Game Thread Spurs (36-16) @ Lakers (32-19) (Tue 02/10/26) [9:30PM CST]

I have over 400 graded MJ cards and yet it sucks to see how many of them that were affordable ten years ago (like the Dunkin’ donuts MJ) are tens of thousands of dollars now in some cases. The card market feels like money laundering at this point haha
it's just so shitty that psa grading prices are dependent on the market value of a card, the market that they have a large part in controlling

It's a total racket at this point - I've been liquidating most of my collection outside of some Wemby rookies I'm gonna roll the dice on holding and some other Spurs stuff.

My 86 Fleer Jordan #57 is on auction on eBay right now and ends in an hour and a half... honestly thought I'd hold this one for a long time, but the card market definitely has major ponzi scheme vibes right now and I want little part of it. I've liquidated close to $30k so far (at a significant gain, thankfully) and have one last huge card that will be in Goldin's February Elite auction. Cards I seriously thought I'd hold for decades but I got disgusted into selling

MJ market has been pretty hot though... might be worth considering selling. DM me if you ever want to talk shop

Wow man that is incredible! My collection is pretty modest in that nothing Godin may want from me but just collecting over the last 15 years with a lot of ginobili autos and wemby stuff too.

Well done on cashing in! I keep wondering if this bubble will burst but doesn’t seem like it. Best of luck on selling that Jordan rookie! That’s a grail card for me at some point.

Insane how that star rookie blew up as well once PSA was willing to grade them after so long.

Not only that, but it now takes 3-4 months to get them back and they grade “tougher” than ever so many PSA 9’s now even 8’s or lower.

I have a hundred cards I want to get graded sitting in a box (mostly pop culture stuff nothing of crazy value) as they would have very low POPs but even with minimum cost to grade per card it would still come to $2,500 at least.

Once they got stricter with the grades I figured I’ll wait it out

Jordan ended up going for $6,888.88. I used dcsports87 to consign them, so that card I get to keep 97%. Definitely the way to go.

yeah, PSA (along with Fanatics) is a big part of why I'm getting out. They are just engaged in the absolute shadiest behavior imaginable and now they've acquired both of the other major grading companies. I'm out!

So Scott are you saying it’s worthwhile me going back to my parents garage and finding my childhood NBA card binders from the 90’s? I don’t recall having any Jordan cards but I’m sure there’s a few all star players there.

All I remember from that era is buying the annual Becket card valuation book and seeing Jordan as the highest value cards, followed by a young Grant Hill, followed by Shaq IIRC.

Good times.

A lot of that stuff is also worthless. My biggest chase as a kid was the 1989 Hoops David Robinson rookie card... it's worth a whopping $2 or so right now.

If you have the right cards from the era, it could be a gold mine... but they called that time the "junk wax" era... just lots of overproduced cards, which is honestly what is kind of happening right now. Wemby's base prizm, for example, has 49,000 graded copies... his silver prizm has another 8500 graded copies... and that's before we count up all the different colored parallels.

If you have a lot of 90s stuff, Jordan inserts are where most of the money are, but there are some other inserts (Dunk and Go Nuts, Jambalaya, PMGs, etc) that are valuable no matter the player. If you have any PMGs though, you'd probably know it... those are pretty rare and special. I'm gonna start up a Card Talk thread in the That's Not Who We Are forum so that we can avoid taking up more space here if anyone is interested.

Doubt Reaves and/or LeBron play tomorrow. Spurs better take care of business tbh.

We’re looking at a potential 6 game winstreak heading into the ASB with hobbled LA and Warriors.

Sorry in advance for the jinx tbh @scott

I'm gonna be livid if they drop one against 2 likely Lakers and Dubs skeleton crews.

Same, I'm waiting it out too, I don't have 500 dollars to shell out for 8 cards that won't get an honest grade

I was reading that the tougher grading is bc they're upping the value of their own 10s... which is insane that they're legally allowed to sell their own stuff. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw that.
