Player The Haggard Falcon Rest Home of Harrison Barnes

if you want to hear a stat that sounds completely made up, Harrison Barnes shot 41.5% from 3 in Feburary

(also Julian shot 41.7% and Devin shot 44.1%)

turns out when our designated shooters are making shots, we are very hard to beat
I’d say teams shooting lights out against us has also greatly reduced, at least it feels like it.

So it was basically our designated shooters shooting well that helped the Spurs overcome a bumpy period. And which means that the bitching about Mitch's coaching being the reason for the bumpy period was basically stupid.

That said. The key to better shooting is also the fact that Vassell returned and gradually got into a rhythm and Mitch did the right thing by getting Champs to start over Barnes...which immediately improved rebounding and shooting for the SL and retained good shooting from the bench.

Opponents only shot .344 against us from 3 in February. As a team, we shot .371.

The return of Vassell and Champ shooting well make HB expendable contributing off the bench which is great

the other part of it was it was a pretty light schedule.

Dallas twice
Lakers with no stars
OKC with no stars
Suns without brooks and booker checking out after only a few minutes
Nets
Kings
Warriors with no stars
Magic didnt have Wagner, of course

Raptors and Detroit (no Stewart) were the only good teams we played at or near full strength

lol weakest link getting outplayed by Carter Bryant and getting injured while napping. Seems like even you understand that now :st-lol:

Really only useful for depth purposes at this point. there is really nothing he does better than CB, flukey 3 pt streaks against shitty teams notwithstanding

Can see the future from a long distance here. Next season Barnes will be 34 and entering his 15th season (with TONS of mileage). Bring Barnes back with a front-loaded 3-year deal (team option year three). Barnes works triple-overtime on the community front ("Spurs Culture" warrior, you might say), provides good depth and maybe wins us two or three regular season games, hopefully bags a ring or two, and then gets to ride off into the sunset and wander the halls of Spurs facilities with all the other retired Spurs.

He is going to have to settle for a massive discount or be let walk. Great guy, but all signs have pointed to him losing a step and a first health vulnerability. The only way is down from here as Bryant emerges on the other side

Guess you can say Barnes sleptwalked his way out of the rotation

How much more then the min is he worth? Good person but getting older. Dont think he is worth the full MLE maybe the smaller one.

Grandpa Barnes was playing really well at the start of the season. There were a few games which he won the game for us. One of it I recalled was against HOU for one of the cup game which he made 5 or 6 3s.

But having said that....his lack of defense, rebound really hurt us if his shot is not falling. It is time to accept Biyombo role on the deep end of the bench tbh. A blessing in disguise from his injury that turned into a serious audition for CB into the playoffs rotation.

With Champ, Vassell, Keldon, Bryant the spurs have a solid 4 guys for the forward spots. HB as the 5th forward vet is a good role for him at this stage of his career (34yo with lots of mileage).

Make it 1+1 and let it be known he's not off limits in trade talks, and you've got yourself a deal. Overpay a bit in the first year if you have to, but 2 guaranteed years at this rate sounds a bit much tbh.

Unc’s demotion has been 100% warranted, and yet I’d bet he gets hot somewhere in the playoffs and helps us win a game or two.
It’s great that we have a head coach who is willing to learn and change lineups as the season develops.

He'll start again most likely in some playoffs games. Champ's just been lights out lately. We're so fucking deep!

As stoked as I am about CB's emergence and development, we're frankly going to need as many guys as possible that can provide some scoring/shooting come playoff time when needed.

I don't want Barnes getting major minutes over guys like Vassell/Champ/CB but fact of the matter is that he's one of the few guys with playoff experience and in theory can get hot for a quarter or two to hit some timely 3 pointers tbh. We'll need him healthy and ready.

Agreed. He provides some steadiness that could prove valuable in the post season. Having experienced vets on your bench is huge for winning in the playoffs. Kevin Willis, Jerome Kersey, Will Purdue, Danny Ferry...guys like that weren't filling up the box score on our early championship teams, but did contribute by adding some veteran leadership and being able to step up and make contributions at the right moments. Winning a playoff series can come down to a small number of plays that turn the tide, so depth and experience matter.

I doubt he ever starts another game for SA, and his overall playing time will be spotty.

He basically has one NBA skill, and when it’s not on, he hurts the team by just being on the floor.

Barnes is dangerously close to acquiring "unplayable" status. He feels like another guy who the team collectively passed him by. Too much of a defensive liability
