Misc MISC Spurs 2025-26 Season Thread

for all those wondering why Mamu didn't return, Mitch said in his pregame interview they wanted to keep him, but Toronto laid out a better vision for him, i. e. promised him a bigger role.

Thanks for calling this out. Exactly what some of us have been saying. Mamu's gotta look out for Mamu, can't blame him.

100%. I will forever love him for providing me an epic spring break game against the knicks.

Happy for him. The Spurs choose Sochan over him, hard to blame them or him.

He was the more efficient productive player, but Sochan had the D + youth/upside/potential and more bonds/investment.

Too bad, with as mediocre as Unc has been this yr and with all the early injuries, Mamu could've carved out 20mpg here and given us a $3M stretch combo big for next yr whose actually playing some decent D this yr.

This got me thinking...Harrison Barnes now ranks 166 out of 186 qualifiers in rebounding.

Barnes rebounds at the same rate as Tre freaking Jones.
He's just ahead of Jalen Bronson and Isaiah Collier and he started 49 games for us at the 4.
He rebounds like a 6' PG, a/k/a 1/2 the rate of Champ and Mamu. Jesus.

Spurs retired too many jerseys tbh....

I think any other team would not retire AJ #6, Bowen #12, Elliot #32

Not sure about James Silas #13 and Johnny Moore #00 as I never watched them play

1/2/3/4/5 is a functional lineup too, with three guards, one forward, one center.

At one point I saw a lineup of 2, 3, 5, 7, 11. The first 5 prime numbers. An even more functional lineup with two guards, two forwards, one center.
So, did we also run the Fibonacci Series lineup (1, 2, 3, 5, 8) for a few minutes? Not a great lineup but still reasonable role-wise.

AJ's not in the same class as the others. Bowen was absolutely a defensive force, 8x straight All-D teams, 5 straight top-5 DPOY and was one of the top 3pt shooters in the NBA from '03 when he lead the league to retirement, being a very important piece to 3x championships. Many many many teams retire that dudes number- maybe everyone but the Lakers.

Elliot was an AS + obviously loved by the franchise and fanbase (as evidenced by him being our color guy) and hit the Memorial Day Miracle and had a career cut short by disease and he played most of his career with severe kidney disease (started in his 4th season) and got his freaking transplant (first player to play after transplant too) just a couple months after starting all 17 games and shooting 40% from deep in our first finals run. Dude helped us win our first 'ship while dying, he dies without that transplant. Elliotts # would get retired by lots of teams too.

AJ on the other hand was a journeyman that played like 600 of 1000 games here and was ok and bossed around Big Dave. It was always a huge mistake to retire his number. He wasn't good enough and he wasn't important enough.

I loved this stuff, so I looked it up...

1-2-3-4-5 lineup has played less than 1 minute together... (but more more than 0 minutes).. so no stats to report.

Prime lineup (2-3-5-7-11) is unstoppable (6 min played)!

Fibonacci Lineup (1-2-3-5-8) has yet to see the floor.
