thru 12 games played, Fox is hitting 38% of his 3's on 6.3 attempts per game... and they are by no means all wide open catch and shoot looks, plenty off the dribble, stepbacks, etc.

but just by the eye test, in open catch and shoot situations, he's basically money. his shooting is WAY less of a problem than we had feared. also bodes well for the castle/harper stuff

he is historically not a great shooter, and he was pretty poor last year (maybe you can write that off due to his busted finger on his shooting hand)... but he did shoot 37% on 8 attempts per game in his last full/healthy season in 23-24

that season on the Kings was my argument for not having to worry about his shooting. That and the abysmal spacing on the Kings with Sabonis and DeRozan on the court. It was always clear he will get better looks on the Spurs and his percentage should increase.

Fox is clutch and will not shy away from big moments, plus the refs are giving him those ticky-tock fouls I hate if other stars are doing to Spurs like Curry, Harden, SGA. Funny earlier Franz couldn’t buy a foul, and I kept saying, “sorry you’re no Fox”

So far he's shooting a career high in 3fg%, and ft%. His overall fg% (48.8) is second best in his career (51.2).

He's basically on par in assists, blocks and steals.

His rebounding numbers are low (who cares?) and he's turning the ball over at an all-time high (I'm sure that'll improve with time and getting to know better the guys and plays).

He's been living up to his clutch reputation, 97 4th quarter points in 9 games since Wemby went down.

I said well before he played his first game this season he's going to be awesome. So many people were talking trades before he even played a game. Spurs would be sunk without him in this stretch. He needed a bit of time to get used to playing again, and so far, he's looking better and better. I just wish the whole team could get healthy so we can start seeing how it all fits together.

The only thing that changed was being gifted Harper, otherwise I think everyone is/was on the same page. Its a great "problem" to have.

That's the last thing I want to see. Shai becoming a good/great three point shooter. I was not expecting him to be shooting this well from 3 point range so far in the season.

Shai must be a maniacal worker. For a guy without some insane size or physical attributes to turn into the player he has become is honestly just awesome. I think he is actually somewhat underrated in terms of athletic ability (running & jumping), but there are plenty of guys with a better athletic profile (vertically more so, Shai is top tier laterally) who aren't anywhere near the player Shai is.

Makes me even more excited to watch Dylan develop; Shai is a case study in what a guy with good size and lateral movement can become if they have supreme work ethic.

Well, all I can say is maybe I made a mistake. My dream (if I could choose anyone) trades for Kawhi back then were :

1. Anthony Davis
2. Trading with Phoenix or Sacramento for the number 1 or number 2 to draft Luka (I wanted this the most as it was the only thing that may have been slightly realistic, and I think the Spurs did try to trade with the Kings)
3. Trading with the Clippers for Shai and their 11th or 12th picks (not sure if the Spurs tried as I'm sure they didn't want to give him what he wanted and trade him to an LA team. I also don't know if the Clippers would have even offered them Shai)

Looks like I undersold Shai as I didn't expect him to become this good, but major props him. Looks like he's an amazing worker and works his ass just like you said. To use a word you said, he might even be more maniacal of a worker than even Kawhi. His improvements are truly amazing and inspiring really. Plus, it seems that he's also great teammate and not an asshole like KL appears to be.

Small sample size, but it seems to me Fox has made the improbable (for his archetype and experience) leap to at least solid 3-point shooter.

It's not like the volume is low and its just wide open spot ups, either. He's letting it fly with confidence, taking a decent amount of pullups and doing so in clutch time too. Impressive stuff.

Without Fox in these 9 games without Wemby, let's be honest... we're probably 0-9... 2-7 at best.

Give this man his props. He's doing what you expect max players to do, yes... but that is still some high level shit. And I think he'd be first to admit he's not even at his best yet.

So...anyone else starting to get concerned that Fox seems like he cannot beat anyone off the dribble? For a PG who is supposed to be the fastest player in the league feels like we've seen very little of that in game. He struggled to put up 14 last night against a team with weak interior D. I hope he's just coasting and not pushing things too hard because of the summer injury but I'd be lying if i said the alarm bells are not going off in my head
