Game Thread Spurs (23-9) vs Knicks (23-9) (Wed 12/31/25) [6:00 PM CDT]

It’s a dumb rule, but tbh the refs got it right on both of them IMO
The problem I have is players jumping forward into the contact. That shouldn't be rewarded.

Watch shooting videos of Champ and Brunson and neither one's regular shooting motions move them forward that much.

I must be a massive homer, because I get annoyed when they call things that aren't fouls on one end and then swallow whistles when they push my superstar when he's in the air.

I think it’s one of those “hate the game not the player” kind of situations. The league has created this monster, and for now we just have to live with it

It's normal to drift forward a LITTLE on a long jumper, but these players are stretching the rule for sure. As a result, defenders either have to choose between a hard contest, or laying back in the worries of getting called for a flagrant. Like Sean was saying, you aren't even allowed to play solid defense under those rules.

Seems like a risky gamble for the offensive player who is putting his ankles on the line tbh

The criteria should be "would the player take this shot in an empty gym?"

Too many never stay vertical

That lady ref is completely lost, how does she call that as a shot clock violation?

LOL, I gotta love Mike Brown though, lobbying for a jump ball when the refs inadvertently blow a whistle and cost us a fast break.

Naturally Castle rewards them with a stupid turnover

Exactly. Funny thing is Brunson jumped forward, realized it wasn't enough to come into contact with Harper, so then he stuck his legs out to make sure he made contact with Harper :st-lol:

Boy they really got the rule book dusted off for this one. They’re calling anything and everything they can

Double-closeout leads to another wide open three

This is a fucking embarrassment.

How can Anunoby be wide open under the basket on the first pass of the possession?
