NBA Fixing the NBA

If the bottom teams end up being those teams, the player's won't have much of a choice, but to choose one of them.
That wasn’t what Rich Paul said, nor what I posted. He wants to let the kids just pick their teams, period. That would be a fucking disaster.

Rich Paul says let the top draftees choose the team they go to if you want to fix tanking:

Start at 9:45.
:st-downspin:Of course he does.

I'm sure so many top talents are gonna be like "I'm taking my talents to Charlotte, North Carolina!"

I get that, but I put my twist on it and I think it's cool.

In the 80s and early 90s, players barely made money, the travel was not all that great, but they played every game, unless legitimately injured. They gave great effort. They took the game and their skills personally. The physicality was real.

These guys today are overpaid, extremely pampered, they travel, they carry, theory, they sit out, they lack fundamentals, they skip Defense and just chuck 3s on offense. This is all Silver's fault.

The second angular stone that propels the NBA to take hands on the matter is (Silver you spineless, stupid fuck!!) gambling. There is simply too much at stake in terms of "preserving integrity" with so much money on the line each night, you just can't have teams actively throwing games. We used to discuss "what is actually tanking" and this season showed why: the good tank is FO-moves-driven, the bad tank is coach-player driven. There is a big difference (once again, props to the Spurs FO playing their hand perfectly - trading out Dejounte, DWhite, and bottoming out "naturally", as opposed to the Jazz sitting Lauri in the 4th Q of close games).

:st-wakeup:

Crazy that we had people in the other thread calling the situation a non-issue, tbh. Change is coming.

A fool and his money are soon parted.
I don't like that classic saying here, because the NBA is fully aware that a significant portion of its viewer base is underage, yet they continue to aggressively push gambling ads, line updates during games, betting market predictions etc. with no regards for them.

It's exactly the reason why this shit was banned from the general public in the first place, like smoking ads. Can't have the youth be swayed by that "earn a quick $50 by betting the over NOW !!!" stuff. It's fucked up, especially with every single teen owning a mobile phone that can download Kalshi or whatever in two seconds.

Now the adult degenerates, sure, but the problem is bigger.

The fact that Adam Silver has been so vocal about it means you are probably right, but it's really sad if it is because gambling companies are pissed off about it. Silver says it's about the "integrity of the game" while also appeasing the forces that are directly destroying it.

lol Aldridge and every other NBA shill writing articles about removing the NBA draft all together, perfectly in sync. fuck these people

NBA is the easiest target for gambling companies.
Way more points scored and statistical categories to bet on than other sports.
Games every night, with a lot of margin for error for the teams throughout the regular season, meaning that the best teams often aren't fully engaged.
It's so easy for players to make lots of money doing illegal shit for gambling companies, the dumbest ones like Rozier get caught.

Shit, I should have guessed it's gambling companies that are forcing the tanking thing to be an issue. Holy shit are they terrible for the game. Never should have been invited into the house, and now we'll never get them out. Thanks, Adam Silver!

Its going to be a lot harder now to tell if a player just had a "off night" or that fluke call from the ref was organic. To me the integrity of the game will always be, if it wasn't already, in question now.

People think that Adam is a dictator, and makes all of the decisions.

Silver works for the owners. They make the decisions.

I actually love footy, but the idea that letting new players choose their teams would work because "it works there" is absolutely outrageous. There is so little parity in those leagues (prem being the exception to some extent), and it would be a disaster here, Lakers/Heat/NYK/etc would just get everybody. The culture has worked there and people kind of accept that's the way of life, but it would destroy the NBA.

The saddest thing for me is seeing legends like Inside the NBA guys promoting gambling in the studio, it's not like they need that extra money.

I would guess they don’t get an extra dime. Those outfits are NBA sponsors, and that’s part of the script.

Even funnier is that I could easily see a situation where someone like Barkley goes on some rant about how the Gambling companies are ruining the game, and then they immediately cut to some "Kenny Pick's Sponsored by DraftKings" or some bullshit :st-lol:

i could see a idea that every team has universities they call farm teams and could claim a draftee before the draft. Then players can choose their UNI to influence their team choices. would have to be balanced to avoid uneven power but would be kind of cool to see regional teams rather than tanking determining quality.

Yup. This would decimate small markets. Media barely likes us after lottery luck, I bet they wish Wemby, Duncan, Robinson, ginobili, Parker were all in LA/NY/Miami

Then why have a commissioner? No, he has a lot of power, as do all pro sports commissioners. He's just a weak pissant.

Not only are you damn right - it seems to be an open secret that players don't even care to hide that much:

Jokic: "You know why Luka follows everything? Because he bets on everything"

Can't believe top players are saying shit like this so lightly, even as a """joke""". It's a matter of time before a big fish is caught. Jontay Porter was the tip of the iceberg
