Player The Burgeoning 3&D American Sign Language Consulate of Carter Bryant

Give the guy a couple years - Spurs drafted a raw player on the basis of athleticism, character, and shooting signal, so can't really be surprised when he comes into the league raw his first season.

Peyton Watson is decent example of this type of development curve - I'd argue he was a worse prospect in every way compared to Carter Bryant - same height, similar wingspan, lighter, less athletic, worse college metrics. Similar STL%/BLK%, even fewer minutes played, similar rebounding, even worse AST:TO, worse shooting signal. His NBA offensive numbers are probably juiced a little bit being on the same team as Jokic, but it's year 4 and he's well on his way to becoming a net positive player in his age 23 season.

If you look at Danny Green and Shane Battier, two of the best off-ball wings of the past 20 years, Battier didn't even start his career until his age 23 season while Green similarly made a negligible impact until his age 23-24 season. Not saying he's going to be as good as those guys, just illustrating that 3 years is a huge amount of time in a player's early career. If he's still looking clueless in 2-3 years I'll be worried, but until then I'm not going to lose sleep over it especially this season. In an ideal world, CB shows just enough by year 3 that the Spurs can lock him up to a cheaper extension, then have team control on a value contract for 5 years (4th year rookie + 4 year extension) while Wemby is in his age 25-30 seasons.

Frankly CB isn't looking clueless..it is a more a case of clumsy execution, that too mostly on offense. On defense, he seems already informed about positioning, and using his athleticism well. Which is why the coaching staff has kept him in the roster and not in the G league.

CB has already played against the best players in the world and he hasn't been awful. He's hard working and attentive. As I've said he's far ahead of schedule compared to any swing the Spurs have ever developed.

Bold prediction - Carter Bryant will be in the running for most improved player in 2027-28 season. By then he will have a clear opportunity for big minutes and his role will be defined and focused to energy generation, perimeter defense, and 3 pt shooting. Future starting PF to complement a Wemby, Fox, Castle, Harper, Vassell, Kornet, Julian rotation.

You would be lying to yourself if, deep down, you don't feel discouraged or concerned by what has Bryant has shown (or not) so far. The lack of feel for the game and finesse for basic fundamentals is simply staggering.

He's light years from being an NBA player and should be glued to the G-league squad. It is still early, but this franchise has seemingly forgotten how to draft outside the Top 4.

Please redshirt him.
Just to put "Small hands CB" inability to Palm a basketball, thus not able to do ally oops put back dunks and break away dunks into perspective. Yes, he does have a below-average length of 8.5" with a hand width equal to Jordan and Kawhi at 9.75", but he can be like Kobe and start grip strength exercises. Just look at this video, many of these guys have "weak" and "small hands."

Here is an Instructional video for Bryant to start his journey.

He looks much better than he did earlier in the season tbh. Offensively he's still clearly a work in progress but defensively he has a much better understanding of where to be and what to do depending on the situation. He needs to spend more time in Austin getting regular playing time.

Not saying, he was the best player available on the board, but looking at the draft, I don't see the clear cut player, you jump on with pick #14, with what we know right now.

That said, he could still end up being the right pick.

The team should also add few more running bet to shave anyone's head if he:

hit less than 30% from 3 in a game.
hit less than 65% from FT in a game.
Committed 5 or more TOs in a game.
Committed 2 or more step out of bound TOs in a game.
Committed foul on a 3 point shooter for 2 times or more in a game.

I think this is lenient enough...

Some of these seem like a personal attack on Steph :st-lol:

I do not think he was a bad pick but definitely needs time in Austin to refine his game.

Disappointed, emphatic yes, but not discouraged. If measured in terms of minutes on the court, I'll bet CB has the shortest path back to high school basketball out of all NBA players. Basically, he's a 14-year-old with a PornHub subscription at this point of his development.

I think he needs to spend more time in Austin, for sure. In hindsight, trips to Austin should have been scheduled in advance, say two or three games a month.
