Player The Uncertainty Realm of the Improved Jumpshot of Jeremy Sochan

Bismack can do all of those things as an assistant coach. There is no reason for him to have a roster spot.

Everything else you wrote about Sochan is quite irrelevant to whether or not Biyombo is a charity case.

Edit: yes, Bismack is the 14th/15th man on the roster... so what does it matter? It matters because he can and should be replaced by someone who can at least do a 25% competent job of playing C when called upon. Micah Potter was on the roster and would be a better choice. Precious Achuiwa was sitting on his couch, and is now playing half decent center minutes for SAC. Bassey has been available all year and yeah he's not great, but we all know he can do better than what Biyombo is giving us. It angers me that we're one Luke twisted ankle away from extended Harrison Barnes center minutes.
Also, I do want to point out... we're doing great and I'm not all that bent out of shape about this... but this is quite literally my biggest complaint about the roster. I can squint really hard and make a case for Kelly and JMac (though it's getting more and more difficult with Kelly). Lindy Waters gets a pass from me... I totally see it with him. But I cannot for the life of me think of any real justification for Bismack other than his brother is an exiled Congolese Prince who has promised Mitch a share of a $1B bounty if Bismack can make it an entire NBA season and the government of Congo has agreed to return Frankie Biyombo to the royal court.

I think he’s the only French speaking in the team, idk.

Never got the notion that the whopping 19 game PG experiment from two seasons ago was somehow to blame for his lack of development over 3.5+ seasons.

To be playable, he needs to be paired with a rotational stretch five who is a role player. Basically, a prime Olynyk.

The Suns don't have a such a player. He could work with Towns in spots, but similar to Wembanyama, a team generally isn't going to have a superstar or star spacing the floor for a one-way role player.
Same I never understood why many here are so hung up on this detail as if it were a career altering event on the scale of a catastrophic injury befalling him early on :st-lol: . Some are expressing astonishment that he was the first one to go before Vassell and Keldon; here is the simple reason why: Vassell and Johnson have actual basketball skills (like shooting and dribbling the ball) and he doesn't. And i don't know if you see it the same way: beneath the bravados and fake tough acts, Sochan appears to be a mentally fragile guy who has found it hard to cope with the vagaries of NBA life. He hasn't responded well to the challenge of proving himself when the time has come (new contract) as he watched his teammates and the organization pass him by. I am extremely skeptical about his future prospects as NBA player, but we'll see

He would clearly benefit massively from getting schooled by donut

We should remember that he was the one who welcomed Victor and served as his point guard in order to fulfill his dream of winning right away. (Yes, Victor, in fact, you need a good point guard, so we need high draft picks. Here, we think we're going to play Sochan PG.)

Now, I hope they release him mid-season because they think he'll have better opportunities than this summer. There are always plenty of rebuilding teams that like to pick up the scraps from the Spurs, whether it's for staff or players.

Otherwise, they should come back to Europe.

They wouldn't have played anymore. Veterans are there to serve as veterans: to fill out the roster while accepting that they won't play. Sochan is still young, he absolutely has to play. So he has to leave. It's a good thing for him that he was cut.

I can’t find the references on the spot, but lots of players and writers have said, there is a big difference when a player yells at you compared to an assistant.

There seems to be a role for that old grizzly vet.

🤷‍♂️

A shame that eventually we get nothing in return for Sochan....

If he signs with Suns and we meet them in the 1st round....They might use Sochan and Dilon Brook double team on Wemby

To go from the guy that was at the draft welcoming Wemby with open arms to being waived in his 4th year is insane. Back then, you would think he was gonna be a lifetime Spur.

Just clear he wasn’t very good and part of that blame falls on the coaching staff pre Mitch days. Jeremy had no chance to grow on a tanking team.
Jeremy had EVERY opportunity to grow. He just didn’t take advantage of any of it. That narrative needs to stop. The dude does nothing useful on offense other than the dunker position and with our current roster we don’t need that type of player at all.

I wish the guy luck on his next team. But he’s not a valuable piece on contender. Hopefully he can figure it out and stay in the league but I’m getting Lonnie Walker vibes from this guy

It’s not like he didn’t take advantage of his opportunities. He did what he was told without complaints, tried the one-handed FT and become the subject of every game commentators, played PG, Center and everything in between. It’s not the lack of effort. At times he seemed lost out there maybe overthinking what the coaches want him to do. At one point he just needs to stop and start playing basketball. The G-League should’ve given him a lot of opportunities to just hoop, instead of getting stuck in the bench if he’s not even to get used.

Should have just done it at the end of the trade deadline instead of dragging it out. Mitch wasn't giving him any minutes even in blowouts. Not sure why they insisted on trying to keep him the rest of the season.

Spurs just couldn't find the minutes for Sochan anymore. The Spurs are trying to win games now.

Sochan was lucky he was on the tanking teams and was getting starters minutes right out of the gate in the NBA, unfortunately for him he didn't develop his game with those opportunities.

Sucks but if the team has no intentions of playing him/role of any type - no point in having him on the roster.

You know who does have fully developed game right now? Kon Knueppel.

Sochan, defensive mobile big = CB
Primo, big defensive guard = Castle
Branham, shooter, spacer = Champ
Wesley, defensive PG = Harper

Spurs have those prototypes Spurs players. Just those 4 didn’t make it, likewise Samanic, Lonnie all fit that type. It’s not surprising they won’t draft a Queen for his lack of defensive motor, or a Jalen for questionable “character”, etc.
Sochan and bryant play different position. Sochan is a pf while bryant is an sf.

Fare thee well Jeremy Sochan and I hope you can stick in the league another season or two.

My instinct tells me he is just not really a hooper of the intensity that Wemby, Castle, Harper, Vassell, Champ, CB, Fox and Kornet are. These are gym rat types, I know that dna and can see the camaraderie they have developed as hoop heads.Sochan is a different type of player. Great athlete, not a skilled basketball player and not growing with the light speed development of the team. Someone mentioned that they hope Sochan doesn’t share Spurs secrets with another team. I don’t think he knows the Spurs offense or defense. If he did, he might have made an impact.

All in all, waivers is a compassionate gift for the Polish Prince and knowing the Spurs, I bet they already know who is taking his spot.

This is destined to happen. Just watch
