Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Looks like Vic is playing similar to last season minus the 3pt chucking. He had 5 turnovers against the heat. It was a bad game from him
yep, not impressed either ... waiting for our PGs to join in

Just based on the condensed recap of the game against the Heat, someone might think that Ware is the hyped player, with Wemby being an afterthought. :p

you can watch the complete first half of the game and get the same impression ...

Ahh, people concerned about pre-season turnovers....... NBA basketball is back baby!!!!

Y'all would do well to mentally prepare for a "growing pains" transition period that lasts into the first 10-20 games of the season. Having a training camp and preseason without the main 3 lead guards on a team is very significant and will inevitably have an effect on team cohesion, execution, etc.

It really sucks as the Spurs seemed poised for a break-out season from the jump - but it's also not too concerning long-term given that all 3 players are out with small injuries. As long as the team can reach the Play-In with a middling record, it should be alright. Playoffs are 0-0 for every team, and Wemby is the perfect player to make use of that to his advantage.

On a separate note - I'm very surprised to see the Dream agreed to work out with Wemby, wasn't he allegedly refusing every non-Rockettes player after his stint with Dwight Howard/LeBron or something like that? I seem to remember some article saying he wouldn't do any workouts outside of his Houston ranch, and only for his own team's players.

In any case, the training looks fantastic and it's what most of us have been asking from Vic since day 1, simple moves closer to the basket. Seeing him already reduce his 3pt volume and setting the tone in the pre-season is great news - looks like he's "getting it" now....:st-hungry:

The Dream has also bills to pay tbh... :st-lol:

As for Victor, I'm not concerned by the TOs, he will clean that up eventhough with not a lof time during offseason to work with our PGs the first games will be hard to watch in that regard.
In those 2 games you can see Victor is testing what he called his new body and is trying to be more physical inside, he passed up a bunch of 3s that were wide open for him to put the ball on the floor and go inside (thus TOs) or to dish the ball for his teammates. Things will settle down obviously, I expect him to lower indeed his 3 pts attempts but not drastically. Spurs will need some 3 pts shooting anyway and as we know we don't have a lot of them in our roster. All in all message has been received by Victor, staff expects him to me more of a Dream than a Durant and this is what he is trying to do.

He is a clever young man, he will do what he believes to be necessary for the team to win. I think he may "sacrifice" a bit of his scoring stat with more focus on rebounds, assists and efficiency. That's the feeling I have watching his 2 first games.

the way Wemby has approached the 3 point shooting in the two PS games is not productive either ... I hope he finds a nice middleground to how many 3 point shots he took last season to what he is shooting right now

Agree. 9+ attempts is a bit egregious but he should be taking at least 5 or so a game

Don’t worry, Wemby will soon be in a lineup with even less three point shooting. He’ll have to start chucking eventually

Indeed that's my point, Spurs will need him to shoot 3s anyway. I think in the first games he will limit his attempts but at one point we will back with high volume but below last year, I'd say 7/8 ish

Love seeing Wemby using the preseason to test things out. Appears that he is looking to move more towards Jokic type of game where h can attract much of the defensive attention and kick passes to open teammates and those on the cut.

With his height (he can see over 7 footers like 7 footers can see over SGs), vision, and reaction speed, Wemby should be at least a very good offensive central hub, it’s up to the coaches to design a system around that and hold the players accountable in executing the game plan properly.

In terms of shooting, if he’s not shooting them nobody can.

You can’t really go make this argument in mixed company on the internet but it seems like every time Wemby gets postered there are mitigating factors

1) Jackson Davis with the offensive foul pushing Wemby’s are down

2) Ja dunking after the whistle where his effort level was 100 and Wemby’s was 50

3) Wemby going for the quick swat and missing the timing on jaquez because he hasn’t played in 8 months

Homer goggles and whatnot but still…

The most interesting Spurs team since 2014, in my humble opinion only, hehehe

Wemby should be the one to take the technical freethrow everytime he's on the court.

Nitpick: Wemby needs a better default dunk. The meh 2-hander with the rim hang/crotch thrust is kid stuff. Anyone can do that.

He can tomahawk it with such ease and crazy power. He can’t be compromising his career sizzle reel with stuff like the Jackson drive last night. Jam it home with more authority, man.
