Game Thread Spurs @ Pacers (Mon 10/13/25) [6:00PM CDT]

The history of the NBA is littered with 20+ ppg stat monsters and even HoFers who never won jack shit. Manu was a team first warrior who wanted to win more than he gave a shit about starting and being seen as a "superstar". Harper would be lucky to have 4 titles and be a star player and HoFer with both starting and coming off the bench throughout his career.

We'll see if he has what it takes.

They just gave that guy $200M so, yes, he will get the nod. If they can't figure it out with all those guys, my hope is that Fox is the big contract in a few years that brings in the finish piece for a title push.
I would love to see them trade Fox for Siakam. Perfect PF to put next to Wendy. Such a smart player and great shooter. Put him between Harper/Castle/Bryant and Wenby and I bet they make the conference finals (I am jumping ahead in my mind a couple years lol).

reunite fox and hali? lol

he's no siakam but im still butthurt we didnt do anything for john collins given it took nothing to get him. they let him go for Kyle Anderson and Kevin Love lol

Pacers got Siakam for 3 late FRPs.
But he's turning 32 before the season ends, definitely not on our timeline.

As for Fox, I can't wait for him to suit up and prove the doubters wrong.
I personaly have no delusions that we'll get another star player. I just want an elite D and 3 wing like McDaniels or Anunoby.
If only Jeremy could get his shit together.

Can't wait to watch the healthy Fox/Wemby combo. Listening to bball podcasts there are a lot of Fox doubters, I think he'll storm out to prove them wrong, especially with Castle/Harper in the wings/pressure.
Haven't been this excited since the 2013-'14 revenge year!

Are you guys complaining still?

This team has tons of potential,
Fox starts and dominates (Fox is a freakin all star- harper is just a rookie and he will have time to learn from Fox)
Harper is the 2nd pg and dominates
Vic dominates and when Kornet comes in- their is very little dropoff

Castle is a utility piece that fits anywhere…

Give the team a chance and give mitch a chance…relax.

The only way I see them trading for a star is if the team way overachieves this season and they want to make a run at a title before Wemby and Castle need big deals. Probably not going to happen, will have to develop what we now have into a star team.

That's why KD made sense from cap space standpoint.
Would've been a perfect short-term solution.
It's just that Suns asked for Castle or Harper which was a no go. We couldn't match Rockets offer.
We can't take anyone who's going to be on a max deal in 2027-28 season and onwards.

I don't know how to get rid of this. Disregard.

I think making Fox instant offense as the first guy off the bench is something you can sell him on. Tell him to abuse the other team, first with Wemby, and then as the primary everything when Vic sits. Strategically that makes sense to me.
Never going to happen.

Actually, while Castle would sign his extension in 2027, it won’t kick in until 2028, so there’s one more year of cheap Cadtle, and you can take a one year longer deal in trade.

Manu went to the bench because there were so many useless pussies at shooting guard whose numbers would crater if they weren't starting. Manu came into games cold and wrecked the place. For years. In his prime he's my shooting guard after Jordan and before Wade.

I don’t think there’s anything that won’t allow fox castle and Harper to start together over time. If castle and or Harper have a reliable three ball a year from now. Castle as an sf is a possibility in many scenarios depending on the opponent.

The question is money. From what I’ve seen mentioned here it makes sense to push the decision a year or two and you know if Harper and castle get max extensions. Then if so. Trade Fox. If not. Well. Whoever doesn’t cut it doesn’t make it

Siakam will be 32 this season, and makes a ton of money. Exactly the wrong player. You draft your Siakam, and we may already have done that with Carter.

I feel like they’re done with big trades unless they find a deal that keeps their cap sheet relatively in good shape (near impossible) and/or if Fox is the one being traded. Too much financial strain otherwise to acquire a star.

Man, it wouldn't be SpursTalk if there wasn't constant complaining. The game Wemby scored 50 points last year everyone flooded the post-game thread to complain about Zach Collins.

Is that a known thing? That castle was a deal breaker? Other rumblings have Jeremy as the deal breaker on our end.

Was there any credible reporting on what happened ?

This game made me feel way too irrationally hopeful about this season.

Yeah, KD was kind of perfect with his contract and Phx having to move him.
But we have plenty for a lower level guy. Barnes/Oly/Sochan are expirings this yr, Keldon is next yr, Kornet only has next yr guaranteed (plus 2.5M the nest) we've got contracts to match, tons of 2nds now much more valuable with the Apron, and a team guys want to play for. Something will come along (or Bryant may develop or Sochan maybe learns to shoot and we look a lot better).

With the apron some teams will have to trade real pieces just for salary relief and guys always get disgruntled or just need change of scenario. We're sitting pretty.

Pretty sure it was reported that offer was Vassell, Barnes, 14, and Sochan...Houston entered the talks, Phoenix countered demanding Castle and Spurs walked.

It also doesn't pass the smell test that Sochan was the deal breaker. You don't pass on Durant to keep Sochan and than not extend Sochan. If they were high enough on Jeremy to lose Durant to Houston, Jeremy would have a contract.

Ofcourse i know manu very well. Manu was a 25 year old rookie. By the time harper reach that age he might have allstar, all NBA, all those accolades in his belt. The thing is i dont want harper to be like manu and just be a 6th man. Also manu didnt become a superstar in the NBA. Yes he is a hall of famer like mitch richmond is. Manu was a hall of famer primarily not because of his nba career, its because of international play and olympics. harper might not be able to reach his full potential in a spurs uniform. Especially if he just setlle for just being a 6th man.
I think it would be a pretty great outcome for Harper to be like Manu, only thing not superstar about Manu's game was his stamina. But OK, everyone compares Harper to Harden and Harden won 65 games in a loaded west next to the biggest ballhawk in the league at PG in CP3 and you don't think that kind of player can fit next to Fox?
