Game Thread Spurs (35-16) vs Mavs (19-32) (Sat 2/7/26) [5:00PM CST] on Amazon Prime

It's kind of stupid that 6-0 in the Finals is considered this GOAT stat like it's somehow better Jordan shit the bed in the second round to Shaq and the Magic in 95 instead of making the Finals and then getting beaten by Hakeem and the Rockets. I can't hold LeBron losing to much better teams like the 07 Spurs, 14 Spurs, 17 Warriors, or 18 Warriors in the Finals against his legacy.

Yes, but 2011 was all time bad and LeBron has been on 2 of the biggest ends of Finals beat downs for point differential in 2017 and 2014. He's an amazing player, worst case second best of all time, but if we are going to nitpick on the GOAT I totally get why Jordan takes it. A double three-peat won't be seen again for a long long time. LeBron's finals runs were also impressive, but he was in the far weaker conference in his time for most of his career.

Good teams should try to play fast, all else equal. If you're better than your opponent, that applies on a per possession basis and you should try to maximize the number of possessions in which to leverage that advantage.

Being able to play fast over the course of a long regular season requires youth or depth, preferably both. Only one Spurs rotation player can be considered old (Barnes), and 3 of the 4 best players are 22 or younger.

The Process Sixers also played fast on purpose for the opposite reason: their lineups were at a disadvantage per possession so more possessions meant they were more likely to lose.

🥱 leastern conference charity finals berths
🥱mercilessly creampied six (6) times in the finals
🥱largest finals loss pt differential for a while (might still be the case)

so happy this manufactured “star” POS is flaming out. Can’t happen soon enough

lol, when did you start watching the Spurs making up some stupid shit like that?

11/12 Parker: 6th in MVP voting
12/13 Parker: 5th in MVP voting

15/16 Nephew: 2nd in MVP voting
16/17 Nephew: 3rd in MVP voting

Wemby right now: 4th in MVP ladder
Parker wasnt close to win it those years. He didit even sniff all nba first team.lmao

Kawhi also wasnt close to win it either in 2016 and 2017.

Wemby is at 5th now. Maybe he has a chance but the spurs oranization doesnt want him to win it by ofcourse limiting his minutes.

This is not a correct conclusion.

It may very well be that the core of a team's strength is in half-court play... If you have say, a Boban type C, running leaves him out of the offence. But he is is a dominant weapon in a half-court offence. Depending on their personnel, a team may be much more effective playing methodical half-court ball, rather than end to end running. If you were a Spurs fan in the early 2000's, you'd know this...

Flagg is really really good.
Okay. I concede the point. You guys watch him more than I do. I must have just caught him on bad days. At least he doesn't stay down court whining at the officials while the other team scores on his teammates.

That's why I said "all else equal".

Yeah, an obvious example being mid 2000s Spurs vs Dantoni's Phoenix Suns (Nash, Amare, Marion, Barbosa, etc).

If you have a Boban type center, you’re not winning shit, anyway. The other team will just put him in the pick and roll repeatedly, getting the switch they want, and play him off the floor.

It’s not the 2000s any more. Rule changes around 2015 have made efficiencies a huge advantage, and if you’re more efficient, you want more possessions.

The future Big 4.
I think CB has a very good chance of being an elite defender like Bowen, and even more with his freakish athleticism. This four defensively could be insane, plus Kornet if going against big lineup.

Keep working CB!

My only real complaint about Saturday's game...and it's actually my complaint in any game where we're up big in the 4th quarter, is when Mitch empties the bench and we end up with Kelly O., Bimbo, McLovin, Sochan and Carter Bryant out on the floor together. We didn't score a point after he pulled Harper with around 3 and a half minutes left. That's happened multiple times already this season. There's not a player in that last 5 that can create a shot, it's awful. It's just a sh!tshow watching these guys fumble around. Jones-Garcia was great for mop-up minutes and a backup guy that could get a bucket. CB isn't ready yet to lead an offense, and the rest of that group is terrible. They can't even practice an offensive set because there isn't a scorer in the bunch. Either leave a guy in lineup who knows how to shoot a basketball, or let's audition some scorers who might actually help the team in a pinch. Those last 4 off the bench could all be cut tomorrow and the team would only be better off for it.

Dude it’s the longest time Sochan even sniffed the floor. Give him a break 🤣. Besides these guys need to be ready too especially if they expect to get into the PO’s. McLaughlin was there as the facilitator. And Jones-Garcia is out for the season with a surgery.

And right as I say that, there's a video of that block Victor made on him where he's whining to the officials and Vic gets a dunk on the other end. 😂

Yes, and, that group could have a million minutes on the floor together and they'd still stink. Against LA Mitch was smart enough to leave Harper out there with that group (probably because Sochan was a dead-man walking that night). I think they need to be ready to be cut, like Sochan was. If we're ever dependent on Bimbo, McLovin or Kelly O. for any significant contribution beyond spot minutes we don't have to worry about beating anyone because our season will be over.
