Game Thread Spurs (46-17) vs Rockets (39-23) (Sun 03/08/26) [7:00PM CDT]

One last random thought and then ill spare you guys lol;

I was one of those people who was really down on Vassell last summer and was hoping he would be traded...early this season I was convinced (first 5 games) i was right and that he did not fit and was not an unselfish player...

The verdict might not be completely in - but I am glad to have been wrong - and must give vassell props -
I am absolutely impressed with vassell and how he is fulfilling his role and i will pile a huge dish of crow and feast on it!

Even when I see vassell have an off night or make a mistake or two - I am not down on him - i feel he is still giving his all and I will stfu and support him along with every other spur!

For all the talk about HB, he was giving champs his props on camera during that interview he had with the first TNT crew after the clippers game. Whether he’s getting soft benched or what I don’t know, but he doesn’t see to be throwing a hissy fit about it

I don't think anyone has ever had a maturity complain regarding HB. He seems like a consummate professional

I thought no way would Vassell and Keldon still be on the team by this summer when looking at their play a year ago. The improvement from there, and pretty much everyone outside of Sochan has been amazing

Peak spurstalk vibes with those comments. Worse than an all female facebook group talking about vaccines tbh.

You know I think it has a lot to do with positioning. He is excelling in his role this year. I, too, wasn't high on him then, but I am now. We have a great team and KJ coming off the bench is really working as well.

That’s what a winning culture brings, you start believing in the process, trusting your teammates instead of playing hero-ball, you find your fit in the team, and the team start winning, and it’s the best feeling, and you continue to believe in the process more. This team is peaking at the right time

Yes,

Also…maybe at the start of the season before he was injured…he might not have been in game shape…then got injured and the first couple of games after his injury were not great…but it appears that once he was in game shape- everything in his game improved…

His defense, his shooting, his decisions, etc…heck even his wemby lobs are slowly improving lol…

So often on this forum, I come across shit like this and its so weird. Do you guys talk like this in real life? I've NEVER come across people who do and I'm not some clutch my pearls person. When I read this shit, I really worry about y'all man. Gives off strong bitter dude at home behind a computer energy. Why can't y'all just act like well adjusted people?

I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old, but I think some of you all are too and you still talk like this which is just werid AF to me.

EDIT: It does happen here less than at Spurstalk, which maybe makes it even more jarring now. Its like that one dude who has 3 chicks in underwear in their signature. Like THAT is what you want people to associate your posts on a basketball forum with?

Anyway, yeah, sorry, strong old man yells at cloud energy here.

For all the shit people have complained about the Spurs prioritizing culture over the past few years and their comments on the friendship crew or whatever, it appears pretty clear that this group is incredibly unselfish and extremely closely bonded and I don't see how that is anything but a huge win for this franchise. Thank god we don't have edgelords running the team.

I wondering if Mitch gave them a come to Jesus meeting at the end of last year when he was named HC the this is Wemby's team and it will revolve around him get in his orbit or you will be gone type talk.

I tend to think that they probably already knew it was Wemby's team they were just running an offensive system with little to no structure so they weren't doing the wrong thing before. But also, it could be that they also coming up in a system where they were given opportunities and built trust with a front office that clearly wasn't shitty with them allowed them to trust Mitch. Maybe some combination of all of that and having strong leadership in the locker room.

Whatever it is, its clear we lack selfish players on this team and I could not be happier about that. Can you imagine a KAT or Julius Randle doing something these guys do? I can't. I'm glad our fans seem to appreciate it right now.

I think we're gonna need Fox to have a good game tonight. I hope he's in Playoff mode and trying to be more consistent. We're really really good when he has a good game.

I think Mitch will have people heading out if they’re not with the program. He didn’t hesitate to bench Sochan and ultimately waived him. I think it’s made clear that this is Wemby’s team, and Vassell, Keldon and the rest were happy to fall in line, even All-Star Fox. And the Wins just going to make the sacrifices worth it. But it all started with the Big 3 legacy, DRob who all left their personal ego for the team, and have rings to show for it. I think that makes it easier to sell, the successful history of the franchise, that it’s done the right way.

It’s sure is more difficult if you’re playing for Hornets or Pelicans, to trust a system who has little to none to show for it

Oh the best thing Mitch has done, and I do thin this is probably gleamed from Pop, is to ride Wemby as hard as he rides others. We've seen multiple times this year where Mitch has benched Wemby after some stupid shit. In fact I think he's done it to him more than anyone else. You can't complain a single bit if the coach gets on you about something if he's doing the same shit to the MVP candidate on your team. We saw it with Tim, and we're seeing it with Wemby. Wemby did seem kinda pissed off about it at the Wizards game, but not in a bad way and definitely not like what you see from Luka and Reddick the other day.

Barnes can be as nice as he wants doesn’t change the fact that he’s a net negative on the floor and should be relegated to third string. As long as he keeps the vibes up I guess…and writing scholarship checks

So should people be mad at Mitch instead? Barnes isn’t checking himself in.

Need to win this one. Because the next game vs the celtics is probably an L.

A lot of people (me included) are critical of Mitch too…

You’d hope your “vet leader” didnt constantly have shit running down his leg every time he’s on the court. Can’t defend, can barely dribble, can’t shoot so it’s a miracle he still provides some spacing.

Whether it’s a soft benching or serendipitous injury if it ends up with less Barnes minutes and a transformed role by virtue of CBs emergence with more burn the end result is a huge positive for the team.

Which we should all be thrilled with.
