I totally forgot we could trade for Yabusele since he doesn‘t get any playing time on the Knicks
Yeah you can basically get him for free. He‘s always been a good defender and can shoot the 3, so just a low risk move that might get you a rotation piece.Wasn't he salary dumped by Miami a while ago? If he's injured and expiring I can't see him fetching a second rounder, maybe matching expiring and cash considerations, or a swap of 2nd rounders or something minor like that. On paper he'd be an interesting low cost addition, but he's had meniscus surgery and recently had experienced knee swelling. Those surgeries sometimes result in lingering cartilage issues or worse, so I'm kind of leery, but Spurs have knowledge and inside info that I don't so if they were to take him I wouldn't second guess it.
this would actually be a nice move. Send Biyombo to the Knicks for Yabusele. Knicks are in the tax and Biyombo's contract is non-guaranteed, so they can waive him and save 5.5 million. Spurs get a PF for the bench who should be better than Olynyk.I totally forgot we could trade for Yabusele since he doesn‘t get any playing time on the Knicks
For the most part I've been against throwing a haul at ST's favorite target for past few years (Lavine, Trae Young, etc) but Giannis is likely to stay a top 3-5 player for the remainder of his contract, if you can get him without gutting the roster and your future, you have to consider it. If Giannis comes out tomorrow and says he wants the Spurs, and you couuld get him for something like Castle + Vassell + Sochan + a couple picks, you have to at least consider it IMO.Not a big fan of a giannis trade. Doesn't fit the timeline, can't space the floor when we already have a lot of players who thrive in the paint. We would have to give up Castle or Harper, which I really don't like.
Honestly I'd much rather try to get TMIII for Vassell + picks and keep our core intact.
I don't expect anything big from us at the deadline in any case, just some consolidation moves. Biggest need is a competent third string center given Wemby's injury history, and another 3&D on the wing (although I don't really see who we could realistically get for cheap there).
We don't know if Wemby can stay healthy which makes any trade with multiple outgoing FRPs not worth it, even if it's Giannis. For the most part I've been against throwing a haul at ST's favorite target for past few years (Lavine, Trae Young, etc) but Giannis is likely to stay a top 3-5 player for the remainder of his contract, if you can get him without gutting the roster and your future, you have to consider it. Yeah, that's the uncomfortable caveat that caused me to draw the line at couple of picks (Atlanta's) and Castle and not going beyond. But even then, you may use that same concern to argue for the trade rather than against it, that is take advantage of Wemby's bargain years while you can. Also, playing alongside someone as imposing as Giannis might actually bode well for Wemby's health outlook, sparing him of some of the more physically taxing aspects of the game.We don't know if Wemby can stay healthy which makes any trade with multiple outgoing FRPs not worth it, even if it's Giannis.
seems as if Indy is the perfect place for those change of scenery bloomers. J O'Neal, Artest, Oladipo, Sabonis.........good chance Sochan does better there than anywhere else.Sometimes draft "busts" just need a change of scenery. Aaron Nesmith was considered a bust in BOS before they moved him over to IND and he blossomed. If Walker was better, it would cost a lot more to get him than Sochan and some SRPs.
There's only one ball, and we already have many mouths to feed. I'd much rather throw picks at a bona fide role player like TMIII that completes our roster than at another star. We have the core already with Harper, Castle and Wemby, let them grow together and build a roster around them. For the most part I've been against throwing a haul at ST's favorite target for past few years (Lavine, Trae Young, etc) but Giannis is likely to stay a top 3-5 player for the remainder of his contract, if you can get him without gutting the roster and your future, you have to consider it. A year ago at this time before we had Fox and Harper I would have been all in on Giannis but not anymore. Just need a 3&D PF plus experience and this team is a title contenderJust my opinion but I don't think we need any more star power. Just some moves around the margins. I'm out on a massive package for Giannis (and I'm actually someone who really like Giannis)
. but at this point, i dont know why anybody would want to blow this nucleus up for a shortened window.Just my opinion but I don't think we need any more star power. Just some moves around the margins. I'm out on a massive package for Giannis (and I'm actually someone who really like Giannis)
agree. Just want a high level 3-and-D starting PF so HB can come off the bench and this team is set. I'm not giving up Harper nor Castle for Giannis. Wemby/Castle/Harper is the new big 3 for years to come.A year ago at this time before we had Fox and Harper I would have been all in on Giannis but not anymore. we like what we havePersonally I do not feel any urgency to move HB to the bench this season. He's playing great, is a huge culture lift to the team, and it's not like there are a ton of upgrades available at a price we're likely willing to pay.
I view the starting 4 as more of a "next year" problem myself.
Agreed. This team is so stacked with young talent I'm not doing anything to mess with its core. Not looking to break that up for Giannis on the wrong side of 30.Just my opinion but I don't think we need any more star power. Just some moves around the margins. Gotta wonder if MLE is going to get them much of an upgrade over Unc.Personally I do not feel any urgency to move HB to the bench this season. He's playing great, is a huge culture lift to the team, and it's not like there are a ton of upgrades available at a price we're likely willing to pay.

yeah... and im not even sure thats the spot Carter Bryant is vying for. he's he is pretty big for a wing, but he seems much more comfortable way out on the perimeter on both ends of the floor. not sure he has HB's savvy to battle with bigger guys, box for position, or have the footwork to do anythign meaningful down low on occasionGotta wonder if MLE is going to get them much of an upgrade over Unc.
I anticipate that the 4 going forward will be a "PF by Committee" approach. We just have so many resources tied up into the future on other positions that I can't imagine we'll have the ability to really pay for a high level starter at this position. It's gonna have to be something that ends up looking a lot like HB/Lunch Lady/Sochan.Gotta wonder if MLE is going to get them much of an upgrade over Unc.
Yeah gotta be a priority to get HB signed another two years. Who knows what he looks like at 36 but right now at 33 he's pretty critical to the team and I doubt he'll cost more than MLE.yeah... and im not even sure thats the spot Carter Bryant is vying for. he's he is pretty big for a wing, but he seems much more comfortable way out on the perimeter on both ends of the floor. not sure he has HB's savvy to battle with bigger guys, box for position, or have the footwork to do anythign meaningful down low on occasion
im not sure what numbers will look like, but barring something big happening at the deadline, i think they ought to work on an extension before the season ends
I don't think Sochan is back. He'll get a better contract somewhere else than what the Spurs will be willing to pay, especially with how many teams have cap space next summer. I expect they'll work to find him a soft landing spot at the deadline to a team that wants to extend him.I anticipate that the 4 going forward will be a "PF by Committee" approach. Maybe next year that mean some combination of HB, someone like Dean Wade, and a draft pick.
I didn't include Sochan in my plans next year.I don't think Sochan is back. Bonner, Blair, and a few secondsWhere are all the Giannis trade proposals? Guys are slacking on the job I see.
My bad. I do think Olynyk would be cheap and worth keeping another year.I didn't include Sochan in my plans next year.
