I've heard at least half a dozen other national media members saying this same thing. The talk about him taking the crown of the face of the league from Lebron is real. No one other than Wemby has shown their capable of filling Lebron's shoes for the next generation, on and off the court, other than Wemby.

As a Lebron hater, he was the perfect face of the league because of his PR training and never saying/doing anything wrong.
Wemby is the same, he always says all the right things and has zero controversy surrounding him.
Jokic and Doncic don't care enough about the media, SGA just isn't marketable with his play style and Edwards is at child support per season average.
Even if we're talking about basketball ability, noone other than Wemby has enough talent to get into that highest tier of all-time greats.

That'll be the dumbest shit ever. Wemby for 252/5 is a bargain, especially if you consider that the Celtics will pay Jaylen Brown 57/61/64. Shai extended for 273/4. Even Bam will earn more per year.

That's the supermax which Wemby obviously ain't eligible for yet, which makes his contract look amazing in comparison.

Any paycut offers must come after the first Max contract, imo. Give him the first $250M that changes his life forever, then when he's not only set for life but also much older and with a better grasp of how to win in the NBA, you can pitch him that "discount" idea.

Can't believe they didn't address the Supermax contract bullshit in the last CBA renewal.

Making the Supermax count the same as a normal Max towards the cap hold was easy as pie, a single clause amendment would've done it. Now it continues to punish small-market teams who draft their superstar and pay to keep them around, the opposite of what the NBA should want for its product.

Guess the players were too concerned with dropping the marijuana testing to care about anything else

I think we need to keep in mind that the caps, tax thresholds, aprons, etc. are just as much about saving the owners money as they are about competitiveness.

By allowing the supermax delta to not count towards the those things - it will just free up the owners to spend more... and they don't want that.

That's understandable, especially considering these changes require a large majority to be passed.

But what surprises me is that we haven't heard any push on it from the players themselves - which do stand to gain a lot from something like that. Difference between the Max and Supermax is "only" 5% of the cap iirc; but that's a lot of money for the bench players to get distributed towards. Same idea as the Play-In Tournament being a big incentive for the role-players than it is for the stars.

Just crazy that there seems to have been no consideration, no reports, nothing. But to your credit - the Second Apron stuff absolutely feels like a way to strap teams of the ability to spend "Warriors level money" on their teams. As always, follow the money...

Duncan also didnt take less than the max until fairly late into his career. he signed a then-max deal of 7 years 122 mil in 2003. was bid timing for him with CBAs. KG had signed for 6/126 back in 1997.

it was after that 7 year deal timmy started taking less. that deal began in 08/09 (the extension replaced the last year of the other deal as well), by which point timmy was past his prime already

After that health scare, I'm getting every last penny if I'm Wemby. No telling what happens in his career over the years, so you take all you can get each contract. Also reports state that the Spurs team value could have exceeded an extra billion dollars the moment he was drafted. It'll be an insult to ask him to take less.
