Sounds like someone in Silver and Black will be ready for a nice feed in the dunker spotthey're going to be driving against Flagg who can recover and block from behind while going into great shotblockers in AD/Lively. going to be very daunting
Oh yeah Harrison Barnes gonna eat from the dunker spot lolSounds like someone in Silver and Black will be ready for a nice feed in the dunker spot
That’s what I thought. So… assuming Dallas proceeds to start the big lineup they’ve shown in the last 2 games with Flagg, Klay, PJ, Davis, Lively… i think we need to start Korndog and bench Barnes.
Castle defends point Flagg, Julian and Devin defend the wings, you probably open with Vic guarding Davis and Luke on Lively. If Vic gets a quick foul you switch his assignment with Kornet.
Starting Barnes at the 4… i don’t see how we don’t just get demolished in the paint and on the boards.
True, but we’re all eager to see what it looks like when the team is whole. My hope is Mitch doesn’t stick with Barnes too long. I know he has his warts, but I can’t see them NOT starting Sochan at the 4 (unless they want to start with French Vanilla).
I’m thinking:
Fox-Vassell-Champ-Sochan-Wemby
This didn’t age well…Their bigs are also pretty athletic. Honestly, Dallas might be the worst match-up for the Spurs in the NBA currently tbh.
Tbh I was very happy to see DJG get minutes last night. However, I think there’s a limitation to how many games players on two way contracts can play. Hopefully DJG gets secured on a Champagnie contract soon - that would be sweet. Our guard rotation would be set for years and years. Can we start talking about a 12-man rotation?
It makes sense if we have the horses, and this is the direction the game is going (well, it feels like OKC & Indy go 12 deep). Instead of navigating "65" games for your stars (really, Wemby and Fox), instead dial it back more often and give them several 10-15 minute games.
And, while we're way past past tanking, we still have tons of development to do. If I'm the coach, I'd want to step in this direction (of bigger rotations).
One last point in favor of large rotations, guys manning slots 7,8,9... need to feel constant heat, and lots of it.
I'm not in such a rush to secure DJG just yet a la Champagnie, I'm more interested in securing Champagnie himself, but that probably has to wait until next offseason at the earliest.Tbh I was very happy to see DJG get minutes last night. In the same vein we need to find more players out of the blue like him to continue to be deep for the next decade.
Still holds true tbh. The fact Wemby did what he did last night to AD and Lively makes it all the more impressive. This didn’t age well…
the next test will be to see if he can abuse teams that try to guard him with thick wings like Dort and BrooksStill holds true tbh. The fact Wemby did what he did last night to AD and Lively makes it all the more impressive.
He didn’t have a problem with PJ, and he’s that type.the next test will be to see if he can abuse teams that try to guard him with thick wings like Dort and Brooks
Barnes has an iron man and starting streak that I don't see the Spurs breaking.
Sochan fits well with Wembanyama, but the problem is Wembanyama should be the offensive hub, not reduced to a floor spacer or have less advantageous matchups while playing in a crowd because opposing teams will cross match their center onto Sochan and ignore him.
i really doubt OKC will let him dribble this easy into the paint as Dallas did ... but one game at a time ... NOLA nextthe next test will be to see if he can abuse teams that try to guard him with thick wings like Dort and Brooks
They definitely won’t. But that’s the part where our elite guards do their work. No lazy passes either.i really doubt OKC will let him dribble this easy into the paint as Dallas did ... but one game at a time ... NOLA next
He was rarely dribbling all the way into the paint. His strides are so long that he can, pick the ball up 15, even 20 feet away and finish.i really doubt OKC will let him dribble this easy into the paint as Dallas did ... but one game at a time ... NOLA next
Watched the game last night on ESPN's Above the Rim stream. This was what was so in your face apparent. Not just that the steps are long, but how quickly and fluidly VW ripped through the defense. He was rarely dribbling all the way into the paint. i think their bread and butter will become the pick and pop. who stays out with wemby? and who tries to stick with Fox exploding to the rim?We have yet to see what the Fox/Wemby PnR will look like... important to keep in mind.
IMO, this limits Harper’s effectiveness. He has less time with the ball in his hands this way. I think they should stagger those minutes until Fox leaves. You’re basically taking away the team advantage that the Spurs would otherwise have with 48 minutes of deadly PG play. There still a lot to figure out, but I think we can settle on Fox, Harper, and Wemby as firm starters, now. It's plain Harper is ready.
yeah, and even now with Fox out, not that Castle should be a point guard, he's a better option than, say, McLaughlin. so you still want one of Castle/Harper out there as much as you can anywayIMO, this limits Harper’s effectiveness.
