Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Wemboy is not for real and y’all are falling for it, tbh. The best thing to do is to ignore his schtick. He’s a few steps from being placed on ignore for me unless he turns it around like Carter Bryant.
I'm only dunking on him because I dislike the Ignore feature so much, tbh.

Thinking on it though, this forum doesn't work like Spurstalk did - it was so fucking annoying to have the comments from ignored users still appear on each thread, it made the feature unusable.... Asked Timvp if it could be fixed, never heard an answer - and now we know that he wasn't site owner anymore at that time, so it's whatever. Alas, may have to give it a go here.

Now that I’m fully awake that horry BS ticks me off even more. WTF is his problem, pussy ass lebron didn’t even play last night due to bruised labia

Horry gets a pass from me thanks to game 5 and the Nash hip check from hell.

He wanted a "thank you" contract from Pop at the end of his career but didn't realize he had already gotten it.

This snake--a certified Duncan hater-- is fast getting up there in the rank of the most dislikeable former Spurs..

it would be interesting to see who he puts in the top5. I would say that Jokic, Shay, Luka are better than Wemby, Edwards is having a great season. The fact that Wemby is playing 29 minutes is an issue to be in the conversation. Then, he is not in the same conversation as prime Kobe and Lebron, I don't think that there is a question here. If he starts playing 32-33 minutes with consistent numbers instead of his ups and downs, then no problem

This is about the MVP discussion and the Lakers are not good enough for Luka to be in that convo. I can see arguments for SGA and Jokic (obviously) over Vic and maybe even Cade and Jaylen Brown. But there is no way someone can seriously have the best player on the team with the 3rd best record in the league with no other all-star teammates who is also the DPOY favorite outside of the top 5 MVP discussion. Horry is just being an ass

Do we need to start a LeBron topic for you? You seem obsessed, man
I probably am I just can’t stand seeing LeBron and Wemby in the same breath. Need wemby to start ringing so brons “era” can be wiped from the collective unconscious

Man spurs played great when wemby was not playing and when he played off the bench.

Just because they had a nice stretch without him doesn't mean they're better without him or that he isn't their most impactful player. Does anyone think the Nuggets are better without Jokic because they had a good stretch while he was out?

I would agree if the two players were close statistically but Luka is putting crazy numbers and it's not like he has a better team than Wemby around him. The Lakers have the 9th record in the league, it's not like they are a lottery team either. Same thing with Edwards. For me the biggest problem for Wemby is his availability, he plays fewer minutes than others.

The Spurs’ 2023 NBA draft selection of Victor Wembanyama was brilliantly facilitated by drafting Josh Primo and Joe Wieskamp (who?) in the 2021 NBA draft followed by Jeremy Sochan, Malaki Branham, and Blake Wesley in the 2022 draft which ensured the Spurs would remain an absolutely awful team long enough to boost their odds of drafting Wemby. No wonder sportscasters so often praise the Spurs for their savvy selections! /S 🤣 🤷🏻‍♂️

But for sone reason spurs don’t play wemby a lot.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but LeBron and his many accomplishments as a basketball player will remain in the collective sports mind for a looooong time.

For all of the talk here about Wemby not progressing or being better than he was as a rookie or sophomore...

Points per 36: Up to 30.3 from 26.3 last year
TS%: Up to 62.4% from 59.4%
FTA per 36: Up to 9 from 4.5
Rebounds per 36: Up to 13.7 from 11.9 (TRB% up above 20 for first time in his career, also leading the league in DRB% at 33)
TOV%: Down from 13.7 last year to 11.8 this year while USG% is up from 30.4 to 32.2
PER: Up to 28 from 24.2 last year
BPM: Up to 8.9 from 6.5 last year

I'm not saying there has never been reason to gripe on Wemby's play this year, and I totally agree some more consistency is needed if we're going to throw him in with that upper echelon of guys in this league...but we really shouldn't take what he's given us thus far for granted. Averaging 30/14 per 36 on efficient shooting while being pretty easily the best defender in the league is absurd stuff. Add in the fact that he just turned 22 and has had to deal with some injuries/minutes restrictions on top of that :st-lol:

tl;dr: This guy is really good and I have no idea what he'll look like in another 2-3 years.

Right now he's third behind Jokic at 15.5 and SGA at 11.9.
Luka has 8.1.

Although I'm not sure how relevant BPM is because Jokic has higher DBPM than Wemby, which makes BPM invalid.
He definitely needs to be top3 on MVP ladder, noone other than Jokic and SGA has a case over him.

I'd even say he should win it if we catch OKC, which is unlikely.

For sure, none of them are perfect but the fact that pretty much any of these "all-encompassing" advanced metrics are better this year vs. in the past is probably a good sign.

I hadn't really been thinking about the MVP race tbh, but now that you bring it up I absolutely think he will have a case if he can stay healthy the rest of the way and the Spurs are battling for the top seed. The biggest knock on Wemby would be games missed + the whole minutes restriction crap...but Jokic has missed just as many games and Denver did great during his absence.

SGA definitely has the most "bulletproof" case and if OKC ends up being the #1 seed then it's hard to see him not winning it. But who knows, if Wemby goes nuclear post-ASB and SA at least makes it a legitimate race for the #1 seed then maybe the MVP race is closer than it seems now.

If SGA wins MVP it’ll just be the best player on west #1 seed award, just how NFL MVP is QB du jour

OKC's strength of schedule is quite tough right? for the remaining games.

Not sure when SGA will be back. If we continue the momentum, we should have a chance to catch OKC

Man I must have blocked it out... but people were actually arguing Wemby hasn't progressed?

Do people even watch the games? skin20's inane posts don't count.
