Player De'Aaron Fox Expected To Miss The Start Of The Regular Season

I think he’s out the first couple of games, too. I remember reading his timeline after his surgery, and it was early November.
always funny that none of y'all actually watch interviews.

Fox is not missing training camp. He won't be playing games in preseason, but he thinks he's ready so he is participating in training camp.

Harper said he might actually play some games in preseason, which means he will also be participating in training camp and will be ready by the start of the season.

Interesting that Harper said he couldn’t dribble the ball yet, and today starts training camp.

Players always think they’re ready to go. You shouldn’t use that as a measure of when you will actually see them on the court. I mean, we’re like 3 weeks from real games, and Harper can’t dribble with his dominant hand.

Im going by what he said - and he said he is ready and "he believes" he is ready to start the first game - but will probably be held out the first game or two -
but he kept basically implying its not his decision to be held out the first game or two...

I've heard in multiple places Nov 1st is the target date for Fox to return. I keep thinking of Tatum and Halliburton, so err on the side of caution.

In the grand scheme of things, sitting fox for the first week or two to reduce likelihood of a lingering or more serious injury seems fine to me. It just sucks because everyone is ready to see the whole roster in action but otherwise no real downside other than taking a little longer to gel
it sucks because teams dont really hold many full scale practices during the season. its some film stuff and shootarounds with maybe some light action... but camp is the time for the guys to play with each other outside of live games. this was a time for the guys to really get to learn each other's tendencies, preferences, etc.

Fox and Wemby having camp together would have helped us hit the ground running

I bet this guy is itching to get out there. He’s gotta keep the young bucks from taking his job!

Next Thursday Oct 30th gonna be the debut, a witch in my dreams told me, so book it. She also said we'd be 4-0 by then and Wemby will be averaging 35 & 12

Champ didn't do much to scare him yesterday.
I do believe in Julian's shooting, but it doesn't seem he can do too much more than catch and shoot 3s. What do you guys think? Is he capable of more on offense? I feel Carter Bryant can do more on offense. If he could get a consistent shot, I think he can already do more.

How do you guys rate his defense?

I think that's why having guys like D-Fox, Stephon, and Dylan is way more advantageous in today's NBA.

Right now I think you keep it the way it is. Champ is there solely as a catch and shoot guy who plays hard on defense. We don’t need anything else from him other than to be a threat. Eventually he would have to hit like 5 for 7 to keep the defense honest but we aren’t there yet.

And I think it’s very important to keep Carter Bryant playing 15 mpg in the beginning of the season. He looks completely lost at times but you can see the potential and athleticism and him playing against actual NBA players is imo better for him than being the MAN in Austin and then having to readjust his game again on the main roster.

The rotations right now include guys who probably won’t get much run when we have a healthy roster.
CB and Jordan M will likely lose all or most of their minutes once Sochan and Fox are back.
I’m very excited about Bryant’s potential but he is so raw right now. The question is finding the best path to developing him into the elite 3D guy he can be? I think a lot of Austin time and some occasional minutes with the big club is a good mix.

As far as CB goes, if he was a guard you put him in Austin and check in on him next summer. If he’s a plug and play 3&D, it might make more sense to feed him 5-10 minutes a night of action while he practices and bonds with the rotation guys, learning how they play and how he can work off of them.

And then when Jeremy gets injured again, you give him a little more opportunity to see where he is. And then hopefully you’re looking at a pretty good backup 4 by April after Jeremy’s shipped out for a vet wing.

You'll notice Champ didn't get a lot of clean looks against Dallas because they were keeping a defender near him. If that's all he does, he's doing his job because that opens up the paint for Wemby and co.

I should have said, I didn't mean start Carter now or anything, I was just saying, I think he can already do more on offense (like has a more varied offense), but he's not ready on the defensive end. I was also asking, do you think Julian's defense is good enough to keep starting? That's the main point for me. I think his shooting is good enough. I'm OK with continuing to start him as long as his defense is good enough to help the other starters out.

This. For the first time in a long time our role players actually played within their roles. It was really nice to see guys not forcing things or playing hero ball. Stay in your lane should be the theme of this season.

no formal updates from the team, but there are some clips of him practicing this morning in the pelicans arena, along with sochan, olynyk, and the deep bench/2-way guys (looks like Fox, Minix, Ingram, Olynyk vs DJG, Carter Bryant, Sochan, Biyombo)

contrary to finger's tweet these are 4 on 4, not 5 on 5. none of this really seems to be full speed though, so i dont think this really answers just how close he is

ESPN has estimates on when they might return and it looks fairly accurate. I can see a couple coming back for next game, then Fox and everyone's favorite coming back end of month/beginning of next month.

probably chatgpt estimates tbh

but iirc when he had his media day interview a few weeks ago they did say they were targeting return when november hits, so that tracks

I think it's ok he waits a bit. The delay at least makes me wonder if Brian Wright is is trying to get his eyes on how Castle and Harper (and the team)look in Fox's absence.

I don't think he's making any trades at all. But I'm ok if other teams see all these point guards and consider trying to trade with us, I guess.

Jared Weiss mentioned that Fox could return against Phoenix IIRC
that would fall in line with the ESPN estimate thingy on November 2, and tracks with Fox's earliest comments that they are targeting November

Dallas covered him up and he only shot 2 threes. This helps open the floor for other.
The floor would still get spaced with Fox. The one who will throw off spacing if inserted into the starting lineup is Temu Rodman.
