Game Thread Spurs (59-18) @ Nuggets (49-28) (Sat 4/4/2026) [2:00PM CDT]

cant really be too mad at the loss

this team has come up big many times this season and they came up short this time

again, this only helps the team playoff wise, good reps for em against a team they'll likely face in the 2nd rd

the loss probably ends the #1 seed chase and Wemby's chance to steal mvp, would have been really awesome if he hit that game winner again

Agree. I think we (or maybe with someone else) had a conversation about this exact thing awhile back. At the time of the trade it was a great pick up because we needed a pg. Getting Harper, which I think the Spurs thought they had no chance of getting the second pick, and the leap Castle made this year kinda threw that plan off.
Scott and maybe you and I discussed that exact thing a while ago. Good memory.

I’m not happy about any player going down, but this could be trouble for the Lakers
Could be trouble? They're in deep shit with Doncic and Reaves.

Carter bryant played great d in the first half.Yet mitch still forced barnes in the 3rd qtr letting braun go off
thanks to barnes not playing d and giving him wide open shots. This loss is on mitch.
This is a big problem. Around the time I was advocating starting CB (looking back, I was wrong), I think he was playing well and at least earned backup minutes. The problem is, Mitch didn't play him much after those good games or let him build off of that confidence. Mitch has mishandled CB IMO. The kid could have had a lot more confidence and possibly been a solid rotation piece in the playoffs. Mitch didn't do him any favours after his good games. Shit, even within the same game, even if he was playing well, he'd get his minutes cut and not see much court time in the second halves of some games. Doesn't make sense to me the way Mitch has handle CB the past couple of months.

Wemby had a pretty good look at the buzzer. I thought he was going to make that.
Very good look. He really did not need to fade at all, though. No idea why he didn't take a cleaner look at it with more balance.

We have our own prospective playoffs droppers who are already in choke mode (Fox, Keldon are giving that vibe). I think Castle is going to have to be our second-best player to win the series. I honestly think he has "IT" more than Fox to deliver in the big time, but that's just me
I am a fan of KJ, but I just don't believe in his shot/shot mechanics and am I bit worried on how he'll do in the playoffs. He also doesn't have the highest BBIQ either to compensate for if shots aren't going down. He's had a great season up until this point, though, and there is no reason to believe it won't continue. Like I said, my main issue is his shot form/mechanics and getting that shot off with accuracy in the playoffs. He's got to be able to hit those open shots especially.

One play I asked @Ice009 to remind me about… Braun set up right in front of me, I could practically smell his asshole, on an inbounds play… and literally no one bothered to guard him. Luke and Dylan just kind of stared at each other and they made the easiest inbound for a 3 in history. Braun looked amazing tonight, dude could not miss - I know he hasn’t shot great this year, but you wouldn’t know it from this game. He looked like Prime Klay out there.
Thanks. I thought you must have had a good view of it. I thought you were going to maybe give us some inside stuff. I thought maybe one of the players said something to another player, but seems like it was just a breakdown.

Keldon missed 3 or 4 threes literally right in front of me. Rotation was solid, shoots were good, they just rimmed out. It happens, but he’ll bounce back.
I hope so. I've just got this nagging issue with his shot mechanics and whether or not it'll translate in playoff games where he's going to have to get the shot off a bit faster and with accuracy.

Nuggets were allowed to be physical. Spurs were not. It kept TVs from turning off….., which kept the Nuggets in the game.

And….. Spurs didn’t execute down the stretch. It’s likely a preview of the playoffs. The Nuggets are NOT the better team, but they will be allowed to more physical than SA will. It it what it is.
This is the whole point for me. Why are the Spurs not allowed to be as physical as some of the other top teams. Why are the Spurs' star player not getting more free throws when guys like Luka, SGA get?

Yup...dont like how we developed bryant this season.Had to many games were he didnt even play,To games where he played only 8 mins a game.
Should of had him get some reps in the gleague for few games at least.

I think he’s been developed fine. TBH, we’ve just been spoiled rotten by how incredible Dylan is. A rookie shouldn’t be playing meaningful/ essential minutes for the second best team in the league.

It’s that, and that they needed to have the reckoning about benching Barnes. It’s interesting how HB went from sure fire extension candidate to having a 50/50 chance of being on next years team.

Barnes probably gotta go.Hes either just getting old,Or he just really doesnt care about defence.Hes the weakest link on defence this season.

Joker hits an insane shot in Wemby's face and y'all blame Mitch Johnson. Never change.
That has nothing to do with it.Fox was playing flat out bad.Yet mitch stayed with him over harper. He also did the same with barnes over
bryant this game when he played 17 mins to bryants 5 mins.Bryant brought good energy and defence in those 5 mins,Yet barnes played terrible
defence for 17 mins and mtched stayed with barnes.

Much needed win for the Nugs, good for them. This was more of a scheduled loss than we are admitting. 3rd game in 4 days, plus it being an earlier tip off is diabolical. Meanwhile, the Nuggets had the last 2 full days off. Those 2 combined probably amount to a 10 point swing minimum if we are being realistic.

Oh well, get 60 wins and strategic rest for the guys.

I wonder why wemby didnt attack the basket on that possible game winner? I watched the replay again it looks like he can dunk it against gordon and jokic. Insted he chose to take thatalmist out of bounce fadeaway.

Joker has hit that kind of shots over AD's face for countless time as well and during their playoff battle with LAL

Unstoppable shot tbh

But yet he didn't make those against OKC in 2 chances recently. Could have made it a 1 game difference instead of 3.

Because he was trying to play heroball like Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant with a classic stepback fadeaway game winner instead of a boring layup or dunk at the basket, even though the Nuggets had no timeouts.

Mitch definitely deserves adequate blame, tbh... completely leaving two-way rookie sensation Harper on the bench to rot when the Spurs' version of Dak Prescott goes dribble, dribble, airball, turnover, dribble, airball, dribble brick, dribble dribble airball, turnover, foul a three point shooter, dribble dribble brick, airball, airball, bad pass almost turnover and bricks a wide open 4-footer... so clutch.

At least Timmy's miss, well he had Shane Battier coming over going for the block... I mean a lousy excuse to be sure, but more of an excuse than Fox today.

So where's the blame toward Wemby for being late on defense for the Joker floater? Why would Mitch take out Fox when he's proven countless times this season that he can clutch? If Spurs won today, y'all would still be whining about some obscure shit.

Dont expect Mitch to throw a monkey wrench into the rotations just a few games before the playoffs start. He's going to give Fox a chance to play through stuff. Might as well accept that

I'm fine with it now, but if the Spurs find themselves in a similar situation come playoff time Mitch needs to make the call to go with youth over experience if said experience is shitting the bed tbh.

Ofcourse most poster here are blind homers. They are not going to blame wemby on his obvious mistakes. I can list 3 to 4 wemby mistakes in this game. Especially on the defensive end. He ‘s tagged as the best defensive player in the world and yet made so many damn mistakes on defense.
