Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 1: Spurs vs Blazers (0-0) (Sun 04/19/2026) [8:00 CDT]

It was a bit unsettling seeing the team revert right to back early season form where the opponent goes on a 10-0 run to begin the 3rd quarter.
I am happy overall but right now they are 0-1 in the Playoffs for not coming out flat in the 3rd quarter.
They still won the quarter by 5 at least tbh.

:p
Now they (Trailblazers) have to fly Economy on Southwest, carry-on only. Bus rides only for games in “nearby” Northern California. One set of uniforms per player, wash it at home because we sold most of the washing machines and fired cleaning staff to cut costs. Please try to limit yourself to 8 squares of TP per bathroom visit. Oh and pick up a bottle of bleach and do your part, give your locker a little spray down before you leave.

Imagine if Keldon, Barnes, Champ, and Bryant showed up?

It's been a long time since the last Spurs playoff run, so I feel the need to remind you that the entire nine-man rotation is not going to give you 10+ points every game.

Welcome back to playoff basketball, Spurs fam! Feels good.

Castle and harper gotta be better. And if barnes not gonna do anything,Rather get bryant those mins.Believe we gonna need
him more in the future playoffs against denver and okc.Rather he gets sum reps now in the first round.

Big positives tonight:

Wemby
Kornhub
Vassell

Overall positives:

Fox
Castle

Needs Improvement:

Everyone else

Yet the Spurs still won comfortably 👍

I'm also surprised at Deni's whistle because it came out of nowhere, like overnight he was a foul merchant, and he doesn't go to the rim with any sort of skill. No eurosteps no change of pace no nifty finishes he just runs at the rim a 100mph and throws a shot up.

He had a play where he just flat out ran over Keldon and they called a foul on Keldon. Luckily Dame is back next year so Deni won't be able to ref ball 100% of the time.
Where is this coming from? He averaged over 9 FTA a game and only got 6, 1 of those was from the technical from Johnson.

While he only got 5 FTA during game action, he got some sketchy touch fouls while the Spurs were getting mauled on the other end with no calls tbh.

I just liked the way they competed tbh.

Far from perfect on a lot of fronts but thought everybody kept grinding and nobody shied away from the moment.

I think they come out a lot sharper in Game 2.

Same. Anything less than a win by 15+ will be disappointing tbh (unless the Guests go apeshit from 3).

Avdija is legit reminding me of Luka Doncic with this run he's on tbh. Luckily the Spurs have a Wemby to counter.

Pretty great to see Wemby hit the step back triple to surpass TDs playoff debut scoring total record
Interesting that your comment made me think of TD's age. TD was younger than Victor is now when he set that record. I keep thinking Vic's younger since TD went all 4 years to college, but I keep forgetting, the Spurs didn't make the playoffs the previous twos seasons, so Vic is also not quite as young as I keep thinking he is.

I wasn't able to watch the game live, but just finished watching it now. Very happy that the Spurs won, but I'd give them a C+ or B- at best. It's their first playoff game, so maybe some jitters, but they did not play that well. Lots to cleanup. Have to play better than this going forward.

Keldon needs to play better. I didn't have a lot of trust heading into the playoffs for him and sadly he didn't deliver in this first game. He must play better. The Spurs will NEED him to play better. He can't be 6th man of the year and play like 12th man in the playoffs. That is not going to cut it. I really don't want to put more pressure on him, but he just has to be better than what he showed in game 1. That was end of bench role player stuff. It won't be good enough going forward.

Happy that Devin stepped up as I do believe in him in higher pressure, higher stakes games.

Very disappointed in Carter's stint out there. You can't be picking up three fouls when you're given a chance to earn playoff minutes. Terrible showing from CB because the team really needs him to supplant HB in the lineup IMO.

D-Fox was more aggressive which I was happier to see. Picked his spots on when to attack and shoot the three. Still would like a little more aggression from him.

Steph wasn't great. He needs to be sharper, and he has to hit shots - he has to hit those open shots or at least try and incorporate that midrange shot again.

Dylan didn't play that well, but I think he'll bounce back. He's also got to take and make open shots going forward.

Edit:
Very solid game from Luke too.

Not sure what that asshole T-Mac was on about. Seems really bitter. The refs have let a lot of physical play go on Victor all season. I don't give a shit if it's the playoffs or not where they generally call less fouls, but in Vic's case, they need to call more fouls that are committed on him. Fuck Tracy McGrady. I used to be a fan of his, but not anymore if he's calling for stuff like that. The guy was washed up at 29 which is crazy. I'm not interested in hearing anything about what he's got to say based on what little I heard of his NBC analysis. Manu was playing better at 40 than this guy was at 29. At least Vince played way longer and has been in a lot more playoff games. Carmelo doesn't provide great analysis either, but at least he's also played more playoff games and has been deep in the playoffs.
Can't have people injuring Vic with dirty reckless plays just because they can't compete/hang with him skill wise. It'll only hurt the NBA's product. Overall, it's better to have Victor playing in the playoffs than not for the league's popularity, money, ratings.

Two of CB's fouls were bullshit as well. He had two great defensive sequences in his brief stint, both involving Wemby that give me hope for him going forward in these playoffs tbh.

Felt like there was a lot of anger behind that dunk attempt tbh, otherwise he finishes it.
Yeah, I felt the same when he missed it. In the moment, I could see he was angry and was thinking that's exactly why he missed it. Not because of degree of difficulty or anything like that.

That's the thing, I also don't get why the Spurs get soft fouls called on them when they're on defense. They let other teams hack away, yet Spurs players aren't allowed to play as physical.
The fouls were cheap, but we still want CB to do whatever he can to stay on the court so that Mitch and the coaching staff can trust him with more minutes. If they call one cheap foul, he has to adjust and not give them a chance to call another one right away.

He probably expecting a sweep :st-lol:
Man, why would anyone want to play for or work for this guy.

Also, what incentive does Tiago have to coach well for this guy when he's likely getting let go at the end of the season. I'm assuming even if they want Tiago as their coach next season, would he accept that salary their owner is likely to offer? I know Tiago is going to want to coach his best (for himself, the team and future employer/s), but man, not much incentive to bust his ass for this guy and franchise if they screw him over just to hire a cheaper coach.

1 down. 15 more wins to go. Let’s gooooo!!

1st game is done over with. I hope the rest can now bounce back from their playoff jitters. This team can easily bury the Blazers 25pts.
I completely forgot to even consider the long layoff before game 1, that may have also played a part in the team's rhythm and form. Hopefully it was also due to that along with first game playoff jitters.
