Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 1: Spurs vs Blazers (0-0) (Sun 04/19/2026) [8:00 CDT]

It's also kinda cool that Pop is off duty for a Spurs playoffs. Let him sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor to this team as a spectator or no more than a casual consultant.

First PO I watched entirely and not just some resume in French tv was 98 first fuck the suns but also first fuck the jazz
Oh man, you missed the black and white TV on 15-20" screens, tape-delayed playoffs, Magic-Bird revivals, Dr J flying, Moses Malone's ground bound game, the first Twin Towers....what a difference a couple or more decades make.😉

The first few games here will be very telling. How the Blazers try to deal with Wemby and if their already sluggish offense can handle our top-tier D will be early indicators to watch.

- Wemby will be the X, Y and Z factors. As if by genius strategy, the Blazers haven't faced Wemby 3.0 this year. My guess is that he will cause them some real problems on both ends. Maybe to the degree that they never fully recover. That's my hot take #1.
- I'd expect the Blazers to go to zone D whenever Wemby sits and alternate schemes when he plays. Their size and versatility could cause some problems. Jrue will be his usual disruptive high-IQ self and will add years to the maturity of our backcourt.
- Matching up with Avdija will be an issue, no doubt. If we double him, Camara, Sharpe and even Scoot could cause some real damage.
- If the Spurs stay consistent as a high-level defensive rebounding team, that will negate much of Portland's success.
- If the Spurs run solid, efficient offensive sets and don't turn it over much, Blazers will struggle. Our offense has been better than their defense in the RS and our defense should punish their offense.
- Offensive rating: Spurs 4th Blazers 22nd
- Defensive rating: Spurs 3rd Blazers 12th
- Tiago vs Mitch is an interesting scenario of Spurs products facing each other in their first playoff series. The stability around Mitch gives him an advantage but Tiago is fighting for his job.
- If the Spurs keep their heads on straight and hold onto the leads they will have going into the 4th, we win in 5 or 6 max.
tbh I don't think Tiago is fighting for his job. I think he has it for at least next year regardless of what happens.

Tiago was pretty big on defense in 2014 in the playoffs vs Portland against Aldridge tbh and yet we swapped them out and got worse.

Aldridge's defense was as bad as Dirk's.

This looks awesome Best retro court in the NBA by a distance. Vintageness but without the garish touch of the 1990s.

Yeah can't get over how good the playoff fiesta colors look. It's like a snow cone stadium lol maybe it's modeled after one of Sochan's hairstyles. But seriously, those t-shirts are going to pop during the game. Hope everyone wears it.

Man, Pop looks rough :st-frown:
Looks pretty damn good for a guy who could have died. Strokes almost always hits one side hard. He’s moving around on his own, which is good. His first few public appearances, he was flanked by Timmy and Manu, a support system, of sorts,

Nah, their new owner is terrible. Tiago’s definitely getting fired this offseason.
Damn, their new owner has only had the team for like 3 weeks... is he that bad that his reputation precedes him?

His mobility and affect are much improved. Looked like an aide or physical therapist was trailing him with a cane, which would be appropriate, depending on his healthcare orders. He also didn't linger with Mitch and Sean, just let them get on with their responsibilities.
