Player The blessed howl's moving castle of Stephon Javonte

Castle better be ready on all cylinders cause dude has some tough competition ahead.. i loved Harper debut
Harper will replace Fox in 2 years. Harper, Castle, and Wemby are the future. That is picks 1, 2, and 3

This dude’s a flat out killer. TBH I don’t have any more goals for him. Even if he’s more of a bench guard who can’t find his shot - whatever. He’s so much fun and such a heel.

But it’s almost certain he’s going to keep growing into something awesome.

Saw an interesting stat from the Spurs broadcast last night, Steph was 3rd in the NBA with number of dunks among guards. That's not too shabby for a rookie in a system like the Spurs. I'd guess Ant & Ja were 1 and 2.

EDIT: Christian Braun was number 1.

Wanted to ask this here, was listening to Dunc'd On Podcast about the Spurs season outlook and Nate Duncan mentioned that he views Castle as the most overrated player in the league. He has always been low on Castle (can't shoot, doesn't think he will learn to shoot, not enough juice/wiggle for a lead ballhandler, shouldn't have been RotY, etc) which is fine, I respect the opinion but disagree.

He also mentioned that he thinks teams will almost exclusively begin to "hide" their centers on Castle and play a 3/4 on Wemby and let the center roam off Castle to pack the paint. We've seen teams put centers on Sochan (maybe Barnes as well?) to allow a 3/4 on Wemby before with success, did that happen with Castle last year too? I can't recall that being a strategy used significantly.

I, too, disagree with Nate Duncan.

Thinking back on last season, I don't recall centers matching up with Castle. I don't think that strategy will work beyond a possession or two. Castle's stroke looked smooth in preseason, I think he'll show improvement and would punish teams for playing bigs on him.

Seems like some bad reads. I'm big on Castle and think he's going to be a beast even if he's not drilling threes. Among the mistakes -- many of the massive dunks Steph got up last year were when centers tried to guard him. He shreds them. He's not a player you want coming at the rim with a full head of steam.

I believe in Castle's overall game. I was adamant about not trading him. I didn't want to include him in a trade for Giannis or anyone. That's despite still being a little scared of his inconsistency shooting wise (it kind of hurts seeing some of those bad misses knowing how hard he works and wants to improve and be great), I was overall one of his biggest fans last season. Early on in the season, he was already 1B. to Victor for me after about his second week. I did question the Spurs' coaching staff quite a lot at times during last season when he was getting benched, and I also thought there was quite a few games where they underplayed and he got too little minutes in some of those games. I believed he should have gotten more minutes for his development (to fast track it even more with the potential he showed) rather than wasting time on playing other guys who had already had their chances and didn't prove or show much up to that point.

Castle still has time to work on the mid-range game.

Even Nephew took like 4 - 5 seasons to finally show that his complete mid-range mastery

I sort of don't care that much about the 3 ball. I would love for him to get a good mid-range game going. If he can hit those mid-range jumpers, that would open up the driving lanes even more for him.
