Luke Kornet has been a pleasant and reliable surprise with his ability to complete alley-oop plays seeming to exceed the abilities of some Spurs bigs of arguably greater overall talent who preceded him. He has been great. But he has been outmuscled by Zach Edey—the guy who conventional wisdom said was too slow for the NBA—in their direct matchups that I have followed. I am a bit surprised that I have not seen anyone mention that Edey was available in the 2024 NBA draft when the Spurs took Dillingham and then immediately traded him away. Edey was selected by Memphis with the next pick at a time when the Spurs desperately needed another center and before Kornet was signed. Was passing on Edey a blunder or would he have not been a good fit for the Spurs? I guess it is water under the bridge and does not matter at this point.
