Player The "It's My Time" Busted Clocktower of Devin Vassell

I’m about 99% certain the only reason Vassell is starting over Champ is because of the contracts. The optics of benching a $27M guy just starting a $135M extension for a $3M per season guy is not great. Both for Vassell’s trade value and the Spurs handing out that extension.

Champ with all his limitations is still a legit 3 who is 6’8 guy with a huge 8’11 reach vs Vassell who is 6’5.

Not to mention Vassell’s fit is better with the second unit which needs more scoring.
Well they gotta get over it.Vassell is playing bad basketball last few games.Champ is also inconsistent at shooting. But he plays just as good defence
and a much better rebounder.Stop over paying players.

I would love to see Mitch dial up more plays for him in the middle of games when our offense slows down. You can hate Vassell all you want but he can create his own shot very well.
I don't want more plays run for him. I don't want him on the team. That's the play I want. They can't bench him, though, IMO as he'll lose any and all trade value (that's even if he has any).

Vassell and Barnes are great shooters.

Both being 1/4 on 3s is more on the lack of playmaking than their shooting

It's a process to integrate Fox. I just hope it will get better after getting worse

I think this season has put to rest the whole “he didn’t have training camp” nonsense from last year. Yeah he’s just this guy.

The Spurs themselves thought that and they tricked a lot of us into thinking it too. I thought he deserved another chance due to that very reason. I think I may have been wrong.

I was wrong too. I was in the "give him training camp!" camp....yes he is just that guy. Tremendous thread title by the way. (y)

The issue with that argument always was…other dudes don’t forget how to play when they get moderately injured. It’s not a thing. You get rusty for a week or 2 and then you’re all good.

Devin’s injury was very mundane and shouldn’t have impacted anything past his first few games back (where he actually looked good compared to the rest of the year)

I rewatched the game. With 2:30 remaining and Devin on the fast break missing Steph on clear the alley oop to stretch the lead to 5 because it was his time. Horrendous.

IT'S MY TIME (to waste our challenge)

I remember that play. When I was watching it, I expected an alley oop to Steph too. I was surprised he took the shot.

We'll never get rid of him.

He and Fox will go down as the worst deals in the Franchise's History.
Nah, not even close. That belongs to Malik Rose. 7 year, $42 million dollars, all because Duncan liked him. Don't get me wrong, Malik was a scrapper who knew his role, but that's like giving Shampenny a $20+ million per year contract. What Rose made was almost half of what Duncan made back then, for 7 fucking years. I still dry heave at the thought of it.

What frustrating is that you can see the glimpses, like the potential mid-range game. On offense, everything just seems extra hard when he does it.

Forgot about Malik tbh ^^

But inflation wins it anyway.

There is no evidence of Vassell being a great shooter. Hes never been at 40%. He’s below 37% for his career. And his career FT% is barely at 80

When his jumper is falling, is snaps the nylons in a way that just hits different... and I think this has the psychological effect of making him seem like a better shooter than his %s would indicate. And I say this with all seriousness. The J looks wet AF when it's falling and it excites the viewer, but it the percentages are what they are... the math don't lie

think the castle-fox pairing isn't helping him and kj. ball is a bit stagnant and schemes predictable.
