Atlanta is going to have like $40M in cap space this off season after getting rid of Trae’s contract.

Their main weakness is the Center position but if I’m the Hawks I wouldn’t be go after AD mostly because of that contract and health issues.

Im not a cap expert so I wonder if the Thunder can afford to pick up the Hartenstein team option at $28.5M. If they do their salaries are projected to be over $245M which is wild.

Hartenstein would be perfect for the Hawks.

Failing that, they could throw a bag at RFA’s like Jalen Duren, Mark Williams, Walker Kessler.

Or go with a Center by committee approach and keep Okongwu (more of a F/C) and sign a C like Mitchell Robinson or Robert Williams.

They could also draft a C like Quaintance or Aday Mara.

Lots of options better than the AD option.

Who do the Lakers need to add if it's a package around Austin Reaves? I wonder if Dallas would be interested in Reaves? Lakers need defense and I don't think Reaves is someone that can keep playing with Luka and Lebron (unless they believe they can build around Luka and Austin long term?). Yeah, no idea how the Lakers would be able to get him back.
I think i'd have to be Reaves + Hachi + Vincent + Kleber
But I don't think the Lakers could lose Hachi and Reaves and still make the PO, have to fight for PI and I think Reaves is probably more valuable than AD today given the injury risk/surgery (out til POs per Shams).

Like you said, LA doesn't have what it takes to make it work. GS I just dont see. If AD were healthy I could see it, but i don't see them making the move hoping they could build some sort of chemistry on the fly in the post season. The same stands to reason for any playoff team.

The type of team that might make this trade is one focused on building something next season because they can get him cheap now.
I agree with you. There are just so few potential landing spots imo. GSW is clearly very desperate + needs to shed Kuminga, but trading Green seems extremely unlikely.
It will take a crazy desperate team, maybe thats the Hawks, I think most likely its no one in the PO hunt.
Most likely no one, but if Wiz are just taking on bad contracts, Middleton + Bran + Whitmore + Gil works to clear the Mavs books and saves them almost $10M (prorated). AD + Trae + Sarr could be a force (/jk)

Yeah, their GM has been very smart this yr, better options, seriously doubt it.
That said, a healthy AD on that team and they may be a real contender next yr. But ADs been healthy 1.5 of the past 8 yrs. I hope they do it.

Another Sophie's Choice game, ATL @ LAL. A rare occasion I might actually prefer a Lakers win.

Seen some speculation online that the Clippers could be a Davis destination.

In all honesty the Hawks should tank with their own pick and trade us Okongwu for this years swap getting extinguished. The combined odds of getting a top four pick with their choice of the Pel or Bucks pick a long with their own picks would be around 65% with some tanking.

Go Lakers
Collins + Bogdanovic + Dunn works in trade machine, but that's a terrible deal for the Mavs. Collins + Zubac works in trade machine, but adds $10M to Clips and that doesn't look to make the Clips better.

If the Hawks trade for an injured AD without control of their own pick this season they're dumber than I thought. With a bit of tanking the Hawks pick has about 11.7% chance at hitting top 4.

Whether they control their pick this year makes no difference. If they think AD helps make them a contender next year (I certainly don't) they shpuld do it. They already don't have their pick so its a sunk cost. They can decide to do their best to hurt the pick we own or focus on making them better next year.... its a pretty easy call IF ypu believe in AD...which they seem to for some reason..

No team makes moves in a vacuum. With AD missing most if not the entire rest of the season, this season would be a lost cause in terms of competitiveness. Being able to tank, even at the cost of Okongwu (who AD would replace next season), to get another high pick in addition to the Pelicans pick, dovetails with that.

The Hawks just got Luka’d in that second quarter going down 20+. Lakers went up 30 at one point in the third.

From pick stand point it's irrelevant. Whether spurs pick 1 or 29 is irrelevant to them. Swap is already done. Spurs getting pick 1 don't make them worse. They care about Cavs pick. So they would want Cavs to lose more.

From competition standpoint it depends on their confidence. If they end up at 10th seed or 13th is also kinda irrelevant. So it's their confidence to make playoff that matters.

But they maybe able to get AD for cheap. They get him and just move on for next year

Like I said before, if they want AD they have to trade for him now. They have the expirings to match, they won't have those in the offseason.

Does anyone really think Atlanta is the team interested in trading for AD? If not who could it be.... I just dont see anyone else...
Toronto, who's offer is reportedly Barrett, Poeltl and a first.

If I'm Dallas I don't make that deal over the Atlanta one because I'd want to tank in the last year that I control my pick for some time.

Hope you're right. 11% chance at a top four pick in a stacked draft class. Knowing the Spurs their numbers will get drawn.

The thing is, they have a great pick already from the Pels, and they cut to the front of the AD trade line, and probably get a discount price. They’re not going anywhere, even if they defy the odds, and play in this year.

We could wind up with

a soft tanked. ATL swap this year
Tingus in a buyout
A soft tanked ATL pick next year when Day to Davis gets injured.

Knowing how much the lottery god love the Spurs they'll probably get a top four pick with a soft tanked ATL pick. Half ways expect it to happen.
