I'd still give him a couple of months before really hitting the phones to trade unless someone offered a vet on a short term contract who'd be a great fit. E.g., someone like John Collins would have been.Happily. Bring an offer.
What could he bring?Happily. Bring an offer.
what ends up happening is no trade will happen, he will play out year 4, and the spurs will throw out the 9.6mil QO and let him find a better deal elsewhereHappily. Bring an offer.
*looks with disgust at Vassell contract*Spurs should learn a thing or two from how hard Atlanta negotiates with their own players (Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, Dejounte, Okongwu, even Trae Young). I have a feeling Spurs are trying to be too agreeable and it's backfiring.
Pack of used rubbers and a bad contract back? What could he bring?
Yea, Rockets and Portland as well I would say. Sacto paying Keegan what they did the other day looks way worse after seeing these deals today. The Spurs historically just hate being uncomfortable when it comes to extensions and that will hurt us going forward if BWright can't learn to embrace that part of the business with the new CBA.Spurs should learn a thing or two from how hard Atlanta negotiates with their own players (Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, Dejounte, Okongwu, even Trae Young). Right now, probably a couple SRPs or a useful bench vet without much upside. What could he bring?
I was just thinking this, looking at Camara 4/82, Dyson Daniels 4/100, Jabari Smith Jr 5/122, Sharpe 4/90... it does nothing but put in perspective Vassell's contract (and corresponding trade value). Unless he takes a big leap it isn't going to be easy to find a taker willing to give up value for him.*looks with disgust at Vassell contract*
Buy me a shot of well bourbon and deal!Pack of used rubbers and a bad contract back?
It's like they absolutely have to start the season with Vassell starting and calling shit for him to see if he can show trade value before getting serious about the season at hand when he inevitably doesn't.Right now, probably a couple SRPs or a

Don't threaten me with a good time"Trade him then" probably
Who is packaging up used rubbers? You shop at some wild places, man.Pack of used rubbers and a bad contract back?
Nobody hates Sochan. We all love Sochan. We hate for him to get paid a huge contract when he is just a back up 4. Honestly, how much do back up 4s make? 8 million a year. So that’s how much I want him to be paid.I get that some people on here - and formerly on SpursTalk - have a hate boner for Sochan, but his early career numbers are comparable to - if not better than - Aaron Gordon.
I get the team needs more shooting and spacing, especially since the three main guards are all slashers, but they also need role players, defenders and guys that don't need the ball on offense.
I want to see if Jeremy can finally improve his shooting, yet his continued improvement in other areas (cutting, finishing, rebounding & team defense) are just as vital.
If Sochan would take 3/30, I'd happily keep him here. At that price, he'll be easy to trade if necessary but still gives us a full 4 seasons well below the MLE (including this one) to see if he ever turns into something.Hollinger’s system is pretty good for gauging contract aav’s
Jeremy Sochan, Spurs: I would like Sochan’s odds of an extension much more if he’s traded before the season starts, but I don’t think he fits in San Antonio. He’s already proven that he’s neither a point guard nor a backup center nor a power forward who can share the floor with Victor Wembanyama. We’re running out of things he can be.
That said, on the right team, I still think Sochan is something. With a BORD$ value of $9.6 million, I could see a team trying to acquire him before October and inking something like a three-year, $30 million extension where they bet on his upside. But would Sochan even sign that type of deal right now rather than bet on free agency? Maybe not.
A race against time, but in this case we want the time to run out faster. It's like holding a 1-0 lead in soccer and then the umpire holds up +11 of extra timeFirst F5 session on the new forum has started.![]()

Sounds like a guy worth about $8-10MM to me.Hollinger is an idiot, man.
Anyone that thought Jeremy could become a PG or a legitimate backup C are morons. Such a disingenuous way to phrase Jeremy's situation when those were longshots (that weren't going to work long-term).
The NBA is filled with 19 & 20 year olds - mostly projects like Jeremy - yet fans & media types have a complete lack of patience.
It's clearly what Jeremy should be - cutter/finisher on offense & versatile defender on defense - and that he needs a specific role (like Kevon Looney on GSW) to succeed.
He should get Jared Vanderbilt or Kevon Looney money since that's the type of player he is.Nobody hates Sochan. We all love Sochan. No hate. Just pay what the going rate is. And the going rate for a back up 4 is about 8 million.
I think most of us would agree with that assessment, we're hating on the notion that he should be getting an extension comparable to those of his draft class peers, not those of Vanderbilt or Looney. He should get Jared Vanderbilt or Kevon Looney money since that's the type of player he is.
I think he's got more offensive chops than those two, but not by a lot.
He is a lower-tier starting 4 or a good back up one. That we agree on, but I disagree that folks on here aren't being overly negative & hating.
Fair, the hyperbolic nature of people's criticism comes across as overly negative/hating.I think most of us would agree with that assessment, we're hating on the notion that he should be getting an extension comparable to those of his draft class peers, not those of Vanderbilt or Looney.
