Game Thread Spurs (2-0) vs Nets (0-2) (Sun 10/26/25) [1:00 PM CDT]

One aspect that no one has commented much about here or in social media is how Wemby doesnt appear all that gassed late in games.

In previous years he would have his hands on his hips, sometimes walking back down on offense.

The past 2 games, he for sure was fatigued and you can see glimpses of that in his play but with much better body language.

I wasn’t able to watch the game today.
I saw the Spurs were up over 20 mid third quarter so assumed it was in the bag, only to later see the Nets came back.

What happened in that stretch? Was it the non-VW minutes?
Partly, but mainly it came down to us not managing to make ANY shot anymore, while they started to literally make everything, like 15 threes in a row (at least that's what it felt like). Also when Wemby came back they started aggressively double teaming him and that provoked a number of turnovers. I think they said there was a 30-7 run for them in the third or something.

Hopefully Mitch can see the obvious regarding Harper...

He needs to start. Our shooters anecdotally shoot better off his drive and kicks, Harper gets by defenders in ways Castle can't. I like Castle on defense but offensively he just isn't a primary ball handler. Not his fault imo, lead guard isn't taught, it's innate.
It'll not happen.

You can't put a max contract on the bench and you kill Castle if you stop his development/learning of the position, especially since he's show real progress. It wouldn't make sense merit wise.

It is what it is, timing sucks, and only from February the 4th will we be able to envision a Fox trade.

Harper will get a lot of time vs 2nd units, which is also a good thing, and he'll finish games.

Why would you trade Fox? Castle isnt a PG. Then your only PGs would be Harper and McLaughlin. You'd be getting rid of one of the most clutch shot makers in the last 5 min of games over the last 5 years in the league.

That would be Nico level insanity

I’m surprised about how unprepared this team appears to be for opponents doubling Wemby or playing zone.
This is the NBA. Hard doubles from the best players in the world are a bitch, and they make you look inept. Timmy learned about them the hard way when Phil Jackson waited for the fourth quarter of playoff games to do it. I think he was a multiple MVP at that point. Vic can start learning how to handle them now. The more film they get on it now, the more prepared the team is for SPAM.

It's not against Fox it's by pure logic and need.

We have a huge talent hole at the forward position and reliable shooters to fill if we want to be real contenders.

Whatever we'll lose with Fox we'll gain with a reliable wing, hopefully who can shoot.

And I personally think Castle is a PG, unorthodox but who'll always be a tough matchup for PGs and versatile bc of his body type. He's only 21 and look at his presence and impact already.

This isn't toward you specifically, but it's wild to me that we finally went out and acquired a proven Top 30 player and people are talking about trading him after he's played a whopping 5 games with Wemby.

Why don't we pump the brakes and see how this all works together first?

I've said this before and I'll say it every time this comes up:

Fox is a top-tier player who specifically requested a trade to San Antonio with the intent of signing a max contract. If you are the organization and you even flirt with the idea of trading him, good luck ever getting a top player again.

I think fans who mention it are, at best, misjudging how big a mistake it would be.

Harper, Vassell, Castle, JC, and Vic gives you four legit defenders, a lot of shooting, a ton of rebounding...
Castle is only a legit defender at the pg position, he can't guard taller guards or forwards.

he had Flagg in jail in the opener

he was playing good defense for the first half of last season where he often shared the floor with CP3... by default, Castle was not defending point guards for much of that time
