I don’t see how a PF that’s tall is still priority after these five games. We’re top in rebounds, top in defense. You can make a case by saying Barnes is not making his 3’s anymore, or is too slow and is letting his man slip past him - but neither of these things are because he’s lacking in height. If you’re looking to replace Barnes and his inadequacies, then all you’re looking for is a more consistent shooter and a player who has better foot speed.

this. We just need a PF that can shoot 3s at a high volume and play good perimeter defense. I still see Jerami Grant as a valid option. Overpaid for 2 years and has a player option for his 3rd year. Shouldn't cost us anything but expiring contracts to get him.

PJ Washington would be good if the Mavs are trying to move him at some point or Aldama from the Grizzlies, but both just signed extensions and aren't on the trade block. Then there's MPJ in Brooklyn, but I don't think he's worth the assets we'd have to give up. Maybe Rui Hachimura, who's on the last year of his deal.

Yeah, this is where the scouting team and GM can really get us to the next level, by finding a relatively inexpensive young up-and-coming FA or trade piece who fits with Wemby, Harper, and Fox, who then has a break out season in his new surroundings.

I'm not advocating that we trade for him but he's worth Sochan, Oly and Kornhub combined. The value is there and he's impacting his team positively.

I like our squad and I don't necessarily think we need to trade for anyone but Kessler would be a nice fit here.

Someone is going to throw a huge bag at Kessler next summer when he hits free agency so he's not a guy the Spurs can afford in two to three years.

This is where I'm at as well. Trades and the draft are part of what I love the most about the NBA, but it's hard to see a trade that makes sense right now because of where we are. I think we might look at a buyout candidate later in the season, but that's about it.

Should probably trade Sochan since the Spurs won't be able to pay him the four year deal he'll be seeking and most likely able to pull as a RFA. And if the opportunity comes to flip Vassell into a similar quality vet on a two or three year deal you'd have to look at that since Vassell's money could make extending Castle tough.

I guess the point,is, he’s Keldon,who people here bitch about being overpaid. Why do we need two of that, especially since there’s a near certain chance he would pick up his 28-29 option, the salary climate being what it is. That’s after the point where we want salary on the books.

I'd imagine he would be a S&T. Im just saying even if we lost him for nothing it's not the end of the world as far as I'm concerned.

I think you underestimate the value of his hustle and general energy. It’s been awhile since he’s been on the court. You can’t flip him for two rotation players so I’m not sure you’d be gaining depth.

It’s super encouraging to see our guys embrace their roles and if Sochan shows the same willingness to get in where he fits in. Then I think he’ll show some real value.

I completely understand the deficiencies but this roster is finally at a place where a guy like him can show some value without having to show too much.

Just be a good connector, capitalize on hustle momentum and play good defense.

These things are not inherent in run of the mill bottom feeding contracts.

Everyone here seems to want to come off the power of friendship but two out of the three are rounding out this roster in ways we haven’t seen in some time.

We are not going to ring with a temu contract bench. We need guys who can step up when others are out too.

I think we’d be making a mistake gutting our team for contract reasons. Unless it’s a significant upgrade we should ride this out for awhile.

The only piece I can see the Spurs moving this season is Harrison Barnes.

They are not gonna break up the friendship crew without at least giving them a full season look after the Fox addition.

Spurs have a lot of flexibility with the Sochan situation. If he sucks donkey dick, then Spurs will just let him walk. If he's much improved on the offensive end then Spurs can match any offer sheet. Or they can use him as a sign & trade piece to improve in some other manner.

But lets face it, Sochan with a 3-ball is just what the Spurs need, so I don't see a scenario where he improves but the Spurs decided not to bring him back.

A lot of young players get written off by incompetent franchises way too early, every season there's like a dozen of them that prove their old teams wrong.

We have Olynyk and third stringers to match salaries if such an opportunity presents itself during the season.

For about a year I've been saying Champ is like 70% of Cam Johnson.
I think I've been underrating Champ.

As a hater I'll say that if Devin can keep playing on this level his contract won't be an issue.
But only if he continues being engaged on defense and doesn't disappear on offense.

17ppg and 40% from 3pt on 6 attempts is worth 25-30 a year if the player isn't a negative on defense.

Agree mostly.
Although the team might take a bit of a rebounding hit once fox is back, as you'll see less minutes for castle/champ/ Barnes who are better rebounders than fox

A really good example of why it’s bad GMing to constantly shuffle pieces looking for gold or bargains.

Vassell's contract represents 17.5%, 15.9%, 13.2% and 13.1% of the cap each year, which would make him the 65th, 78th, 89th and 89th best paid player in the league respectively. So not sure what's your point when my argument holds even accounting for what you point out (which every poster here probably knows, BTW)
