Player The Uncertainty Realm of the Improved Jumpshot of Jeremy Sochan

I take it you were never introduced to Ben Simmons offseason shooting videos...
Again, it wasn't about the makes in the videos; his shooting form was completely different. Ben Simmons form has never changed.

Do any good nba shooters have a hitch in their motion? Why doesn’t anybody tell him “hey no hitches today” or something to that effect

Yeah, that's such a dumpster fire. If I were the coach, I would teach him to shoot left handed. I could probably get him shooting a decent percentage with good form in one off season.

Tyrese Haliburton’s shot ugly AF. So was Kevin Martin’s back in the day. Devin’s isn’t exactly pretty or text book.

The important thing isn’t actually form,it’s repeatability. Good form just usually makes that easier.

Fun fact: the year Haliburton came out, GS had one of their two lottery picks. They brought in Hali for a workout and for interviews. Steve Kerr told him to never let anyone “fix” his shot.

Guys like Wesley and Barlow came out real young and needed more time to develop into serviceable players. You could see the talent if you squinted, but again they just need more time.
Most of the draft are 19 YOs. They were both just really raw, especially Barlow, who played for OTE, which isn’t much more than gym runs.

Like old man Kerr knows anything about shooting. /s

Those guys shots certainly aren’t Ray Allen kinds of pretty, but no hitches at least. The Sochan shooting is just a mystery. So many changes in such a short span, he knows his whole livelihood is dependent on figuring it out and yet it continues to regress (both in form and result).

I am grateful to no longer be in the Sochan business but wish him no ill will going forward.

not to ninja this thread but has anyone seen this bonnet-wearing bro's tribute rap song to Jeremy yet??

Edit: he's usually wearing a bonnet lol. I disagree with most things he says and he's been probably the biggest sochan stan on YouTube. Glad this cringe song will be the last I hear from this guy

Wut

lol it takes balls to put that on the internet... at least i'll give him credit for that.

i stopped listening to this guy when i heard him say that Sochan was a dealbreaker in any Lauri discussions

The Sochan clan is so strange. They probably saw his nipple grabbing on Brunson and thought "d'awh he's so wholesome."

Was a staunch defender of sochan but really lost all hope when he went with NY instead of Phoenix or Chicago. Maybe the rumours of multiple teams being interested in him was false but if they were true he should not have chosen NY at all. Mitch Robinson does the same things he does and better.

Sochan's rep is that of a poor offensive player but a good defender. Hoopshype put together a defensive metric that shows Wemby being the best defender by far and Sochan tied for the eighth worst defender in the league with Tyus Jones and Nick Richards.

Wow I thought he was pretty bad defensively but yeesh

When ur assigned to other team's best player that likely skews numbers

Yeah, I don't think Sochan's nearly as bad a defender as people say because he was put on the leading score for basically every team the Spurs played for every game that he started.

What surprises me is how badly his basketball IQ tanked as the Spurs started to get better as a team. That along with the lack of improvement in his jump shot is indication to me that he wasn't really paying attention in practice and was able to rely on his natural athleticism until the league got tape on him and knew how to beat him.

He was not really athletic for an NBA player. He didn't jump well for his height and couldn't finish if a defender was near the basket that's why he stopped and looked to kick it back out.

Jeremy Sochan is shooting 87% in April.
