I'd still go do it for Lauri. Even if the Spurs had to include one ore two additional picks or swaps. When his contrac becomes problematic you can move Fox and/or Devin. By then you hope/expect Castle&Harper to be ready to be the #1 and #2 guards.
I've said it before, I'm a big fan of Jules and I think a Harper, Castle, Champagnie, Markkanen, Wemby starting 5 would work really well. Keldon, Kornet and Bryant to round up the top 8 players. Add in a few projects like DJG, Vets/Ring chasers and specialists like Waters and the roster is complete.

Exactly. Danny will be precious about Lauri to the point he’ll end up selling at a loss in a few year once Lauri washes up.

Lauri is closer to TM3/Deni status than he is to bonafide star status tbh, and should be valued accordingly.
Lauri is like Fox -- wildly overpaid. Both are good players, but that max or near max (whatever LM makes) is just bonkers. We're strung up on that Fox deal and it's the reason why no one is looking at Markannen anymore.

I don't think we'll easily move Fox in a year or two. We'll have to move him for a worse contract or put assets with him.

Not gonna work that way. You bring in Lauri you get to keep only one of Fox / Castle / Harper and stay out of the aprons.

God, your hatred of him is way too strong.
Sunk fallacy

He thinks by being wrong about Fox that Spurstalk (it’s him vs everybody according to his mind) will shame him for it

But the truth is, everybody here has probably forgotten about it. They don’t care that you were wrong back then or care to bring it up.

Instead you insist to triple down. For what? For nothing.

Where did I say I hated him? I said he's wildly overpaid, which is 100% true. And that wildly overpaid players are not getting moved, which appears to be true.

So, amend your reply or what?

I'm not wrong about Fox. He's absolutely not a max player and I've said that from the start, and that his contract would cause us massive problems, and it probably will. If he plays up to his contract, I'll be overjoyed. But last game he got wrecked by Keyonte George who makes a fraction of what he does. So far, he's been fine, but not max contract fine.

This is a horrible take.

His numbers are fine while having more offensive help than his previous team.

He’s showing he can defer being the primary ball handler while being perfectly comfortable putting the team first over himself.

Zero off court issues. No character flaws.

He’s not a top defender but he’s not a liability and has shown the same ability to jump passes for steals.

We’re a top 5 team.

As much as we’d like to see more of it he’s shown that he can still take over the game and particularly 4th quarter.

Can’t say what happens two years from now but the idea that he’s a negative asset trade that requires us to prop up his value with other assets is ridiculous.

Do not engage.
His take when the trade happened was that Fox is a traffic cone midget on defense, horrible shooter and a scorer that doesn't care about how the team does.

Lauri remains a picture perfect PF for what we need. 3pt shooting and rebounding with good enough defense. with that said, the acquisition cost would be exorbitant, and we'd basically need to move one of Fox/Lauri after a couple of seasons

Fox: 31 Points

Keyonte George 23 Points

Fox got somehow wrecked by Keyonte George :st-lmao:

He plays well so he deserved a big contract but I agree that 51-55-59-63 million is a lot, something like 41-45-50-53 million would have been more reasonable in my opinion while still being more than what he was making. I guess that the Spurs had to put the money on the table for him to come so they did.

As far as I can tell, there is only one veteran on his third or successive contract in The Ringer Top 35 players in the league who isn't on a max deal: Jalen Brunson. After that point you start to see a few guys who aren't on max deals, but there are still a lot of maxes on the list after that as well.

At that point, it's just a matter of whether or not you think Fox is a Top 30-40 player, because that's generally the market value of what these guys get paid. The Ringer (#33), Bleacher Report (#36), SI (#30), ESPN (#35), CBS (#31), ClutchPoints (#29), HoopsHype (#26) and even the Locked On Podcast Network (#33) all seem to think he is. There are undoubtably some people who think he isn't... maybe they should start a Substack and get paid for their basketball opinions.

Wow. That sucks for Giannis and the Bucks, and also for the Spurs as Atlanta has an easier path now :(.
He’s going to get traded this summer for sure. And this is terrible for Milwaukee because now the price is going to plummet. All the teams calling up are going to be citing the injury issues when Milwaukee’s talking about draft picks and players.

Maybe for a Lauri level star, but for a Giannis level star. Those guys get paid regardless (see KD)

Giannis will never be reliably healthy again. Despite his age I would be fine sending Harper off for him. Because he’s a force of nature.

But he’s broken, like kawaii has been and like Jimmy has been and Embiid and Davis and countless others who hit the rubicon and will just never have normal bodies again.

It’s surprising with him. He looks like such a tank and isn’t that old. But I wonder if his frame wasn’t meant to carry that much muscle and do this level of activity. And his usage has always been high. Just a worn out dude at this point. Nobody should be sending a blue chipper the other way for him.
Giannis to Lakers for Austin Reeves. Guaranteed.

Durant is not on a max anymore

and Brunson took the max, he just could have gotten a lot more by waiting a year

With Giannis' body seemingly breaking down, it is fair to say that the Bucks have missed their window at getting maximum return for him in what's essentially been a delayed, waiting-to-happen divorce between the two for nearly a year now. I somewhat understand the demurrals from Milwaukee standpoint, but when the writing is so clear on the wall and when no hail-mary transaction is available anymore, it is was maybe time to bite bullet and think about the franchise future. A decent haul of even medium tier picks (8-14) & young prospect(s) is enough to reboot and be back soon in the mix in the East , but that's not as guaranteed to be available anymore as much as a host of pupu platters compromised of the likes Tyler Herro, Jovic , KAT and a bunch of mid 20s picks.

Giannis' heath is, unmistakably, a thing now factoring into his prospective trade value..For the Spurs, it simply becomes a double NO.

Honestly, I'm kind of glad is playing out this way and not because I hate Giannis or the Bucks. Quite the contrary... Giannis brought those fans a chip, and we all know how precious those are to small market teams. I'd like to see him retire a Buck, and if I were a Bucks fan I'd be happy to see it too even if it meant we were mid. I would not have wanted to trade Timmy in his last two years just to reload and extend the window. All eras eventually come to an end, I'll be happy to see the small market hero be a career 1-team guy.

With that said, I also love chaos and major trades that shake up the league... so I've got my popcorn out either way :st-lol:

This might be one of the wildest trade deadlines in years. Supposedly multiple trades queued up, just waiting for that Freak domino to fall,or not.

It's either going to be wild (I hope so!) or reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally boring. If Trae Young ends up being the headliner, I want a refund

Brian Wright already has a couple of deals lined up, tbh.
We're getting 3 SRPs we can sell later and a 2032 swap.
