Player The Uncertainty Realm of the Improved Jumpshot of Jeremy Sochan

The spurs can sign him on the cheap next year. He'll likely sign any offer they make to him.

why would the spurs want to sign somebody who doesnt get on the floor? and why would a 23 year old sign somewhere where its a virtual guarantee he wont play?

he's going to be better off signing somewhere like Brooklyn or Sacramento where they actually could use somebody who defends and he can hopefully demonstrate improvement in other facets of his game

the spurs wont even bother extending a qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent. he's either going to accept something near the minimum for a prove it year, or slightly more than that on a 2 year deal with team option.

I expect that he will play again now the trade deadline has passed. He's going to get another year. Spurs hold tight to their draft picks.

i'd say he's far more likely to sign for the lakers, where they need defensive specialists

if nobody was willing to trade for him (and i doubt the spurs had much of an asking price), its not like they'd play him much if he was acquired as a buyout.

his best shot at showcasing himself will be if the spurs find themselves needing a spark in a playoff game and he makes plays on that stage
Korndog has shown that get banged up from time to time and we obviously have no intention of ever playing Biyombo... so at a minimum Jeremy can carve out a role there.

Jeremy's not even being afforded the opportunity Lonnie Walker got, mostly due to the team actually being competitive (though we were a play-in team in Lonnie's final year), and the Spurs just let him walk.

Spurs aren't as tight with their projects as you seem to think. In fact only 2 of 8 picks from 2018-2022 have gotten 2nd contracts (Keldon, Vassell). 5 are long gone (Walker, Luka, Primo, Branham, Wesley) with one more pending (Sochan).

I imagine it also has some to do with attitude. Lonnie for all his warts as a player gave effort seemingly

The final casualty from our tanking years. He didn't make it across that final river to the promised land. He was a noble soldier. Godspeed.

I think sochan tries as hard as he can he’s just in his own head/sucks right now. If we could get 30 pt blowouts and give him garbage time to rehab his mental state for a few games maybe that would help. It’d be to both his and spurs benefit if he gets out this funk

I see Jeremy’s career going one of two ways. Either he hangs around the league on different teams for a couple more years before moving abroad in his mid-late 20s, a la Lonnie Walker. Or he struts his stuff in whatever team he ends up in next year, wins an 8-figure multi-year contract, and makes us regret letting him walk.

I may have missed someone commenting on this but went to the game last night and didnt see Sochan on the bench. Any rumblings that he plans on being bought out? Curious that they didn’t even bring him, especially with Kornet not being available.

He didn't travel with the team yesterday.

Jared Weiss reported today that Jeremy doesn't intend to seek a buy out.

Not being bought out. Will be with the team through this season.

He's not pursuing a buyout. Doesn't mean he won't be waived though, not exactly a great sign for him staying that the team didn't even take him to Dallas.

What's the point in keeping him and not sending him somewhere else where he could play a defensive role?
