Site Configuration

I give up for now. Chrome is a little better in that I can use message formatting options, but still cannot upload a screenshot from my desktop. Edge is just fine.

I’m not sure what option is needed either.

I’m strictly on a phone. So something simple like taking a screenshot off of a website and then, tap paste, wont work either. I’m rarely on desktop or laptop here.

I know there is a way to set size limits too. I don’t want to be too limited but there should be a cap on pic size.

Maybe we need to troubleshoot a little bit. I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing, but you should be able to drag and drop an image file into a message, and I think it will automatically embed it if it's a accepted file type. What is the file extension/type you are trying to upload? I could be looking at this incorrectly. If it's a video file, those are currently blocked. Yeah, might need to bring the ringer for this.

FYI, @scott , the amount of storage used is only displayed with the login used to manage the payment method, and it's not found within the site's admin panel (insert John Travolta "what?" gif). Currently we are consuming less than 2% of our 50GB allocation (853 MB). Must have some nice compression and deduplication processes running.
Might I suggest we just turn this option on (for photos only) and see what our usage looks like for the month? I don’t think it will bump us over 50 GB

I think as long as we keep the image size limit appropriately small, and people understand we'll probably want to purge old images from time to time, it should be ok. Let's say we make images max 2MB to support at least most modern phone screenshots and most reasonable GIFs, and we assign 5GB of our 50GB to images (10%), still lets us have at least a couple thousand images uploaded before purging, probably much more.

Would also just want to allow jpg, png, or gif.

It's all very configurable luckily in Xenforo, so if we all want to give it a whirl, we can. If it turns out it's bloated out of control, then we can always just purge and go back to external uploads only.

@Guru of Nothing or @scott would be helpful to check what our current hosting size is, you can do that via cPanel in your domain host under disk usage. I don't have any sense of how xenforo stores data in the bg, so I'm really just guessing here.

Two other forums I'm a member at have it set to 2mb and it seems to work well for them. I'm a member at one that has a limit of 1mb and its a pain in the ass to constantly be resizing images etc. So I think 2mb is pretty solid.

Is it possible for the forum to auto resize if an image is too big?

Apparently the usage stats are only available in the payments panel for some odd reason, which only @Guru of Nothing has access to. He mentioned we were at around 800 MB, so less than 2% of our allowed usage - but that was yesterday and I'm not sure if we go by calendar months or anniversary date months... so it might be worth seeing what our average usage is over a full 30 day period?

Sorry y'all, I'm a little confused, but in my defense a pinched nerve is a bitch.

The "Storage Usage" figure is a sum total that should continuously grow as history builds, so for the 853 MB we've accumulated in the first three months, it sounds like we need about 4GB per year (if you extrapolate and round up generously), so we should be good on storage for the next decade+ ... which does not sound correct.

Still need to figure out the issue with dragging "local" image into a message. I'm observing varying results and it's driving me crazy. Need to step away for a sec.

Unless anyone is opposed to it, shall we turn it on and see what happens? Again, we can always just purge images if it gets outta hand.

As a failsafe, there should be a pull down menu when you click the "Report" button for image reporting and if enough people report it (let's say 5) the image goes hidden and goes for mod review. I say this in case the mods aren't active (the middle of the night?) and someone is posting images they shouldn't post (porn, etc).

There's an addon for something like that btw. I just looked it up :st-lol:

I hope y'all learned a valuable lesson, specifically, I suck at figuring out how to tweek settings on this site.

Should we change the forum tagline, "The No 1 destination for Spurs fans from across the globe." ...to?

The Home of Pure & Ethical Basketball is pretty catchy, and let's be real, the internet needs a place for lovers of pure and ethical basketball.

Yeah that sounds way cooler and more relevant to the current Spurs

YES

Done. I changed only the description seen at the top of the Spurs Talk forum. We can can modify if there are nitpicks over the precise prose: The Home of Pure & Ethical Basketball Discussion
