Player The Layne Staley Depression-Laden Foxhole of De'Aaron Martez Fox

I'm not sure what else Fox needs to do to be more of a fan favorite here. I know fans of all teams tend to more easily embrace the players they drafted. But this is a former all NBA player who WANTED to come to San Antonio, who accepted a role on a deep team that may prevent him from ever even being an All-Star again, who doesn't ask for his shot or complain about his usage going down, who everyone else on the team loves and views as a mentor, and who more often than not is the one guy you can rely on when the rest of the team seems to be losing steam.

It's like some of you think because he's making a max deal he should be more of a selfish player to generate max-worthy individual production. I would argue he's doing more to earn it this way.
easy, play like he did in game 4 and 5 all the time with fewer stinkers.

i wouldnt expect Fox to lead a wemby-less team to an nba title. maybe a win against portland though. game 2 we had a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter and saw it go away. thats when you need a closer, just like Fox did yesterday when portland tried to make it a game in the 4th

being a closer doesnt necessarily mean making successive go-ahead shots in a razor right game

Sure, but closers also don't bat 1.000. Game 2 was bad all around, and Fox was the main culprit, but the other games (combined with the intangibles I mentioned in the previous post) should be enough to earn more goodwill - or, hell, just less badwill - from Spurs fans*...

*not you in particular, more the irrational cliff jumping neanderthals who are ready to dump him for picks after every missed jumper.

i know its a tough ask for him to juggle these roles of "letting castle/harper get theirs and not getting in their way" vs "being the veteran/closer who can deliver us these wins"... but he's getting paid sufficiently to warrant him to manage those roles

the frustration comes in games where we our offense is struggling and he's also being passive or ineffective... or when he is invisible/ineffective down the stretch, like he was for the first 3 games of this series

yes obviously if he gives us game 4/5 performances regularly nobody would hate on him

there's legit frustrations to have. I was worried after game 3. But Fox wasn't horrible in those games and people have been complaining about him all season just becuase they don't like the level of his stats. I don't think your position is awful by any means. Its reasonable. But lets also not act like the vast majority of Fox criticism this year is baseless while also not giving him credit for how great of a teammate he's been. That's the big deal with comparing him to Durant. Durant is so fucking toxic that despite being one of the all time greats he was only able to win by riding Steph's coattails and the good vibes of that team and he couldn't even make that last. Fox on the other hand, tried to make it work in a super small market witha shitty front office, asked to come here, and has done everything he's been asked to do but because he got paid and because he's not reaching the arbitrary mark some folks have set he's been shat on by a very annoying contingent of fans.

So all he needs to do all the time is average 25 and 8 while shooting 61% for an undefeated team. Easy!

The entitlement, lol
he scored 21 ppg yesterday with 9 assists, I think that this is not too much to ask for a max contract player. Man, I wish my boss had low expectations like that and still pay me what he pays me.

I wasn't gonna answer back because you are so dense that I know that no matter how much logic and clarity I use, you will still come back with a wall of words (maliciously or just because you trully don't get it) totally misinterpreting my comments. But then I thought: "fuck it"
lol. The entire thing is you gloating about you knowing Durant will be on his best behaviour because you were right when you said CP3 will fit in despite people saying he won’t.
First of all, I'm not saying "I KNOW" KD will be in his best behaviour because of that, I said that "I THINK" KD will be in his best behaviour for a number of things I listed: like this being his final chance at salvaging his reputation, him and Wemby liking each other, and, mainly, because I think winning keeps everybody happy and I expect SA with KD to win a lot, just like they are doing now.

The CP3 comment worked as a counterargument to the folks saying KD would be a locker room cancer. It was to highlight the fact that people here (or SpursTalk really) already thought that of a previous player and it ended up being totally wrong, so the same could happen this time. I never said the "majority" used that argument for not wanting CP3 back then, I just said I remembered folks using that argument, I never gave a quantity. That's just you implying something out of my words that I never said, nor implied at all. Your lack of basic reading comprehension is not my problem.

So either you have the logic of an eggplant, unable to understand the difference between a free agent signing and trading away your 2nd best player on the team, plus not understanding that had less than 1/12 of the respondents disagreeing with you is different from 100% of the posters disagreeing with you, or

You can’t accept that the original premise was faulty, admit it and move on.

Again, you not understanding what the original premise was doesn't make it faulty. What is in fault here is your reading comprehension skills.

Hey, at least you stopped banging the drums on the CP3 thing again, just like you drop the Manu is the best passer ever, trade for Harden, Manu > Dirk and other unpopular opinions as if you’ve never mentioned it before.

This is just an embarrassing childish emotional attack that happens when someone clearly knows that is losing the argument, tbh. :st-lol:

he did technically average 21 ppg yesterday but i think its easier to just say he scored 21 points

and I would be fine with him averaging 21/9. So far in the playoffs, he is doing well; if he continues like that and improving his FT%, that would be great. Next round is probably going to be against Denver against which he had three bad games out of 4. If he plays like he did the past two games, I think that the Spurs will be fine

All we ever wanted was a decisive fox that played to his strengths…I was an unrepentant POS in my evaluation and I apologize for bringing the mood down, should have been more patient.

Obviously ring or bust this year but unless Fox truly screws us out of a win vs OKC him saving us the final two games of this series to give our guys playoff WINNING experience makes his playoff run a win for us

Yup, you parading a take accepted by most posters two years ago is definitely helping you draw clout on an opinion nobody agreed upon today on a totally h related topic, and I’m the illogical one.

Then of course, you pulling the I was right when people were wrong was a perfectly mature way to bolster your point, but pulling your crap takes is embarrassingly childish emotional attack. lol.

For the record nobody agreed with you in the entire thread so hopefully Durant will join through a trade with fox, fit in perfectly in the team and act as a perfect mentor for our guys. You can put that on your tombstone to remind mankind forever.

And I'm fine with 15 and 5 if the team wins and he isn't needed for more.
THIS. It's the box score watching and max salary combo that seems to be breaking people's brains. Here's another number: 62 wins and a #2 seed. You didn't see that coming, did you?
