Game Thread Spurs (40-16) vs Pistons (42-13) (Mon 02/23/26) [6:00 PM CST] on Peacock

What a fun season. Our guys have answered the call for pretty much every major test so far. Cavs are basically the only team in the league that has truly bested them this season and I think our guys whoop em if there were a third shot.

Cade 16 pts (5/26, 19%), 6 rebs, 10 ast, 3 TO, 2 stl, 3 blk
Steph 16 pts (7/16, 43%), 4 rebs, 11 ast, 4 TO, 1 stl, 1 blk

My dad died last Feb 15 from a 2nd heart attack after 2 yrs. Thank you Spurs for making my days a little better. Baseline bums have given more as much comfort and safe zone as one can get during times like this.

I remember my dad having cable TV installed at our home just in time for me to watch Spurs Detroit game 1 2005.

90% of teams who got to 40 wins before 20 losses have won championships.

What about 50 wins before 20 losses? 👀

It was amazing how bad they looked when he was out for that stretch. When Wemby was out, we didn't look as bad as when Devin was out :st-lol:
It cannot be understated how important it is to have at least one guy who can just make some bullshit when the play gets broken

I’m really sorry to hear about your dad. Losing a parent is incredibly hard, and there aren’t many words that truly make it easier. Just wanted you to know that on this Spurs forum, you’ve got people thinking of you

I'm sorry for your loss, glad this community can be a place for you to come and remember him ❤️

Sorry for your loss, I have the same memory with my dad

I think this is the game where we all realized, Spurs fans included, that this team can legitimately win a championship this year.
Yeah this is the one for me where I felt like this was real.

So much of the game was impressive for me tonight, but I gotta give it up to Mitch on how much composure and how unselfish this team is. They did not look like a young team tonight but instead put up with the bullshit so well and just played through it. Wemby forced a couple of shots but otherwise just let the Pistons D dictate how to play and was so good at just moving the ball and finding open shooters. Carter Bryant had a good stretch and other than the refs treating him unfairly AF I thought he did his job when the Spurs didn't have Kornet out there. Devin just doing Devin things, same with KJ.

This team is special, and maybe this isn't the year yet but maybe it is.

Fucking great.

Condolences my dude. Lost one of my closest friends last year as well. BB and the Spurs this season have been huge coping mechanisms for myself too.

We're championship caliber, boys. No question about it.
This is why I still wanted to try and shore up the team. I believed they have a legit chance. I wanted to try and shore up the team to give them the very best chance to win. Scott was saying the same thing too.

If we see these boys in the finals, this was good to see. I now know for a fact, I can’t stand their head coach and their best player.
Why do you not like their coach? What has he done/said?

I get that Wemby’s got the sturdiness of a scarecrow but you gotta call some of these shoves
100%. They can't not call any of them. That is a joke. Fair enough if they don't want to call all of the contact, but to not call any of it is a joke. How is he supposed to play if he's being held and grabbed and the time. Fair enough if he has the ball with the physical play, but can't let them do whatever they want off the ball.

Devin might be a big game assassin that just hasn't gotten to play in any big games yet. He certainly doesn't shrink from the spotlight.
As Scott and I have said before (and maybe someone else too who I am forgetting right now), in his biggest games that have meant something in his Spurs career, he's shown up in them.

add Boozer or someone comparable to this mix, and MULTIPLE champs hmmmmm
You CANNOT beg for high draft picks after what we've already gotten in the lottery. It's just greedy.

The game they just played was so physical. Spurs play more finesse and fast. Detroit plays extremely physical, very similar to 2005 pistons. But spurs were able to match them and beat them at their own game. That’s what I loved most about this win.

They didn’t win because of hot shooting or a crazy night by a single player, but they played team basketball, responded to detroits physicality and simply beat them. Wemby with 21pts but my favorite stats are the 17rebs and 6 blocks.
You're not giving Devin any credit. He had a huge game.

Loved watching the physicality of this game. Good good learnings for our boys. Playoffs are more physical, less whistles - sometime egregious. But too bad. The growth for our guys tonight is immense, they know what all-out war feels like.

KJ shoving Cade. Wemby refusing to back down in physicality. Devin and Julian hitting shots that come to them. De’Aaron staying cool in an off night. Castle locking down Cade.

Games like this are a testament as to why we really need Dev sometimes, and why I believe that slump we had was because Dev was injured. He’s a slithering bucket-getter when defenses are throwing wrenches in our flow. The D pays more attention to him on the next possession and starts to loosen up.

Heck of a win! It’s time to start BELIEVEing!

After tonight I’m 100% convinced that we are legit tile contenders and everyone else should be too. That was a playoff type of game and our guys stayed focused and tough and took it to Detroit, a lovely city.
I truly believe some people, including pundits, are going to wonder if this is the real start of the Wemby era after this game.

No, 90% of the teams that win a championship hit 40 before 20. There are three of those already this year, and at most, one can win,
