Game Thread Playoffs Round 2, Game 1: Spurs vs Timberwolves (0-0) (Mon 05/04/2026) [Start Time TBD]

I think CB has a chance to have a really good / breakout series tbh.

There's nobody healthy on the Wolves right now that can consistently foul bait like Deni tbh which was CB's biggest "issue" against Portland. Would love to see him get mins on McDaniels and Naz Reid.

The Spurs have a chance to advance to the Western finales without playing too much, which they'll need as OKC is probably going to sweep their opponent or go 4-1. Then, it'll be the best series of the entire playoffs, the finales will be easier for the winner

The Spurs have a real chance this year, they got Portland in the first round, which was probably the best matchup for them, they play the Wolves without Edwards and avoid the Nuggets their worst matchup. Next is OKC, they played them really well during the year, in the finales NY and Boston are the two tough teams for the Spurs and Boston might be out.

Makes me a little nervous how big of favorites we are + how everyone is writing off Minnesota...but there's really no reason this should go beyond 5 games unless Ant miraculously returns quicker than expected and plays like the best version of himself. They simply don't have the offensive firepower to consistently score against our defense given their lack of health. I expect them to struggle to break 100 points tbh.

If the Spurs don't read their own press clippings, and if they can learn to put together a decent effort, everything will be fine. The biggest problem is that they're a young team that's prone to cold spots and prone to letting their foot off the gas.

As long as the Spurs don't take the Wolves lightly they should be able to put them away pretty early.

What kind of whistles can we expect against this team?
They're not foul baiters, the only potential issue for us is Randle, noone matches up well with him and we could pick up quite a few fouls on the box outs since he's too big for our wings.

I think CB might do well on him. He has the right combination of strength and athleticism to match up pretty well. Usually you put a player with one of those attributes on him, and he’ll exploit by going the other direction.

He could do well if he's strictly instructed not to ever jump before the shot actually goes up. Randles has solid post moves and could easily get CB into foul trouble.

Timberwolves have way more things they need to worry about than the Spurs do, none of their guards can match up with ours.

We’re playing basketball in May, dudes…
It really did go from endless arguments about how to tank as many games as possible into legit contention territory within a year. Unbelievable stuff, tbh.
I'd hate the Spurs so much if I was a fan of any other small market team.

Jokic shot just 19% from 3pt on 6 attempts, Wemby will be a way better floor spacer.
McDaniels can shut down one guard, but that won't work against us. Murray was the only competent ballhandler for the Nuggets, we have three of those.
Bench guys need to make the difference, especailly Keldon, 6ppg won't be enough.
i imagine they will have Randle defend Wemby, McDaniels on Fox, and have Gobert sag off Castle, similar to what Portland tried.

where we have the bigger advantage is on the other end, where Wemby can cheat off Gobert who cannot even pretend to stretch him out the way Clingan/Rob did. meanwhile castle spent a good amount of time guarding Randle this year

The scouts better prepare the reports for all Twolves players. All the way to their 2 way players.

Don't want any surprises from some 3rd, 4th string players

Fiesta jerseys are back for Game 1.

If Ayo missed Game 6 with a calf injury, there's a chance he's probably out for 1-2 games tbh. Those don't just heal after 3-4 days.

French Vanilla might be tempting especially late in the 4th.

Gives Gobert an excuse to camp the paint while he guards Luke

but it is an interesting question... what if Wolves roll out their 3-big lineup we saw yesterday. Champagnie needs to be ready for an extremely physical series. its also possible we give Castle the Randle assignment and let Vassell guard McDaniels.

Show this team the appropriate amount of respect and don't take them for granted. They looked great last night and competed for 48 minutes.

GSG! :st-flag:

Really need to lock in and get our first 2 home games. I could see the Wolves declining to bring Ant back if the series doesn’t look very competitive after the 1st 2 games. If Minny gets a split or god forbid a lead you know Ant will be back sooner rather than later.
