My problem with it is someone has to take a major back seat and then you're either paying 35% of your cap after giving away all your flexibility to someone who no longer plays like a franchise player offensively or you're making your GOAT candidate take a backseat to a less talented guy instead of developing him to carry the team. And this is an era where having young guys on rookie deals is a godsend for avoiding the aprons as long as possible. Plus Giannis is on the wrong side of 30 and not likely to age well given his style of play. My worst fear is a situation like Barkley + Olajuwon where they took turns 50/50 on the low block and both ended up worse players for it. Hate the idea of Wemby/Giannis possibly doing similar in the high post which is by far the best position for both to play out of. It's a lot of opportunity cost vs having three high end point guards. Maybe @KobesAchilles thinks Harper and Castle suck in which case I can see trading for Giannis but these two plus Fox have proved to be a matchup nightmare for OKC with both of the young guys far from their prime forms. The grass is so fucking green in San Antonio I'm not doing anything to break this team up.
I’m not a huge Castle fan tbh
I think him and Giannis pretty much bring the same issues offensively but Giannis is better so I’d rather have him

I’m not a fan of how this team is set up at an organizational level. I don’t think we’re ready to win anytime soon yet we made win now moves by getting Fox.

Spurs got Fox super cheap; it was an obvious trade to make for their 2027 first, the Chicago protected first, the 20131 Minnesota first, a couple of seconds, and a salary they desperately wanted to dump in Collins (as well as a now redundant Tre Jones). Not bad to get a top 35 player at age 27 for half of what the Knicks paid for Bridges because Fox and Klutch forced their way to San Antonio. Maybe you get your wish with how much Castle and Harper are struggling though. You get Giannis and you lose both of them eventually anyways since you're paying 95% of the cap to Giannis, Wemby, and Fox, so the Spurs can make a Giannis offer no one else can come close to. I personally see enormous downside to paying an aging and injury prone star 35% of the cap even if he's having a monster season right now and anticipate that he ages more like DRob or Shaq than Duncan. And especially bad if he still wants to be paid like Kobe.

I’m not complaining about getting Fox. It was a great trade for us. I really like him and having a veteran PG who is still in his prime is a huge gain for us as a team.

Really I’m just not sold on our shooting coach, our GM, and our head coach. Maybe I continue to be wrong but I just don’t see us organizationally as ready to be a true contender yet. I can totally see us losing first round ala Rockets last year.

I like Dylan Harper. More than I like Castle. But I’m pretty sure neither one is going to be a jumper anytime soon. I’m talking like 5 years

Well you might get your wish, sounds like the Bucks aren't going to be able to hold onto Giannis with the way he's flipping out on the team right now. But I have to imagine they'll hold out for Harper + Vassell + picks, with Sochan there for salary matching. Maybe you could switch Vassell out to Barnes and Carter Bryant plus another unprotected first or two but in that case Vassell would have to be salary dumped in 2027 years when Victor signs an extension. A Giannis trade puts the Spurs in a bad cap crunch in 2027 with their picks gone, though maybe they'd get a couple back salary dumping Castle for 2028 (an also necessary move after trading for Giannis). Gonna be hard to put a winning team around Victor / Giannis / Fox with only around ~30% of the cap to fill roster spots 4-12 and avoid the aprons, as first apron is 126.7% of the cap and the big three costs a little more than 95% of the cap since they're getting 8% raises yearly while the cap goes up 7% yearly.

Fox and Sochan for Curry

Harper, Barnes, Olynyk, and picks for Giannis

Curry/Vassell/Champagnie/Giannis/Wemby with Castle/Waters/Keldon/Kornet off the bench

The failure of a grown man to develop a skill like shooting is the grown man’s failure to own - not the shooting coach.

Devin is a good shooter because he worked on it his whole life and he has natural abilities. Same with Vic and (sometimes) Barnes. Jeremy is a bad shooter because he very clearly did not work on it his whole life and lacks natural ability. Castle looks like a guy who has definitely worked on it his whole life but seems to lack natural ability. All kinds of things going on here.

A shooting coach can help keep the team as a whole maintain discipline and help individuals with some degree of instruction. But they don’t turn lemons into lemonade and they don’t interfere with dead eyes.

Not asking because I think there is a remote chance of this happening... but just out of curiosity...

Can anyone think of an example in any sport with a team near the top of the standings has completely blown up their team like this?

Anyone know if a SPURS/DAL/MILWAUKEE trade could be possible with AD going to Milwaukee? It may be impossible but I'm too lazy to check

God damn, that team would win this year and next before imploding tbh.

Lakers traded Shaq coming off a finals trip.

But no i dont think its precedented at all

well my meme trade scenario doesnt work because fox doesnt make enough money this season. need to add another piece to GSW

Giannis just hurt himself on a non-contact injury...

Giannis walking very gingerly to the locker room... confirming all the reasons some people aren't interested in a trade for him...

He walked back to the bench to watch the rest of the game... but looks like he might miss some extended time.

Looks like all those other trades can go ahead and go through now.

If you thought Mitch Johnson was bad at drawing up plays out of a timeout... David Adelman just sent the Nuggets out to dribble the ball and do nothing for 12 seconds and then burn another timeout... lol

We can probably kiss our hopes of the Bucks knocking the Hawks out of the play-in goodbye as well... we're all Charlotte Hornets fans now.

Honestly, the New York Knicks should be on the phone with the Milwaukee Bucks daily trying to figure out some way to get that trade done.

How much (if at all) does this injury diminish the Bucks' asking price?

It definitely does because it keeps happening, and if you look at his history over the last several years, he is breaking down. He is on that injury report even when he plays. Constantly questionable with some sort of leg issue.
