offensive glass/lobs and Avdija on drives/free throws, which is why not hanging on in game 2 was so massive.

Give the multi day break from 2 to 3 and the short turnaround from 3 to 4, they need to go all in to get 3. Do that and get Wembanyama back by 5, they should be fine. If neither happens, this series is over.
 
i'm glad some posters are bringing up Wemby's often wreckless drives to the basket and his frequent falls as a result of the former. i'm not sure if some of this comes from Wemby trying to avoid contact but he either needs to get stronger or be more prudent when he is charging full steam ahead.
 
From what I recall of a CTE study from a few years ago, the CTE buildup is the result of many minor concussions rather than one big one. I wouldn't be concerned for Victor on that front. Concussions in basketball are fairly rare.

If he gets another one in the near future it would be far more concerning.

spurs were going to have this problem throughout the playoffs. the FO did a poor job of building the depth of our bigs. byombo is an eloquent man and may even be a dipomat one day but he is no basketball player. neither is plumlee. the spurs fall off a cliff when they neither Wemby or Kornet are on the floor.

1) I think many of you assuming the Spurs will win this series w/o Wemby are in for a rude awakening.
2) Those wishing Sochan was on the team still...really? The Blazers barely broke 100 pts last night. He would have made the offense even worse to watch!

Wemby's 22, he doesn't have the bag of tricks someone like Jrue does after being in the league 17 years. But yeah he's gotta get used to going up against these kind of clever veterans.

Same observation from me as well. All his injuries are on O side when he is loosing balance to spin.

This is 100% dead on and a great post. I agree with everything you just said. I hope when he hits the age 23 season he’s made some adjustments to his game in this regard. Look at Giannis. He’ll be entering his age 32 season, but his overly physical style of play that had no finesse to it has completely broken down his body. And Victor certainly doesn’t do that all the time, but there is enough of the reckless plays sprinkled in that it’s getting him hurt. The more I rewatch that play last night I just can’t understand what he’s thinking? You have the finesse and the stroke to simply rise above that small defender and get any shot you want at any time. And Mitch and his coaching staff need to start freeing him up offensively. He can’t be going one on one all the time just trying to make it happen.
 
well, to be honest, i don't really understand why pulling the chair shouldn't be considered illegal. There are so many minor fouls being called in basketball today that I don’t see why this one— which is actually dangerous— shouldn’t be, especially when the move is as obvious and intentional as holliday's one.

that's absolutely true that often, Wemby's drives to the basket are not really under control but still, i find it as dangerous to pull the chair, even if more rare, than going too close to the landing spot of a shooter.

after all, illegally causing an opponent to lose balance and fall over is a foul. that's true that in the case of pulling the chair, there isn't necessarily a contact but still, it's the same kind of foul. it's kinda a bitch move....

Pulling the chair is to avoid contact, the defender didn’t cause the offensive player to loses balance, the offensive player lost balance because he expected the defender to be there and use his body as leverage yo execute a move.

What is the foul? Not doing what the guy you’re defending wants to you do?
