ATL’s Pelicans pick is going to be the #1 pick. Book it.

I’m not even that concerned about that tbh.. rather Peterson or Dybansta goes East. Rookies rarely impact winning their first year even the special ones. Of course id rather another East team gets them but yea.

Atlanta gets into their soft rebuild faster. Trae wasn't doing anything for them. Should have moved on him a few years ago, but it is what it is. I'm not sure why they'd continue going after AD, but that's on them if they want.

That's just it...he wasn't walking...he was opting in because he couldn't get that money anywhere else this summer..

I’d rather have him opt in and then shop him later than give him up for McCollum and kispert.

Unless they are just pacing the way for Davis

I think Atlanta is better after this trade.
I like Trae as an offensive engine but he’s been replaced in that role and he doesn’t bring anything else at all.
CJ can get buckets for them without dominating the ball

Agree.

McCollum can play off-ball and not be ball-dominant, giving JJ more reps. He's a much better shooter than Trae, who wasn't really that great. And they get another shooter in Kispert. They're a better balanced team this season.

Interestingly- I think the opposite - Atlanta didn't have to give up a pick to unload a year and a half of Trae Young's contract and acquire a potentially useful youngish role player in Kispert.

I still don't see this on the Wiz side- However they are 2nd to last in attendance (Atlanta is 3rd from last- two cities with a lot of people from elsewhere) and may be trying to get butts in the seats.
That said Trae's contract isn't going hurt the Wiz much.

It actually makes perfect sense for the Wizards.

A roster full of scorers and a big man that needs a PNR parnter.
Trae has many flaws, but he's elite at running the team and getting everyone involved.

Sarr is their franchise player and he'll be the biggest benefactor of this trade. I expect him to be the best big in the East in no time.

Trae is the only non-rookie contract they have after this trade, they have to pay someone. He'll decline the option and either get a 3 year max or a bit cheaper, but longer deal.
Perfect to bridge the gap between them being one of the worst teams in the league and a solid playoff team.
Then when they're ready to contend, they'll move on from him.
They just need to have some lottery luck and get one of those wings in this draft and they're good to go.

Yup. His contract for 26-27 is right around $49M. After seeing the trade return, he would probably get that $49M spread over 3 years on the open market. Nobody wanted a shrimp inefficient chucker who played no D. Atlanta was better without him.

They can be traded individually now, but neither can be combined/repackaged for two months, which is after the deadline. They will need to involve a third team.

Negotations for what or who?
NOLA doesn't really have much use for those Hawks picks even if they had them.
The only way they would is if Hawks trade for AD and he goes down with a season ending injury next season, which I guess isn't that unlikely.
But '25 pick is gone, no matter what.

yeah the Hawks would most likely not trade it back to NOLA unless they free fall, but who knows. Dumars ain't the smartest GM.
