Player The Layne Staley Depression-Laden Foxhole of De'Aaron Martez Fox

Currently at 2.5 3pt made per game on 6.5 attempts, 39%.
Would be good enough for 25th in the league in makes and 30th in attempts if he played enough games to qualify for the leaderboards.

Just 17 players that attempt 6 or more 3pts per game are more efficent than him, with Barnes and Vassell being two of them.
Out of those 15, I'd say just Mitchell, Edwards, McCollum, Murray have similar shot selection with all the off the dribble and stepback shots as primary ballhandlers.
I'd say not bad for a supposedly terrible shooter according to some members.

It was obvious his finger caused him a lot of issues last season. He's been effortless this season with 24ppg on 61% TS.
Not bad for an undersized chucker according to some members.

And he's also at 3.2 deflections per game, which would be good for tied 21st most in the league with Castle if he played enough games.
Steals are at 1.4. Enough for 21st, same as deflections.
Unlike any other all-star point guard except SGA, he actually takes tough assignments by design and has done well in most games.
Not bad for a traffic cone according to some members.

I'm also hyped about Castle and Harper, they'll both be stars in the future, but Fox has been the biggest difference maker this season compared to the last year.
He could easily be more selfish like most other stars and run his ppg up to 28, even 30, but he decided to be a leader and prioritize winning. While still taking over and making tough shots whenever we need him to.

It will be a robbery if he continues playing like this and doesn't make the all-star game.

Happy for the guy. Can't imagine what the transition must be like to go from a team where you're depending on Sabonis for rim protection and your best young player is Keegan Murray to the situation he's in now
 
I'll admit I was bit sceptical about his acquisition.
Over the last couple of years things have been pretty busy on the home and work front ( in a good way) that I've not watched a whole lot of non Spurs games. I was a bit worried Fox was one of those good stats on a bad team.
I'm happy to be wrong. Guy is talented, wants to fit in and win. Seeing him run to the corner, effort on D...
 
Remember when the Kings with Fox and Sabonis had that one good year and Mike Brown was the coach? And now Fox is going to play against his old coach in the cup final. (And obviously we, as Spurs fans, know Mike Brown).

How Mike Brown's firing ended De'Aaron Fox's time with the Kings: "If Mike [Brown] gets fired, I'll be going on my fifth coach. ... I'm not going to play for another coach. I'm going to play for another team."
 
he's had up and down games, but his average speak for themselves.

in his career year in sacto where he was an all-star, cracked an all-nba team, won clutch player of the year and all that, beam team, etc... his averages were

25ppg, 6.1 assists, 1.1 steals on 51/32/78 splits paying 33.4 minutes per game

this year, he is at 23.9ppg, 6.2 assists, 1.4 steals on 49/39/84 splits playing 32.9 minutes per game. when castle, was out, he was scoring 26.7ppg on similar effifiency and actually slightly less minutes per game

its going to be inconsistent because there will be Castle games and there will be Fox games as far as who is having the most success and opportunities to attack (and sometime harper games!), but as long as he keeps giving effort on defense and producing this well in the aggregate, im not sure what more we can expect

Fox pretty much destroyed every defender the Thunder threw at him. Got all the tools to go point for point with SGA in a series.

I can't pick between De'Aaron and Stephon. Both have been great and key players in helping the team get big wins all season. I've started voting three all-stars for the Spurs.

I agree that Castle is worthy of consideration. The tiebreaker for me is that Fox was more important when we went 9-3 without Wemby (and Castle was out as well for a lot of that). Fox was absolutely phenomenal during that stretch. Maybe both make it? Seems unlikely but we can hope
 
What go unnoticed is Fox's great character, selflessness and willing to embrace the team concept.

Fox letting Castle and Harper runs the offense while he is sharing the floor and playing off ball show that he is really mean to be a Spur.

Yes, De'Aaron was gigantic in those games and was one of the biggest factors in helping the Spurs get those wins in that stretch, but Steph's also been huge in some of the Spurs' biggest games of this season that he's played in. I won't pick between either one. I'll just vote for both with any votes I put in from today on ward (I only started voting today). Normally, I don't really care about the all-star game itself (due to the lack of defense) or all-star thing in general, but going to try and show support for these guys. I guess you could say that it'd be really nice to get De'Aaron in as he's also someone that might still care about it as much as the young guys do. He's probably missed out on all-star selections being on some of those shit Kings teams. he's had all-star seasons before but not been selected.

Very unlikely to have 3 Spurs in all star game. Western conference is just too stacked...

However, I do see 3 Lakers (Luka, Reeves and LeBum) in the all star game :st-lol:
 
This guy's got the best of all worlds right now. Gets paid a max salary for the next 4 years, gets to play in high leverage games, doesn't have to kill himself every night trying to carry a shitty team, gets to mentor young guys, and can just play to his strengths while his teammates can cover up his weaknesses. S tier decision to force himself to SA when he did.

I wonder if he still thinks about that time Amin Elhassan dissed him out of nowhere saying that Ja Morant "is who De'Aaron Fox thinks he is" years ago. Well well well how the turntables...
 
I mean... there was someone among us (I can't remember who) who was saying we should go after Ja and not Fox. De'Aaron's game (and personality) fit what we are trying to do here so much better than Ja (who also isn't very reliable from an availability standpoint).

Still can't believe we got this guy.
 
You can tell fox is happy with the situation. But it has come to fruition by truly buying in to the team vision - even though he's at the early part of his career prime. Having been the equal #1 option at the kings he knew that for this team to build the necessary identity, confidence and momentum it would require him to take a different approach to what almost all superstars would default to.

Selflessly, fox looked to first fit in after missing a few games as the team for off to a solid start, then began stepping up as the primary with others going down, to now forming the burgeoning chemistry we're witnessing with all 9 rotation guys, making everyone better whilst also showcasing all-nba level offensive efficiency (egg, ast/to) and a modern perimeter game buoyed by the new weapon in the arsenal in the form of a deadly 3pt shot. This is on top of strong man and team defense, as a switchable perimeter cover with off-ball disruption.

There may be better players at the point guard position, but in terms of skillset, culture, leadership and willingness to buy in... For Spurs, fox is worth his weight in gold

You can clearly see that Fox has bought in to winning basketball. What has been impressive to me is how he has let Castle and Harper play to their strength while he plays off the ball or take the main scoring role if the youngsters are not feeling it in a particular game.

Such a blessing and luxury for Wemby, Castle, and Harper to have Fox as a mentor, tutor, calming presence during tight games.
