Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

If Patrick Williams maintains his strong start, maybe Sochan and Olynyk for him by the trade deadline?

He's underwhelmed, been injury prone and traditionally hasn't shot the 3 with enough volume, but still only 24 and fits the 3 and D big wing or combo forward archetype.

He's overpaid, but if Sochan is going to command MLE type money anyway, it's only another $5 million or so annually for a potential Barnes replacement.

Not opposed to this. Would make Vassell extremely happy as that’s his buddy. You’re not going to trade for the perfect role player, and you can do much worse than Patrick Williams.

Oly is "only" 2 yrs older, a much better shooter and better rounder, and doesn't cost you anything. Oly has shot 50% from the corners over the past 3 yrs, he provides the spacing and rebounding we need better than Kyle.
Not sure Kyle's corporate knowledge from 8 season back does anything at all, Oly is more up-to-date on the Spurs today.
After heel surgery he might be a C only. We shall see.

I've really come around on Lauri's fit. I didn't want him last season when a lot of people were in on him, but right now, I'd love him as I feel he'd be a perfect fit. Unfortunately, I like the price to acquire him a lot less than I did last off-season.
Trading for Lauri is going to get you 3 max contracts on the books between him, fox, and Victor supermax. You will still have Castle and Harper in the pipeline for huge paydays as well. Let's say they both get a max or near max. There deals will kick in right when Fox and Lauri deals roll off. I don't think the baby Holt's have it in them to pay 8 consecutive years of 2 max and 1 supermax contracts. He would be a great fit but I just don't see it as mathematically justifiable to trade for him.

Yeah, I know, the salary isn't workable anymore. Definitely not doable anymore. If the Spurs were going to go for him, it would have to have been done last off-season.
Wouldn't have had Fox or Harper, though, as Spurs probably don't trade for De'Aaron and most likely don't get the number 2 pick. I'm not sure if you guys would take that over what the Spurs currently have. I'd much rather Fox and Harper.

How about Fox + Sochan for P Will + Zollins + Tre Jones + a protected first?

I don’t think they make major moves this year unless Fox divas out. I think they want to see what they have this year.

I get the Lauri interest, but we don’t necessarily need more offense from that position in my view. They need rebounding, defense and general dirty work. Theoretically that is Sochan to a tee, but we have to see it of course.

Or Caleb Wilson in the upcoming draft… he’s signed to Klutch, btw.

Would much rather have Harper and Lauri than Harper and Fox. Lauri fills a glaring need for us at pf we don't have anything their but the corpse of Barnes and Sochan with the hope that Carter Bryant turns into something. We need Fox now but at some point it's likely that Harper becomes so good you can't just play him 20 to 25 min anymore and when that happens it will be time to have a real conversation about Castle or Fox.

Which makes sense. You draft a point guard number 2 and if he is really a number 2 pick he will eventually become better than what you have.

Don't worry, he'll be injured and out for long stretches again soon and you'll remember why it was a bad idea to trade for him.

What are the odds that Franz Wagner becomes available of the Magic implode this season?

The only player that looks even remotely worth a significant haul is Kessler. Fuck Markkanen. Kessler is looking solid, effective and efficient.

I’ve rarely advocated to move two 1sts but this wouldn’t hesitate with the way this guy has looked.

Kessler has been shooting lights out (on 2 attempts in4 games) so far this year. Didn’t see that one coming at all.

The Mavs are desperate for scoring from the guard position. Vassel is playing his best ball in years and is raising his trade value. I’d test the waters with Nico on Vassel for PJ Washington and Klay Thompson. They probably consider Klay a negative asset, but he only has one year left after this one. His play really fell off after the Luka trade because he can’t create his own shot anymore. PJW would be a great fit at the 4.

This is just an idea, y'all.

I posted this in the Atlanta picks swap thread, if Trae Young is going to miss significant time & if the Hawks want to consider a reset wrt Trae's contract extension, I'd consider removing the swap option on their pick in exchange for Asa Newell. The sweet spot for such a deal is slim, as no way ATL makes that deal today, and no way Spurs want to deal if the lottery aroma gets too strong. Maybe give back the 2027 pick too in exchange for an unprotected first years down the road when it can be a valuable dynasty sustaining pick.

On paper, Asa Newell looks like he's custom built to for the Spurs PF role: 6'11 (6'9" barefoot, 6'11 ¹/⁴" wingspan, 8'11¹/²" standing reach), and decent athleticism, he looks the part. Looks good putting ball on the floor, and his shot is a strong maybe+ (4 of 9 from three in 3 games as a rookie).

Also, he's on a cost-controlled rookie contract which could really make things easy for the front office in the short term (maybe we bring back Barnes on a team friendly deal, bump Champ up with an extention). ...and if a deal is struck early, we don't have to wait a year to begin developing our possible long term power foward situation. He can probably give minutes at C too, in a pinch.

6'11" but 6'9" barefoot means 6'9". Everyone and all measurements should be equally measured barefoot

I don’t see how a PF that’s tall is still priority after these five games. We’re top in rebounds, top in defense. You can make a case by saying Barnes is not making his 3’s anymore, or is too slow and is letting his man slip past him - but neither of these things are because he’s lacking in height. If you’re looking to replace Barnes and his inadequacies, then all you’re looking for is a more consistent shooter and a player who has better foot speed.

It's hard to imagine a player we need less than Kessler... Wemby's backed up by Kornet, and Olynyk will be healthy soon. The center position is completely covered.
Kornet’s body is built for 3 minutes per game. The ankle is just the beginning.

I honestly think the odds of any kind of meaningful trade are like 5%. The players most of you want are stars, and we already have THE star, and their contracts would destroy our depth.

Patrick Williams is an overpaid version of Keldon.

Keldon’s deal was a year shorter, and descending. It ends sooner, too. Winds up being like $19M less for the overall deal.
They're still making the same money this and the next season.
500k less for Keldon if we're going to nitpick.
