Hawks up 20 now midway through the 2nd Quarter. Porzingis is such a difference-maker when he plays. That's why I was hoping he'd coast and take as much time as possible to return.

MIN looking like complete ass. Deficit now 21.

Lots of games left to play
Obviously, but Timberwolves are just too inconsistent for the regular season grind because of their lack of legit point guards.
Nuggets lost Jokic and will drop a lot of games.
Lakers are garbage.

If we continue playing close to current level, I don't think those teams will be able to keep up with us.

Sounds like it's all going to be your fault if we don't finish 2nd :st-lol:

Porzingis has the 4th best EPM in the league right now (slightly higher than Wemby). He's having a dominant season.

The Hawks are in an untenable position. They want to improve, so they sit Trae, but by doing that, they’re tanking his value. I think they just have to cut bait, and trade him for a combination of some ending contracts, rotation players, and filler, but maybe a couple of seconds.

I still think a Trae for LaMelo makes the most sense IF Charlotte is ready to move on. Not that Trae necessarily promotes more winning, but I'd probably rather have him develop the Kneuppel-Miller-Kalkbrenner core and figure out the long term solution at PG next year when Trae is an expiring (if memory serves); and I would probably try to negotiate Trae down from Giddey's deal. The Hawks would be taking on Ball's availability issues and 3.5 years of a salary that eats 25% of the cap, so maybe they get an extra asset too. If healthy, the Hawks could throw an impressive array of 6'6 - 6'9" players on the court - a League Pass darling.

Realistic Trae teams (IMO), none of whom I think will be lining up to pay very high value

TOR
CHI
MIL
HOU
MIN
SAC

Here are trades that work in the trade machine for each team, with what I perceive to be fair value. The question becomes... do these trades make ATL better? Do they make the acquiring team better?

Toronto
  • Raptors receive Trae Young and Luke Kennard
  • Hawks receive Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett
  • Comment: I think TOR likely needs to add a pick, not necessarily because they are getting the better players but because of Quickley and Barrett's money
Chicago
  • Bulls receive Trae Young
  • Hawks receive Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter and Coby White
  • Comment: I don't think any picks would need to be attached here. Chicago does this because Trae helps them achieve their franchise goal of being in the play-in every year. Atlanta does this as all of these are expiring deals, and it puts them in a nice position to resign White using his bird rights or get a decent return with a S&T in the offseason
Milwaukee
  • Bucks acquire Trae Young and Asa Newell
  • Hawks acquire Myles Turner, Kyle Kuzma and Ryan Rollins
  • Comment: Both teams only do this if they are stupid. We can keep this legal if we remove Newell and Rollins from the equation but from my vantage point they are the only thing that makes this interesting. It would be hilarious if MIL made some kind of move like this to try to appease Giannis only for Giannis to realize Trae sucks and then demand out. I didn't really think about the picks because of how stupid this would be to begin with. Really getting Trae to MIL would need to be a 3-team deal most likely
HOU
  • Rockets receive: Trae Young
  • Hawks receive: Fred VanVleet, Dorian Finney-Smith, Tari Eason and Aaron Holiday
  • Comment: It's actually a lot harder to make a deal work than I thought. FVV and Aaron Holiday can veto the trade. As a Spurs fan I hope HOU does this... idk about picks, just seems so stupid for the Rockets
MIN
  • Wolves receive: Trae Young
  • Hawks receive: Julius Randle, Naz Reid
  • Comment: Everyone is always trying to trade Julius Randle but it seems like the Wolves like him. I think the Hawks would have to add picks here, even though they're taking on a lot of money that I wouldn't want to. I don't see how this makes the Wolves better
SAC
  • Kings acquire: Trae Young
  • Hawks acquire: Zach LaVine
  • Comment: Kings include some picks, because of course they do. This makes sense for SAC because BEAM TEAM BABY. Would be the kind of move that could solidify SAC as a fringe play-in team, which kind of like Chicago seems like a space they're happy with. Gives the kings another guy from the 2018 NBA draft who was stupidly taken instead of Luka. Kings will then just need to acquire Deandre Ayton to finish the set. I don't know what the Hawks would do with Lavine. They could also do Sabonis and build around Maxime Reynaud but I don't know how that helps the Hawks either. Could also do Demar and Malik Monk? Probably needs to be a 3-team deal, but IMO SAC is the team that would be best for Trae Young.
