Player The Uncertainty Realm of the Improved Jumpshot of Jeremy Sochan

Nice, wouldn't really want that on the books for next year either.

tbh Sochan's plight should serves as a warning to Castle as well.

Castle is at year 2 now. If he still unable to get this 3P% to average at least and continue his TOVs, he might be in the same situation as Sochan in his 4th year
Ridiculous take as Castle is already a top 10 defender at the wing / guard position. His TOs are a function of a terrible Mitch half court offense.

I don't understand why Sochan can't just play D, grab rebounds and maybe some nice passes for a few assists. He could avg 2/6/4/1 and be a huge plus. Why force him to handle the ball? Why force him to drive with his clumsy can opener paint penetration? Just as a basic role player he would be contributing or at least upping his trade value and then we can see what develops from there and if it matches salary and expectations.
Possibly because the general manager wants all players of importance to be able to grab a rebound and bring the ball up the court for this position less interchangeable basketball theory.

Good question. That is what I initially thought, but didn't ask the question.
As usual with the lack of team communication, it could mean everything or it could mean nothing. It could be Jeremy's agent trying to save face and act like he wasn't already being shopped.

Agree with the 1st part. Not as much with the 2nd; his handle is loose and he makes plenty of boneheaded pass attempts and dribbles off his feet or gets ahead of himself a lot. He owns the turnovers imo.

At least according to Don Harris, he's been on the block for months, so I don't think Carti B's recent play has anything to do with it

Always love when our local beat reporters post this stuff after the fact...

To be fair to Harris, he reported something similar earlier in the season or maybe in the summer when people were saying Sochan was kept out of trade talks (for Fox I believe was the context) and Harris said no he wasn't, and the Spurs were open to trading him.

I wonder if the recent play of Carter Bryant played a part in the Spurs allowing Sochan to look for Sochan’s bad performance opened the door for CB.
Ironically, it was Sochan’s bad play that opened the door to CB getting more mins. I think the Spurs saw the writing on the wall early this season if not over the summer. CB seems like real hoop junkie, Sochan seems more like a junkie.

No argument on Castle's defense...Just that I wonder if a poor shooter at PG/SG position can survive in the league in 2 years time, especially when shooting is more and more valuable by the day in this modern NBA era.

Sure, Castle still has other skills like playmaking and throwing lobs. But without being a shooting threat, just thought that his overall value might be reduced to a bench player.

I think it’s a fair point, and there is probably where some point in Castle’s failed development that the Spurs try to move on. I could even see it being as soon as this summer if Castle lays an egg in the playoffs but his perceived value is still high and he can be used to land an All-Star Caliber player on a fairly decent (meaning, less than the max) level deal.

With that said… let’s just hope the shooting comes around.

Seeing Bulls as an interested party in Sochan I hope Spurs somehow snag Ayo Donsunmu
I like Ayo a lot. If we think Julian can start at the 4, I think it opens up the possibility for him.

I have seen some articles mention he’s the most sought after piece the Bulls have right now though (as a playoff rental since he’s expiring, but an acquiring team will have Bird rights)

Don Harris seems to be the only local guy willing to report anything on this team.

Sure as fuck arent those morons 'writing' for the Express News...

Always liked him (even his Rodman imitation) and would have thought, you could use such a versatile defender in a league/conference sporting the likes of Doncic, Avdija, Durant and others.
I also got the impression, that he worked well with Wemby (Cuts, Assists to each other). And I would assume, him being a good off the court guy, even though you never know from the fans point of view.

Thus said, this season he started to see ghosts everywhere. There was no power and confidence in his finishes. Pretty much Ben Simmons vibes. This and his so la la...well so la la on good days...shooting make it plausible, that the Spurs didn't want to invest in him anymore. Him being on the contract he is right now, is ok...but handing him out a bigger deal, which he likely wants, is another deal. Might as well get something back right now vs just letting him walk, while staying a little more flexible down the road.

I wish him all the best and hope he saw the PG and Center experiments not as his downfall, but more like a missed chance. Hope he gets a nice deal and a chance to fit better.
